Joshua B. Pinckney Family


Joshua B. PINCKNEY
 was born 25 Jan 1810 in Bethel Township, Sullivan, NY to Joseph and Mary (DEARIN) PINCKNEY. He married Hannah Ambrose MILLS on 5 Feb 1837 in Salem, Washtenaw, MI. Hannah was born 18 Jan 1815 in Dunbarton, Merrimack, NH to John and Susannah (CHURCH) MILLS. Joshua and Hannah died in Seattle, King, WA in the mid 1890's and were both re-interred in Blaine Cemetery, Blaine, Whatcom, WA on 4 Sep 1909. An excerpt from The Sioux City Eagle dated June 26, 1858 states the following: "We lately passed MR. JOSHUA B. PINKNEY'S farm, situated in the valley of the Big Sioux, some sixteen miles above this place. Mr. P. has a large place of nearly one hundred acres under cultivation, and among other things, we saw on his premises a field of wheat of some twenty acres, which looks as fine as anything of the kind we have seen in the State." In 1862 they were driven off their homestead by Indians in the Minnesota massacre.

  1. John Mills PINCKNEY was born 20 Sept 1839 probably in Salem, Washtenaw, MI. He married (1) 19 Oct 1870 in Sioux City, Woodbury, IA, Emma Chapin PERKINS who was born 24 Oct 1848 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of John Dyer and Lucy (FORSYTH) PERKINS. Emma died 31 Aug 1874 in Sioux City, Woodbury, IA and was buried in Floyd Cemetery in Sioux City, Woodbury, IA. He married (2) 5 Sep 1878 in Joliet, Will, IL, Anna LEWIS who was born in June, 1848, in Bishop's Stortford, England. Anna was the daughter of William and Keziah (JONES) LEWIS. Anna  died on 20 Jan 1916 and was buried in Floyd Cemetery . John died on 1 Feb 1914 and is also buried in Floyd Cemetery in Sioux City, Woodbury, IA.  John M. PINCKNEY owned and operated a wholesale bookstore and stationery store in Sioux City, IA.

  2. William Henry PINCKNEY was born 28 Jan 1843 in Salem, Washtenaw, MI and died 31 Jan 1928 in Blaine, Whatcom, WA. On 24 Mar 1873 in Elk Point, Union, SD he married Anna JACKSON, who died 24 Jun 1926 in Blaine, Whatcom, WA. Anna was born 2 Dec 1851 in New Brighton, Beaver, PA, to Andrew and Jennie (BARRIS) JACKSON. Both are buried in Blaine Cemetery.

  3. Charles Edward PINCKNEY was born 15 Feb 1845 in MI. He married Mrs. Mary J. (SHEETZ) RILEY in the 1870's; possibly in Plymouth County, IA. Mary was born in January, 1853 or 1856, in Indiana and was the daughter of Austin and Sarah Catherine (CURRY) SHEETZ. Charles died abt. 30 June 1894 in Akron, Plymouth, IA. After the death of Charles PINCKNEY his widow married Frank BLY.

  4. Charlotte Anna PINCKNEY was born 21 Feb 1847 in Howell, Livingston, MI. She married 17 Dec 1865 Sampson Piersoll HUGHES at Elk Point, Dakota Territory. Sampson was born 12 Mar 1840 in Pittsburg, Beaver, PA , to John and Nancy HUGHES and died 31 Jul 1920 in Port Orchard, Kitsap, WA. Charlotte died 23 Feb 1917 in Blaine, Whatcom, WA. Both are buried in Blaine Cemetery. Sampson HUGHES enlisted in the Civil War from Iowa City, Johnson, IA.

  5. Albert Milton PINCKNEY was born 1 Dec 1849 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, MI and died 1 Sep 1933 in Walla Walla, Walla Walla, WA. Albert is buried in the Odd Fellows Section of Mountain View Cemetery, in Walla Walla, Walla Walla, WA.

  6. Mary Amelia PINCKNEY was born 11 Dec 1858 in IA, possibly Westfield, Plymouth County. She  married Isaac Herring GRISWOLD on 13 Jun 1881 in Seattle, King, WA as his second wife.  Isaac was born in Campbell, Steuben, NY in March, 1840, son of James GRISWOLD. Mary and Isaac divorced before 1890. Mary GRISWOLD died in San Francisco County, CA on 6 Feb 1945 and is buried in Cypress Memorial Park in Colma, El Dorado, CA. Isaac GRISWOLD died 23 Nov 1913 in Seattle, King, WA.
