SCODELLER, Gladys L. of Everett died August 20, 1993 in a Everett Nursing Home. She was born July 2, 1906 in Durango, Mexico. Her parents were Dr. Chauncey B. and Margaret (Mathews) Jones. She lived in Everett for most of her life. She was a graduate of Everett High School in 1924 and attended the University of Washington. Mrs. Scodeller was an office worker at the Weyerhauser Sulfite Mill until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Everett and PEO. She leaves her Sons and Daughters in law, Fred G. and Mardon Dean of Tacoma; Jack B. and Patricia Dean of Arlington; Reg and Betty Scodeller of Everett; Larry and Kathy Scodeller of Bellingham; her 10 grandchildren; Carol Dean, Fred Dean, Kenneth Dean, Sharon Milan, Jody Dean, Terry Scodeller, Joanne Basler, Debbie Warfield, Wendy Scodeller, Daniel Scodeller and 8 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred B. Dean and Louis Scodeller and her Brother Chauncy Jones Jr. Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 1993 at Cascade View Presbyterian Church 1030 East Casina Road, Everett. SCOFIELD, Arvilla, age 70 of 504 16th St., passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, (1977). Prior to coming to Bellingham a year and 1/2 ago, she had been a resident of Wenatchee for the past 18 years. Prior to her retirement, she was an assistant librarian at the Wenatchee Valley College. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Cecil C. Scofield, former principal of Leavenworth High School. Arvilla was a member of the First Methodist Church in Wenatchee, PEO Chapter CP and Order of Eastern Star, Cascade Chapter, Leavenworth. Surviving 1 daughter, Mrs. Ten (Jane) Parsons, City; 1 son, Max J. Scofield, Mercer Island; 1 sister, Mrs. Josephine Moser, Lincoln, Neb. and 6 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Wenatchee on Jan. 21, 1977 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Oscar Olsen officiating. Private interment in Wenatchee City Cemetery. SCOFIELD, Ernest M., Captain, age 54, of 825 Austin St., passed away in the Naval Hospital in Bremerton Tuesday, July 19, (1960). Capt. Scofield was a life resident of Whatcom County and was a retired Marine Corps officer. Survivors are one brother, Merrield Scofield, of Seattle; two sisters, Mrs. Gene Altman, of Bellingham, and Mrs. Thomas Keeney of Seattle. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Grant Whipple, Friday, July 22, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

SCOFIELD, Lester, age 66 years, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, May 20, (1945). Mr. Scofield was a logger and had resided in this vicinity the past forty-three years, his home being at Deming. Surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Luella Altman, Bellingham, and Mrs. Essie Kenney, Seattle; one son, Ernest M. Scofield, U.S. Marines, his father, John Henry, in Iowa; three brothers, Ben C., Hartford, Wash., Walter at Goldendale, Wash., and Wolla in Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Hoyer, White Salmon, and Mrs. Bertha Ferguson in Nebraska; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. SCOLLARD, Frank, age 60, of 1509 E. Victor, passed away in a local hospital, Monday, June 5, (1961) following an extended illness. Mr. Scollard had resided in Bellingham for the past 49 years and was a retired longshoreman. He leaves to survive one sister, Mrs. Beth Geroy of Route 5, city; one nephew J. C. Scollard and one great-nephew, Jerry Scollard, both of Spokane. Rosary will be said Wednesday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home. Requiem mass will be offered Thursday, June 8, at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of the Assumption. Interment Woodlawn.

