Maiden name: Betts
Ida May Hurd, 77, widely known Redondo resident, died Sunday morning at her home. Mrs. Hurd recently suffered a fall which fractured five ribs and this was believed to have hastened her death. She had served as Assistant Postmaster at Redondo for 33 years and had made her home there for 41 years. A member of a pioneer family, Mrs. Hurd was born March 16, 1864 at DeWitt Iowa, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Betts. In 1899 she came west with her husband and five children to Washington. Before moving to Washington she had lived at Des Moines, Iowa. She was a member of the Methodist Church, a charter member of the Dorcas Ladies Aid Society and was an ardent worker in the local Red Cross Chapter. She was married to Isaac Hurd in Kansas in 1883. He preceded her in death in 1938 at Redondo.
Surviving are a son Wilmer, Redondo and a daughter Mrs. Alice Brengman, Redondo. The late Charles Betts was her brother. Final rites were conducted yesterday afternoon in the chapel of the Chittenden Funeral Home with Rev. W.E. Callahan of the Kent Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be at the Sumner Mausoleum.
