Dr. Fredric Alan HARRIS | Neurophysiologist, age 49, died July 25, 1988 of acute leukemia. He was on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine. He received his BS in biology from Northwestern in 1960, attended Harvard Medical School and received his Ph.D. in physiology from the U. of W. in 1967. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, NSF Summer Research Fellow and a Nominee for the Porter Fellowship of the American Physiological Society: He was a member of the American Physiological Society, Biomedical Engineering Society, Society for Neuroscience, American Institute of Biological Sciences, European Neuroscience Society, Association for Advancement of Medical instrumentation, Society for Contemporary Ophthalmology, Biofeedback Society of America and an associate member of the Royal Society of Medicine (London). He was a member of the American Society of Appraisers and the Washington Athletic Club. He was the inventor of a series of "artificial sense organs" and a dental head stabilizer for cerebral palsied children. He was the author of numerous journal articles and medical textbook chapters dealing with neurophysiology and biophysics, physical and occupational therapy, rehabilitation medicine and biofeedback. He was a professional musician and author of a text on the life and music of Bud Powell. He was a professional photographer and author of numerous publications dealing with the engraving techniques used on antique firearms. He developed an authentication service based on photomicography, under the name MAGNI-SCAN. (Reg.) He was an art collector, avid boater and world traveler. He is described by friends and acquaintances as a true Renaissance man. During his final year, while undergoing treatment, he completed the manuscript for his book on the origin of American Firearms Engraving Motifs, At his request, there will be no services following cremation. He is survived by his wife and friend, Barbara Seattle and mother, Helen, Beverly Hills, California.
