DROWNED IN SOUND

Lawrence Cook, a deck hand on the steamer Capital City, slipped on a coil of rope yesterday evening at 8:30 o'clock while the vessel was off Vashon Island bound to Seattle and fell overboard. His cries attracted attention and a boat was lowered to rescue him, but he had disappeared.

Cook was a single man well known along the Seattle waterfront. The officers of the Capital City state that he was somewhat intoxicated yesterday evening.
