Sanford Emery McGinnis Family


Sanford Emery McGINNIS was born 23 Jun 1858 in Owen County, IN to Elisha and Rhoda CUMMINGS McGINNIS and died 28 Aug 1905 of a gun shot wound on a hunting trip. At the time of his death,  he was the representative in Bellingham of the New York Life Insurance Company. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1881 with a law degree. He married Margaret Isabel SMITH  22 Sep 1880 in Owen Co, IN, daughter of Noah SMITH and Elizabeth TRUAX. She was born 18 Jun 1863 in  Gosport, Owen, IN, and died 31 Oct 1939. They came to the town of Whatcom in 1883.  In 1895 he was a deputy United States Marshal. Both are buried in Bay View Cemetery.

  1. Sanford Everett McGINNIS was born about 1884 and died 19 Jan 1952.  Married Verna TOOKER who was born in 1888 and died 12 Aug 1960.  Both are buried in Bay View Cemetery.

  2. Myrtle L. McGINNIS was born abt. July 1881 in IN. She was a graduate of the Whatcom high school in 1901 and attended New Whatcom State Normal School in 1899-1900.  Married 1 Jul 1903 at Whatcom, WA Clarence J. HILDEBRAND who was born in IA about July 1878.

  3. Bessie McGINNIS was born abt. July 1887 in Whatcom, WA and died 27 Dec 1972 in Clackamas County, OR.  She married (1) Vince E. BOCHNAK abt. 1910 in Bellingham, WA. He was born abt. 1883 in Poland. She married (2) Mr. YUILL aft. 1930.

  4. Noah John McGINNIS was born 7 Aug 1889 in Whatcom, WA and died 27 Nov 1959.  Married Harriet M. PRESTON who was born 1 May 1889 in VT and died 7 Dec 1963 in Seattle, King, WA.  Both are buried in Bay View Cemetery.

  5. Frank McGINNIS was born abt. August 1896 in Whatcom, WA and died 16 Dec 1903 age 9 and is buried in Bay View Cemetery.