SCOLLARD, Henry Charles, age 57, of 1602 Alabama, lost his life late Sunday, November 13, (1949) following an auto accident. Mr. Scollard had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 37 years and was a member of the Church of the Assumption. Surviving relatives include his mother, Mrs. Margaret Scollard, city; two brothers, Jack and Frank Scollard, both at home; one sister, Mrs. T. W. Geroy, of Route 5, city. Rosary will be said Tuesday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. within the Church of the Assumption. Requiem mass will be celebrated within the Church Wednesday, November 16, at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. SCOLLARD, John H. (Jack), age 77 years, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, May 3, (1961) following an extended illness. SCOLLARD, Margaret S., age 89 years, of 1602 Alabama, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, Feb. 16, (1953) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Scollard had been a resident of Bellingham since 1912 and was a member of the Church of the Assumption. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Beth Geroy, of Route 5, City; two sons, John and Frank, both of Bellingham; one grandson, John C. Scollard, and one great-grandson, Gerry Scollard, both of Spokane. Rosary will be said Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. within the Church of the Assumption. Requiem mass will be read Friday, Feb. 20, at 9 a.m. within the Church of the Assumption with the Rev. Fr. Bernard Cremer officiating. SCORE, Elise J. - Memorial services were held for Elise J. Score Friday, May 9 at Verosek, Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel in Bellingham. Mrs. Score had been ill for a long time. She was born in East Amana, Iowa, May 4, 1898 and moved to Deming from California about 20 years ago to be near her son and family. She is survived by Dean and Lee Score, son and daughter-in-law of Deming; Marlene and Joe Nally, daughter and son-in-law of Winter Haven, Florida; granddaughter, Judy Wilson, Seattle; grandsons Eric and Michael Score, Deming; 2 grandsons in Florida, and 2 great grandchildren. Her remains will be buried in Sacramento, California where she had made her home prior to moving to Deming. [d. May 7, 1980]

SCOVEL, Verne, age 97, passed away in a local nursing home, July 1, 1988. She has been a resident of Bellingham for the past 20 years, and leaves to survive, a sister Frances James of Seattle; a niece Dorothy Nicolay of Bellingham; a nephew Russell Jackson of Bellingham. SCOVILL, George W., age 78 years, of Lynden, passed away Oct. 19, (1957) at the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs. Verner Pearson, of Clipper. He was a pioneer resident of the Lynden district, having come here in 1887. Several years ago he served on the Lynden City Council for the period of 12 years. He was a member of the Clamdiggers Association. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Annie Anderson, Bellingham, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Verner Pearson of Clipper, one stepgrandson, Donald Morley, of Seattle and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. from the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden with the Rev. Floyd Wells officiating. Interment Lynden Cemetery.

SCOTT, Allen, age 92, of 216 East Holly Street, passed away in a local hospital, Thursday, June 2, (1955). Mr. Scott had been a resident of this community the past 70 years and was a retired cannery fireman. Surviving relatives include a son, Jared Scott in Los Angeles, Calif., a daughter, Mrs. Margaurite Slotterbeck of Bellingham; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Fannie Lashua of Seattle, and numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Rev. George Ackley, Monday, June 6, at 2 p.m. Cremation.

SCOTT, Anne Alymer, age 64, 605 Fourteenth Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, September 9, (1952). Mrs. Scott had resided in Bellingham for the past 14 years, and was a member of the St. James Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Aftermath Club, St. Luke's Assistance League, and the Women of Rotary. Surviving relatives include her husband, Howard L. Scott, at the family home; two sons, Howard P. Scott, of Bellingham, and Dr. Nathaniel C. Scott, of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Mrs. Ysobel Oberg of Bellingham, and Mrs. Jean McPherson, of Bremerton; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Frank G. Roberts, of Billings, Mont.; and a sister, Mrs. Katherine Slingluff, of Chicago. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where private services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Penhalurick Thursday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Greenacres Memorial Park. Public Memorial services will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m., at St. James Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Harold E. Penhalurick and James M. Wilson.

SCOTT, Carol Jean, age 42, of Ladner, B.C., passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 1989, in a Ladner hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born Feb. 8, 1947, in Bellingham and was a 1965 graduate of Nooksack Valley High School. She is survived by her loving husband, Ron; three daughters, Tamara, Janelle and Candice, all at home; her parents, Rene and Ruth Schouten of Everson; a brother, Marinus Schouten of Reno, Nevada; a grandmother, Frances Van Soest of Everson; her parents-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. C. Scott, formerly of Lynden. Carol was a member of the Cedar Park Church in Ladner. A memorial service was held at the church on Wednesday, Dec. 6, with pastor R. Bystrom officiating. Arrangements were by Delta Funeral Home in Ladner.

