YANKE, Thomas R. - At his request, there will be no service for Thomas R. Yanke of Blaine. His ashes will be placed in Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale. Mr. Yanke died at his home on Monday, April 2, 2001. He was 83. Mr. Yanke was born in North Dakota on Nov. 14, 1917 to Rudolph and Josie (Wallace) Yanke. Raised in Ferndale, he was a resident of Whatcom County for more than 70 years. He graduated from Ferndale and Meridian high schools and then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1934 until 1939. Mr. Yanke was employed for several years as a carpenter and electrician. He is survived by his wife, Emily, whom he married on Jan. 21, 1945, in Blaine; sons Howard Yanke and Daryl Yanke, both of Bellingham; daughter Marlene Grasher of Bellingham; brothers Ray Yanke of Everett and Jim Yanke of Bellingham; four grandchildren; and other friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation, 600 Birchwood Ave., Suite 101, Bellingham, WA 98225. Arrangements are by Moles Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ferndale.

YATES, Gage Wesley aka "GageO," made his grand entrance into our world June 20, 1985. Among his family and friends, it is widely believed that he somehow managed to squeeze a solid 40 years of excitement and joy out of his 21 years of life. For those that knew and loved him, it was clearly not enough. His passion for life was unsurpassed. Gage had a profound, positive impact on the lives of many people and will never be forgotten. He loved, and is loved by his parents and family. Gage also treasured the love shared with his family of friends, and his dear roommates. Sadly, Gage's joy and love was needed elsewhere and he left our world December 1st, 2006. He is the son of proud parents Robin and Leslie Yates of Bellingham, Grandparents Harlan Yates of Pampa, TX and Eleanor and J. B. Waschke of Bellingham, Uncles Rodney Yates of Lakewood, CO, Steve and Randy Blanton of Burlington, his Aunt Chris of Rochester, MN and cousins Jennifer, Kyle and Hannah. YATES, Priscilla, age 74, of Custer, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2007. She is survived by daughters Susan Carpenter, Amy Katz; sons Scott Terrey, Kevin Terrey (dec); grandchildren Nic Terrey, Diana Jacobson Katz, Lisa Terrey, Kevin Katz, Christopher Terry, Samuel Katz, Holly Carpenter, Susan Katz, Robert Katz; great-grandchildren Rylee McQuire and Seth Miller. She is lost to old friends, dear friends and cousins afar. The "left" lost a fiery supporter, as did children, the animals and the wild and native earth. May her devotion to truth, kindness and justice extend to seed us all. Arrangements under the care of Jerns Funeral Chapel.

YEOMAN, Alan Archibald – No services are planned at this time for Alan Archibald Yeoman of Lynden. Mr. Yeoman died at home Monday, Oct. 16, 2000. He was 83. Born June 7, 1917 to Alan R. and Louise A. (Archibald) Yeoman in Auburn, Nova Scotia, he lived in Whatcom County the past 44 years. Mr. Yeoman earned his bachelor's degree from Seattle Pacific University, a bachelor's of science degree from the University of British Columbia and a master's degree from Western Washington University. He married Murielle Lemieux in Quebec on July 17, 1943. She died in September 2000. Mr. Yeoman was a lieutenant commander in the Canadian Navy, serving from February 1941 to September 1945. He also was an electrical engineer for Boeing Co. and retired after 22 years. Mr. Yeoman was a member of Trinity Anglican Church of Bellevue, the Association of Professional Engineers of British Columbia and the Institute of Electrical Engineers in Great Britain. Survivors include son Richard Yeoman of Ephrata. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.

YEOMAN, Murielle Marie Clara – Services for Murielle Marie Clara (Lemieux) Yeoman of Bellingham will be at a later date. Mrs. Yeoman died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 at Bellingham Health Care and Rehabilitation Services. She was 82. Born Dec 28, 1917 to Charles and Amanda (Meunier) Lemieux in Rivere, Duloup, Quebec, Canada, she moved to Whatcom County in 1956. Mrs. Yeoman attended Brescia Hall College in London, Ontario. On July 17, 1943, she married Alan A. Yeoman in Quebec City, Canada. Mrs. Yeoman was a member of Precious Blood Roman Catholic Parish of Cloverdale, B.C. An avid gardener, she enjoyed music. Survivors include her husband of Lynden; son Richard T. Yeoman of Ephrata and two grandchildren. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.

