(Fred's wife Mary would pass on many years later on 7-12-1942.) Section 039 Lot 2. [Researcher note: Fred's obituary says his mother's maiden name was Dixon; however, her Ontario marriage records list the name as "Nixon".

Darland. Isaac or "Ike" was married to Sarah Howse in 1871. After Sarah's death in 1882, he married Lida (or Lydia) M. Kurtz in June 1884, who passed away in 1899. Isaac was appointed Postmaster in Goldendale in 1893 by President Cleveland. Isaac died on March 17, 1912 at his brother's farm on Spring Creek (near Goldendale).

He passed away on January 19, 1893 at the age of 4 months, 4 days. [Researcher Note: The history of Isaac Darland (An Illustrated History of Klickitat, Yakima and Kittitas Counties) cited his first wife Sarah as dying in 1892, leaving four children: Arminta, Merton, Earl and L.C. It cited that Isaac married his second wife, Lida in June 1894. However, there is not only a gravestone for John, but in addition, John's death is etched into Lida's gravestone, with the clear initials of his parents as I.C. and L.M. Darland and the death date of January 1893. The children that Lida is cited as giving birth to were: Bessie M. and Bertie C. Therefore, the information and the dates do not match up, but I am convinced that John was the son of Isaac and Lida.]

Drury Missing In Action In Germany Dec. 14 (column 6) A telegram from the war department was received by his parents, Hazel Mae [Ingraham] and John R. Drury. Pfc. Drury had gone overseas in August, first going to England and later to Belgium. He had been in Germany at the front for three weeks before being declared missing...He was with the 310th infantry..." John P. Drury is Prisoner of War (column 2). After being a prisoner of war for nearly six months Drury Home from German P.W. Camp (column 5). John Drury never recovered from the trauma of war and suffering beatings and starvation as a prisoner of war: WWII POW Shoots Self. John had gone to war as a very young man, and as the newspaper report of his death stated: "As surely as if his German Captors had killed him, John T. Drury, 30, of Goldendale was found dead with a bullet in his forehead." The war may have ended, but for John it never ended. Legion

Dustin, Hiram	09-24-1846 05-29-1916	Obit Link Hiram Dustin was born September 24, 1846 in Ohio. His father's name was Dudley Dustin. The Hiram family came west to Hillsboro, Oregon in 1852. Hiram studied law in Portland, and opened his law office in Goldendale in 1878. In 1886, as the district prosecutor, Mr. Dustin prosecuted the Timmerman murder case, and the only official execution in Klickitat county took place as a result of his prosecutorial efforts. Hiram passed away on May 29, 1916 in Prosser, Washington at the age of 69. Block Section 037 Lot 1.

Block Section 037 Lot 1 [Researcher Note: On several censuses, Rachel's birth place is listed as Iowa; however, other reports place her birth in Ohio. I believe her actual date of death is September 30, 1893. In An illustrated history of Klickitat, Yakima and Kittitas Counties, there is a brief description of the Rachel and Hiram Dustin family:] "Sheriff Dilley was united in marriage to Miss Ora M. Dustin. of Goldendale, in that town in 1896. She is the daughter of Hiram and Rachel (Smith) Dustin. Mr. Dustin immigrated to the Northwest from his native state, Iowa, in the fifties, and is now engaged in the practice of law at Goldendale. Mrs. Dustin was born in Ohio and was married to Mr. Dustin at the age of eighteen. Her parents were pioneers of The Dalles. Mrs. Dustin passed out of life's portal while a resident of Klickitat county in 1893. In Washington county, Oregon, Mrs. Dilley was born in 1875, and two years later came with her parents to Klickitat county, where she received her education..."