SCOTT, Carolyn, Everett, who until her retirement taught in the schools of the Northwest 49 years, including Whatcom County, died Thursday (Aug. 6, 1953) in an Everett hospital. Born in Chicago, she came to the Northwest and to this county in 1903. She is survived only by several nieces and nephews in the East. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Challacombe & Fickel funeral parlors in Everett, and burial and graveside services have been arranged for 4 p.m. Monday in Bay View cemetery here, where her father and mother, Myron W. Scott and Margaretta Scott, are buried.

SCOTT, Catherine E., age 83, of San Diego, Calif., passed away in that city Tuesday, Feb. 19, (1957). Mrs. Scott had resided in Bellingham and Glacier many years before moving to San Diego 4 1/2 years ago. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Jean S. Clough of San Diego; a grandson, Don F. Clough of San Diego, and two sisters, Miss Tena Campbell and Miss Helen Campbell, both of Bellingham. SCOTT, Chester Milton, 71, died Saturday (April 27, 1985) in Woodland, Calif. He was born at Minkler Lake in Sedro-Woolley on June 13, 1913, and lived in Skagit County until moving to California in 1974. Survived by his wife, Alta; a son, Robert Vernon Scott of Kent; a brother, Vincent of Sedro-Woolley; a grandson; and a granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with burial in the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.

SCOTT, Clara Marillia (May), aage 67, of 823 Garden St., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, June 6, (1953). Miss Scott had resided in this city for the past 18 years and was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving relatives are two nephews, Dr. William C. Scott of Portland, Ore., and Dr. Charles C. Scott of Chico, Calif., and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jane C. Scott of Portland, Ore. SCOTT, Craig Steven, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Scott, passed away at a local hospital Monday, April 5, (1954). Besides the parents he is survived by the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Scott, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cassell all of this city, maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Cassell of Kellogg, Idaho, paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Maleng of Acme. Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 7, at 2 p.m. with Rev. A. J. Shaughnessey officiating. SCOTT, Darryl Craig of Ferndale died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, of injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was 16. A vigil served was held Monday at Wex le em, Lummi Community Center. A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Warm Springs Reservation, Warm Springs, Ore. Born Dec. 14, 1980, in Madras, Ore., he lived in Ferndale for 11 years and was a junior at Ferndale High School. Darryl was artistic, enjoyed cooking and was active in the City League basketball program. Survivors include his father, Darryl D. Scott, of Ferndale; his mother Vanessa Gabriel of Warm Springs, Ore.; brothers Nathaniel Scott and Anthony Ysaguirre, both of Ferndale; sisters Stacy Scott and Adeva Scott of Warm Springs; grandmother Alice Scott of Warm Springs; and numerous other relatives. SCOTT, Earl Wayne, age 18, a resident of Acme, died Friday, April 16, (1976) near Deming. Born July 13, 1957 in Hawthorne, Nevada. He had lived most of his life in the Whatcom County area. He had been employed by the Ketchikan Pulp Co. in Alaska. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Scott of Thornbay, Alaska; three sisters, Cathy Hamilton of Acme, Marcy and JoAnn Scott of Thornbay, Alaska; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Val Ellis of Burlington and grandmother, Laura Schultz of Mount Vernon. Services will be held Monday, April 26 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lemley Chapel, Sedro Woolley, followed by interment in the Sedro Woolley Union Cemetery.