YORK, Charolette J. - A memorial service for Charolette J. (Grinton) York of Bremerton, formerly of Bellingham, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cross Roads Neighborhood Church in Bremerton. Ashes will be placed in Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard. Mrs. York died of a brain tumor Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton. She was 60. Born Oct. 6, 1940, to Walter and June (Arntzen) Grinton in Bellingham, she graduated from Bellingham High School in 1958. In 1962, she graduated from Western Washington University, and in 1967, graduated from the University of Washington. On June 16, 1962, she married Patrick C. York in Bellingham. Her brother Jay Grinton died previously. Survivors include her husband, of Bremerton; son Carl York of Port Orchard; daughters Cheryl Head of Puyallup and Linnea York of Port Orchard; brothers James Grinton of Bellingham and William Grinton of Tacoma; sisters Loretta Scheltens of Ferndale, Shirley Joneli of Sedro Woolley, Darleen Hulse of Snohomish and Delores Hardison of Torrance, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel of Port Orchard.

YORK, Jacob, aged 73 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Laura York, 2424 Jaeger Street, passed away Wednesday, May 16* 1945, following a lingering illness. Mr. York had been a resident for the past 22 years, was a member of the Church of God and a charter member of Townsend Club No. 5. Surviving relatives include, beside the widow, three sons, Levi H., East St. Louis, Ill., E. W. of Bellingham, and Corporal Homer F., T/5, South Pacific; one half-brother, George Glessner, Bartlesville, Okla., and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist funeral Home, Friday, May 18, at 10 am, conducted by Rev. J.B. Sawyer. Interment in Greenacres Memorial Park.

YORK, Laura U. York, age 85 of 2412 Jaeger St., passed away in Snohomish October 17, 1966. A resident of Bellingham for the past 43 years and a member of the Church of God. She leaves to survive 2 sons, E. W. "Curley" York of Edmonds, Wash., Homer J. York of Montana, 1 sister Mrs. Nellie Findley of Mt. Vernon, Wash., 1 brother, Harry Young of Oklahoma, also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. YORK, Laurie L. (Jackson), age 24 of Bellingham passed away Mon., Aug. 26, 1991 in Bellingham. She was born Nov. 2, 1966 in Bellingham to Robert & Marlene Jackson and was a lifetime resident who graduated from Ferndale High School in 1985. Laurie also graduated from S.S.T. Travel School in Seattle. She loved children, animals, and babysat whenever she could. She is survived by her husband Anthony L. York of the family home; her parents Robert & Marlene Jackson of Bellingham; 2 brothers, Robert L. Jackson of Ferndale and Jeff Jackson of Bellingham; a sister Kerri L. Newtown of Bellingham; grandmother, Helen Hammell of Seattle and grandparents, Vernon & Josephine Miller of Bellingham; 2 nieces and 3 nephews. A funeral service will be held Fri., Aug. 30, 2:00 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church with burial following at Greenacres Memorial Park. Rev. Leonard Ericksen will be officiating. YOUNT, Preston Theodore passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2007. He was born in Blaine, WA on February 7, 1919 to Norman and Edna Yount. Preston graduated from Blaine High School and went into the Army in May of 1942. He was a Radio Operator and Marksman M-1 Rifle and was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, G0177 HQXX Corps 45. After discharge, Preston returned to Ferndale and worked for Carnation Milk Company before being transferred to Mt. Vernon and then to Darigold in Lynden. He worked for Darigold until he retired.
Preston "Bud" lived for sports, and especially loved his Huskies. He never gave up on them and also attended every Ferndale and Bellingham Bells game for as long as he could, supporting them all the way. He was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church. Preston was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Norman "Garth" Yount. Our family was fortunate to be part of Preston's life and he will be thoroughly missed by his family, Jim and Barb "Bobbie" Miller, Ray and Gene Olson, Linda "Lin" Swartos (Jim), Rick Weatherby and Sharon Weatherby; and by his game buddies, Laverne Harkleroad, Bob DeMeyer, and Bud Hawkins. Preston loved all of his friends at the Louisa House Assisted Living and he considered them to be his family. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. in the Moles-Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Robert Johnson officiating.

