Skagit County, Washington
Skagit County lies in northwestern Washington, bordered by Puget Sound to the west and the Cascade Mountains to the east. Established in 1883 from southern Whatcom County, it was named after the Skagit tribes who have long called the region home. The county seat is Mount Vernon, and other historic towns include La Conner, Sedro-Woolley, and Anacortes.
Known for its fertile farmland, river valleys, and vibrant maritime heritage, Skagit County has deep roots in logging, fishing, and agriculture. Today, it remains a vital center for seed farming and tulip cultivation, with rich archival resources and cemeteries that reflect generations of settlers, tribal communities, and pioneer families.
Skagit county record images at familysearch. These are not indexed but if you know the timeframe
that relates to your ancestor you can browse through the images. A Lot of good info here.
In memory of Darilee Cordray Bednar who was the first Skagit county coordinator, 1996 - 2017.