SCOTT, Edgar Eugene, aged 78 years, passed away at the family home, 2627 Grove Street, on his birthday, Thursday, December 6, (1945) following a four months' illness. Mr. Scott came to Bellingham thirty-one years ago and for twenty-six years was sales manager fro the Whatcom Falls Mill. He was a member of Bellingham Bay Lodge, No. 44, F. & A.M. The survivors are the widow, Mrs. Katherine A. Scott; one son, Merritt E. Scott, Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Katherine E. Scott, Olympia, Wash.; two grandchildren; one brother, W. G. Scott, Mountain Grove, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Frances Barrier, Labette, Kan. SCOTT, Edythe May, age 75 years, of Everson, passed away in a local hospital Friday, June 20, (1958) following a short illness. She was the widow of the late William G. Scott. She had resided in Everson the past 42 years. She leaves to survive one daughter, Mrs. John Williams; 4 grandchildren, Scott, Charlotte, Richard and Alan Williams, all of Bellingham; one brother, Norval C. Trombley of Everson. SCOTT, Erma M.(Smith), age 76, of Everett, died July 29, 1985 in an Edmonds hospital. She was born & raised in Bellingham, Oct. 4, 1908. She had lived in Marysville for 5 years and Everett for the last 36 years. SCOTT, Frank Vivian, age 77, who resided at 4118 Morgan Rd., Sumas, passed away at his residence Friday, December 23, 1983. Mr. Scott was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and a lifetime resident of Sumas. Mr. Scott was a retired Sexton for the Nooksack Cemetery and for many other cemeteries in Whatcom County. He leaves to survive his wife, Mary D. SCOTT, George D., 62, 2502 Peabody St., died November 23, (1972). Mr. Scott had lived here since 1964. He was a retired carpenter. Survivors include the widow, Jeanine; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Drew, Port Orchard and Mary Catherine Miller, Seattle; six grandchildren and two sisters.

SCOTT, Gertrude E., who resided at 119 N. Commercial passed away in a local hospital June 19th, (1977). She had been a lifetime resident of B'ham. & was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church & Catholic Daughter of America & Retired Teachers. She leaves to survive 1 sister, Mrs. Sadie Cody & a sister-in-law Mrs. Ruth Scott, both of B'ham. Numerous nieces & nephews. Rosary will be recited Wed., June 22 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home with mass of Christian burial to be celebrated Thursday, June 23 at 10 a.m. in the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Patrick Callahan as celebrant. SCOTT, Glen E., age 51 of 332 E. Pole Rd., Lynden, passed away Tues. Aug. 26, (1975). A Whatcom county resident since 1966 Mr. Scott was a general foreman of the Cast House for Intalco. He was a veteran of WWII and was married to Alice Daniels, Aug. 16, 1946 in McCammon, Idaho. Besides his wife Alice he is survived by 1 son, Kenneth E. Scott of Lynden, 4 daughters, Mrs. Jackie Brause of LaBarge, Wyo., Mrs. Glenna Hahn of Grace, Idaho, Mrs. Elaine Imel of Bellingham, and Betty Scott of the family home, 2 brothers, James W. Scott of Spokane and Harry E. Scott of Pocatello, Idaho, a half brother, John Johannsen, Rock Springs, Wyo., 1 sister, Mrs. Hazel Gummersal of Soda Springs, Idaho and a half sister, Mrs. Helen Ridley of Black Foot, Idaho, 7 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. SCOTT, Glendora passed away peacefully in the family home in Seattle on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997. She was 69. She married Joseph Leonard Scott on Sept. 5, 1946 and together established Scott's Trophy Co. in 1954. She is survived by her husband of 51 years; daughters Pam Richards of Redmond & Patty Reimers of Bellingham; grandchildren Scott, Clark & Wade Richards of Redmond & Lindsay & Austin Reimers of Bellingham; mother Opal Rodgers; many other relatives. She devoted her life to her family & enjoyed gardening, sewing, & their beach home at Sandy Point. She taught all that knew & loved her many lessons of strength & courage during her illness. Her beautiful smile will be remembered by all whose lives she touched. There will be a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Evergreen Washelli.