YOUNG, Bertha Katherine, age 81, a long time resident of Aberdeen, WA passed away at a Seattle hospital Thursday March 9, 1978. She was born to Adam and Alice Rauch, formerly of Whatcom County, April 14, 1896 in Canistota, SD. She and her husband Walter, who died in 1968, were well known Grays Harbor dairy operators. Bertha was a member of the Orthopedic Guild and YMCA club. She is survived by a brother Stanley Rauch of Bellingham; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Martin of Bellingham; Gertrude Ellingsen of Anacortes,WA and Marie Petersen of Portland, OR; a niece Yolonda Clark of Seattle and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whiteside Chapel in Aberdeen, WA. Burial will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen, WA.

YOUNG, Janice D. "Reed" age 57, of 8450 Portal Way, Blaine, passed away Thurs. Sept. 19, 1991 at Providence Medical Center in Seattle. Mrs. Young was born June 20, 1934 in Sandy, Oregon to Walter and Hazel Duncan. She has been a resident of Whatcom County since 1968; member of Good News Fellowship Mennonite Brethren Church of Ferndale; and worked at Intalco Aluminum Corp as a Potline Attendant since 1979. Mrs. Young is survived by her 4 sons, Gregory L. Reed & wife Elsie of Ferndale, Philip C. Reed & wife Marianne of Blaine, Rick W. Reed & wife Carol of Wasilla, Alaska; Robert J. Reed & wife Michelle of Blaine; 2 daughters, Rebecca J. Reed of Blaine and Teresa L. Carlisle & husband Mitch of Blaine; her parents, Walter and Hazel Duncan of Vancouver, WA; 7 grandchildren; 1 step-granddaughter; 2 brothers, David & Garth Duncan of Vancouver, WA; 3 sisters, Zelda Kelso of Portland, OR, Carol Flin of Bremerton, Claudia Feigner of Redmond, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. There will be visitation Mon. Sept. 23, 3-9 p.m., at Moles Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tues. YOUNG, John C., age 90 of Ferndale, a resident of Whatcom County for 84 years, died on Wednesday, December 31, 1997. He was born on March 27, 1907 in McBain, MI, to Tom and Ada (Couch) Young. He married Bernice Bliven in Lynden on July 19, 1929. For forty years he worked for the Carnation Milk Company in the Ferndale milk plant and [sic] milk tanker driver, also farming on the side. He enjoyed basketball, flowers, spending time with his family, traveling, horses, and a team of oxen - and climbing from Glacier to the top of Mount Baker. Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Bernice; four sons, Ray and wife Nada Young of Ferndale, Clyde and wife Marlene Young of Birch Bay, Glen and wife Cindy Young of Ferndale, Jay and wife Beryl Young of Ferndale; brother Gordon and wife Lorna Young of North Bend, WA; sister-in-law Jessica Young of Lynden; eighteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 5, 1998, 2:30 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park, with Pastor Carl Fisher officiating. Moles Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

YOUNG, Lucy Ellen - An early resident of Custer and Bellingham, Mrs. Lucy Ellen Young, age 82, died at Aberdeen Thursday, April 12, (1951) after a short illness. She came to Custer with her husband, W. H. Young, in 1902. They spent five years in California but maintained a farm near Custer. Mrs. Young moved to Aberdeen about 10 years ago. Among the survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Nels Hermansen of Aberdeen, Mrs. Vernon Welch and Mrs. A. E. Bowsher of Bellingham; five sons, Archie N. of Aberdeen, Paul H. of Tacoma, Walter H. and Edwin L. of Bellingham, and Carl L. of Benton Harbor, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services were held in Aberdeen with burial in Enterprise cemetery.

YOUNG, Randall – A memorial service for Randall "Randy" Young of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jerns Funeral Home, with the Rev. Al Currier officiating. Mr. Young died Monday, July 10, 2000 at his home. He was 59. Born Oct 14, 1940, to Ed and Hazel Young in Burlington, Iowa, he had been a local resident since 1945 and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1958. On Aug 4, 1958, he began working as a printer at The Bellingham Herald. He worked as a pre-press technician in the composing department of The Herald until his death. Mr. Young was a former member of the Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed fishing and playing pool. His parents died previously. Survivors include daughter Jami Dunn of Ferndale; companion Koni Kostick of Bellingham; brother Don Young and sister Mary Jo Case, both of Bellingham; three grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.

