There are many organizations working to document burials, including Interment.net, USGenWeb Tombstone Project, and Billion Graves. Find-A-Grave has a lot to offer including photos, obituaries, and family ties. It is completely volunteer driven by local folks who go out to cemeteries and photograph headstines either by request or voluntarily so that family members who live far away have the opportunity to "visit" their loved one's final resting place online.