SCOTT, Hazel Stewart, age 69 of Blaine, passed away in a Bellingham hospital Sunday, April 8, (1956) following a short illness. She was a member of the Cardinal Rebekah Lodge No. 154. She is survived by her brother, Howard Merrill of Blaine. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. from the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine, with members of the Cardinal Rebekah Lodge No. 151 (sic) conducting Ritualistic Rites. SCOTT, Howard L., age 68, of 1372 Meridian Road, passed away in a local hospital, Thursday, Aug. 3, (1961). Mr. Scott had been a resident of Bellingham for 22 years and was a retired vice president and sales manager of Pacific American Fisheries. He was an elder of St. James Presbyterian Church; a member of the Rotary Club; Hobby Club; Mispah Lodge No. 302, A.F.&A.M., Omaha, Neb.; the Old Guard Society; chairman of Whatcom County Republicans; retired president of the Deming-Gould Company; past president of National Food Brokers Assn., and emeritus member N.F.B.A. advisory commission. He is survived by the widow, Beulah, at home; two sons, Dr. Nathaniel C. Scott, Omaha, Neb.; Howard P. Scott, Bellingham; one daughter, Mrs. Melvin Oberg, Bellingham; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Lawrence I. Scott, Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and R. Bruce Scott of Burton, O. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home. Private services will be conducted by Dr. Glenn C. Carlson, on Monday, Aug. 7, followed by burial at Greenacres Memorial Park. SCOTT, James Rex of 4478 Rural Ave. died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1993, at Alderwood Park Convalescent Care center. He was 96. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Moles Funeral Home Chapel in Ferndale. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Born March 24, 1897, to Harry and Leah M. Cooper Scott in Bellingham, he lived his entire life in Whatcom County. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in World War I and World War II. Mr. Scott was a poultry farmer for 20 years, and was an avid gardener, growing vegetables and flowers. Survivors include a brother, Frank Scott of Bellingham.

SCOTT, Janet H., age 71, of 3011 Alderwood Ave., passed away in a local hospital, April 27, (1957). Mrs. Scott had been a resident of this community the past 40 years, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and of Maple Leaf Chapter No. 58, O.E.S. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Edna Hobart of Seattle; a son, Walter Scott of Roseburg, Ore.; a granddaughter, Renee Scott of Roseburg, Ore.; four sisters, Mrs. James Hill of Bellingham, Mrs. Eva Hewitt of Vancouver, B.C., Mrs. M. Norris and Mrs. A. Bailey, both of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, John Reid in Ireland, and numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. E. Gordon Crider and officers of Maple Leaf Chapter No. 58, O.E.S., Tuesday, April 30 at 3 p.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.

SCOTT, Jennie, age 84, of 2315 Williams St. passed away in a local hospital Sunday, March 10, (1963). Scott had resided in Bellingham for the past 50 years. She leaves to survive one son Sanford N. Gilbert, Seattle, and one grandchild, city, and one nephew. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Westford Funeral Home with Rev. W. SCOTT, John A. "Jack" 70, former publisher of The Bellingham Herald and former president and chairman of the Gannett Foundation, died at his Cocoa Beach, Fla., home Wednesday, (Oct. 1, 1986). "He was a wonderful combination of politician, publisher and punster, " said Allen H. Neuharth, chairman of the Gannett Co. Inc.. and the Gannett Foundation. "His wiles, wit and wisdom made him unique and loved by all. His leadership at the Gannett Foundation helped communities and people across the U.S.A." Mr. Scott held the post of publisher at The Herald and The Daily Olympian in Olympia for about eight months in 1971. From 1976 to 1981, Mr. Scott was president of the Gannett Foundation, a philanthropic organization with assets of $600 million that distributes grants in communities in which The Gannett Co. owns properties. He became chairman of the board of the foundation after his retirement as its president. Mr. Scott had a varied and active career in the military and the newspaper business. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, he became a teacher while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He was ordered to active duty in 1941. During his six years on active dury, he earned the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with valor clasp and the Purple Heart. After World War II he rejoined the reserve, retiring in 1959 with the rank of brigadier general. Mr. Scott first became a newspaper executive with the South Bend, Ind., Tribune and served as mayor of South Bend before joining the Elkhart, Ind., Truth. He then became publisher of several Federated Publications newspapers, first in Lafayette, Ind., then in Boise, Idaho, Olympia and Bellingham. When the Gannett Co. Inc. purchased Federated, Scott was named publisher of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and president of Gannett Pacific. After four years in Hawaii, Scott became president of the Gannett Foundation, one of the nation's 20 largest foundations. Scott is survived by his wife, Patricia, two daughters and two sons.