YOUNG, Wilferd H. - A graveside service for W. H. "Bill" Young of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenacres Memorial Park with the Rev. Al Currier officiating. Mr. Young died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at Highland Convalescent Center. He was 82. Born July 24, 1915, to William and Josephine Atwood Young in Hallowell, Kan., he lived in Whatcom County for 67 years. He married Vera McHeffey Jan. 8, 1936, in Bellingham. Mr. Young worked in a shipyard during World War II and on construction of local streets and refineries. He retired in 1971. After retiring, he operated Bill's Bike Shop out of his home. A Cub Scout Master for many years, Mr. Young was a member of Laborer's Local No. 276 and served as local president for 23 years. He was preceded in death by son Tom Young in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Vera, of the family home, six grandsons, William & wife Dorothy Young of Rapid City, S.D., David & wife Melissa Young of Federal Way, Steven, Michael, John, and Don Young of Bellingham; four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

YOUNGER, Asa Frank, age 77, of 3008 Orleans St., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, June 21, (1959). Mr. Younger had been a resident of this community for the past 50 years, was a retired stove repairman for B. B. Furniture Store, and was a member of Teamster's Local 231. Surviving relatives include the widow, Elizabeth at home; a son Kenneth Younger of Bellingham; three grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and a brother Nick Younger of Medford, Ore. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. W. Carl Calhoun Tuesday, June 23 at 3 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

YOUNGER, Kenneth, 1105 Grant St, age 63 passed away at home Thursday, April 15, (1971). Mr. Younger was a life resident of this city, and was a retired cab dispatcher. Surviving are his wife LaVern; 2 step sons, Elmer and Bill Ostrander, both of the city; 1 step daughter, Mrs. LaVurn (sic) Donovan, city; mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Younger, city; step grandchildren. YOUNGS, Della Ruth - A gathering for Della Ruth Youngs of Bellingham will be at noon Sunday at the clubhouse at 2400 Donovan Ave. Mrs. Youngs died Friday, April 4, 1997. She was 78. Born Oct 2, 1918, to Eva and Orkey Johnson, she was raised by her mother and stepfather Tom Burke. A lifelong Whatcom County resident, Mrs. Youngs was a homemaker and worked for the county Treasurer's Office. She enjoyed bowling and visiting with friends and relatives. Mrs. Youngs was preceded in death by stepbrother Joe Burke; her first husband, Howard Johnstone; and her second husband, Bob Page Jr., in 1972. Survivors include husband Mel Youngs of Bellingham; daughters Pamela Page of Deming and Sharon Cash of Salem, Ore.; sons James Johnstone of Ashland, Ore., Robert Page III of Port Orchard and Jeffery Page of Graham; stepdaughters Beth Cook of Norfolk, Mass., and Lynne Wills of Australia; stepsons Fred Youngs of Visalia, Calif., Marc Youngs of Oakland, Calif., and Brian Youngs of San Jose, Calif.; stepbrother Bob Burke of Nooksack; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.

YOUNKINS, Bob, was born in Johnstown, PA on Dec. 17, 1929 and died peacefully on Sept. 11, 2004 of lung cancer. He leaves behind his wife Mary of 50 years; daughters Carol Handy & husband Al & Karen Younkins and fiancée Doug Hackett; grandsons Jason and Tony Dorning; great-granddaughter Makayla Dorning; brothers Jule, Jim and Don; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and his beloved pets: cows Charlote and Charmane & loyal dog Pepsi. He was preceded in death by his father Harry & stepmother Dagmar; sister Virginia; and brother Ray. In life, Bob loved hunting and fishing and was an avid volunteer. He was a faithful volunteer fireman for Bakerview District #4, a current and active member of Whatcom County Search and Rescue 4x4 unit. He was honored by Governor Gary Locke with the Jefferson Award in Seattle in 1998. He retired from Georgia Pacific in 1989 after 35 years of service. He was in the Coast Guard for 5 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and friend. We will celebrate his life at the Bellingham Moose Lodge on Sunday, Sept. 19th at 3 p.m.
