Klickitat County's population was tallied at 19,161 in the 2000 census, with the city of Goldendale the county seat.
Klickitat County sits at the southern (central) border of Washington State with the boundary between Oregon and Washington
at the Columbia River. Created out of Walla Walla County in 1859, Klickitat County abounds with opportunities for
resident and visitor alike.
Klickitat County enjoys 85 miles of river frontage on the great Columbia. The world renowned Maryhill Museum of Art
built by Sam Hill overlooks the Columbia, while Wine vineyards dot the hillsides. The Goldendale Observatory boasts
a 24 1/2 inch reflecting telescope that is available for public use.
The Bickleton Carousel Museum, Presby Museum,
campgrounds and parks and a myriad of activities await the adventurer.
We are proud of the rich heritage of mid-nineteenth century settlers who built the foundation of our community.
We celebrate their accomplishments and recognize their sacrifice. Join with us in the adventure of history
and genealogy.