SCOTT, John Charles, 40, 5602 Second Ave., died at St. Joseph's Hospital on Friday Sept. 4, 1992, of complications from a motorcycle accident in June. A memorial service will be held noon Friday at Moles Funeral Home Chapel in Ferndale, with the Rev. Brian McGovern officiating. Mr. Scott was born to John and Joan Scott in St. John's New Foundland, Canada, on Dec. 11, 1951. He graduated from Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colo., in 1968, served in the U.S. Army for two years and graduated from Bellingham Technical College in 1990. He lived in Ferndale for nine years. Survivors include his son, David Neely of Denver, Colo.; his parents of Aurora, Colo.; brothers Robert Scott of Savannah, Ga., and Don Scott of Aurora; sister Joann Pattern of Ferndale; grandmother Mary Mulholland of San Diego; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Cremation was by Greenacres Crematorium.

SCOTT, John Elsworth, age 59 years, 2531 Elm, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday, August 27, (1947) after an illness of six months. Mr. Scott had been a resident of Bellingham for the past eleven years and was a member of the Church of the Assumption. Surviving relatives include his widow, Mrs. Josephine Scott; one son, John E. Scott Jr., Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. William Day, Bremerton, and Miss Mae Scott, Foley, Mich.; five brothers, William W. Scott, North Bend, Wash., Joseph A., Foley, Minn. (sic), George M., at Los Angeles, Calif., Sam, also of Los Angeles, and Charles Scott of North Bend, Wash.; also numerous other relatives. The remains rest at the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home.

SCOTT, John S., age 79 years, passed away at his home, 2800 Illinois, Tuesday, January 23, (1945). Mr. Scott had been a resident of this community for the past 42 years and was affiliated with the International Association of Machinists, having been a master machinist and long-time employee of the Larson mill. He is survived by an aunt in Edinborough, Scotland, also several cousins in Scotland. SCOTT, Joseph E., 76, of Bellingham, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1992. Mr. Scott was born Sept. 8, 1915 in Parker, Ind., to Ora and Henrietta Scott. He graduated from Harrison Township High School in 1933 and in 1936, moved to Bellingham to work as an apprentice log scaler and forest fire fighter. He married his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Barron, in 1940. During World War II, he worked in local shipyards. He started working for Barron Tire Co. in 1944. He assumed ownership of the company from 1968 until 1978, when he became co-owner of Holly Lynn Daycare. He retired in 1986. Mr. Scott was also an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist. Survivors include sons Virgil Scott of Bellingham and Daniel Scott of Everett; daughter Bonnie Anderson of Bellingham; brothers LeRoy Scott of Cincinnati; sister Geraldine Benadum of Muncie; and grandsons William, Brian and Jeremy Anderson, all of Bellingham, Marty Scott of Bellingham, and Craig Scott of Everett. At Mr. Scott's request, no services will be held. Friends and family are invited to visit the house of Virgil and Carol Scott from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at 901 E. McLeod St., Bellingham.

SCOTT, Josephine, age 82 of 2523 Elm St., passed away Friday, June 18, (1976). Mrs. Scott was a former Bellingham resident having moved to Seattle 8 years ago. She leaves to survive 1 son, John E. SCOTT, Katherine A., age 91, of 306 Maple Park, Olympia, passed away in that city Wednesday, May 16, (1962). Mrs. Scott had resided here 50 years prior to moving to Olympia in 1950. SCOTT, Katherine Emily, a longtime Whatcom County resident, died July 13, 1997 in Blaine, Washington. Ms. Scott was born on October 13, 1908 in Bellingham to parents Edgar Eugene and Katherine Scott. She attended college in Aurora, Illinois and returned to Bellingham. In 1947, she went to Olympia where she worked for the Department of Labor and Industry as a file clerk. After her retirement in 1972, she returned to Whatcom County where she lived on Lummi Island. Survivors include a nephew Edgar E. Scott and his wife Helen of Bellingham; two nieces Karen A. Trautmann and her husband Dr. Phil Trautmann of Portland, Oregon and Kelsey Capps and her husband David of Salem, Oregon; three grandnephews Eugene Trautmann, Merritt E. Scott and T. Scott Capps, and a great grand niece Madison Nicole Scott. Ms. Scott was a member of the Aurora Alumni Association. At her request, there will be no services. SCOTT, Kenneth E., age 28 of Kemmerer, Wyoming, died Wednesday, March 31, 1982. He was a roughneck in the oil fields and attended Meridian High School in this area and was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints. SCOTT, Mabel Jewell, 68, formerly of Bellingham, died Saturday, May 16, 1992, in Kansas City, Mo. She was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Bellingham to Charles and Norma Jewell. A 1941 graduate of Bellingham High School, she took nurse's training at Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Everett. In 1974 in Wenatchee, she married Ned Scott. He survives her at Moses Lake. Other survivors include her daughters Julie Lufkin of Tucson, Ariz., and Dr. Nancy Downs of Leawood, Kan.; her son Richard Leininger of Seattle; brothers Jack Jewell of Entiat and Charles Jewell of East Wenatchee; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. SCOTT, Marie C. - Graveside services for Marie C. Scott, age 90, were held on Wednesday, June 20, at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Westford Funeral Home with the Rev. John Gibbs officiating. A reception was held at St. Paul's Parish Hall. Mrs. Scott, of 1009 24th St. Bellingham, died June 16, 1990, at her home. She loved gardening and worked in her yard up until the day before her death. A lifetime resident of Whatcom County, Mrs. Scott was born Marie Hunsby on March 3, 1900, at Lawrence in rural Everson. Her parents were Christian and Johanna Marie Hunsby, who had immigrated from Norway. She was a charter member of the South Bellingham Community Club and was active in her church group. Survivors include her son, Frank "Moose" Zurline, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her brother, George Hunsby, all of Bellingham.

SCOTT, Marjean Bowers of Bellingham died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was 75. A memorial service was held Tuesday. Born April 1, 1922, to James and Irene Sefrit Bowers in Bellingham, she was in the first graduating class of Bellingham High School and later attended Western Washington University. She married Howard Scott on July 17, 1941. They divorced in 1971. An avid Seattle Mariners fan, Ms. Scott also enjoyed organizing the annual Scott family reunions, gardening and baking Christmas cookies for her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Lou York. Survivors include daughters Melinda Greer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sally Simmons of Burlington, Betsy Johnson of Eugene, Ore., Mary Larson of Bellingham and Katherine Scott of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Bellingham; sons Howard Scott of Bellingham, William Scott of Anchorage, Alaska, Charles Scott of Whitefish, Mont., Frank Scott of Telluride, Colo., Michael Scott of Maple Valley and Timothy Scott of Auburn; special friend, Frankie; and numerous other relatives.

SCOTT, Mary D., formerly of 408 2nd Ave. No. 8, Sumas, passed away at Sehome Care Center on Friday, Jan. 25, 1991 at the age of 78. A funeral liturgy was scheduled today at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Sumas with Father Gary Southerton as celebrant. Burial will follow in Nooksack Cemetery. Mrs. Scott was born in Spokane on March 25, 1912 to Frank V. and Nora (Holmes) Hurley. She moved to Whatcom County when she married her husband Frank Scott in Bellingham in 1951. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Sumas. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1985 and is survived by sons Myron Dolby of Aloha, Ore. and Jack McLain of Montana; her daughter, Joanne DeLaune of Newhalem; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Services and arrangements are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

SCOTT, Mary Elizabeth, age 49, 2817 Broadway, passed away Tuesday, December 22, (1964). Mrs. Scott was a forty-one year resident of this city, and attended the Congregational Church. SCOTT, Ora B. - Funeral services for Ora B. Scott, 82 of 2379 Stickney Island Road, Everson were held in Veroske Jerns Funeral Chapel Friday, March 23 with Rev. Carlton Peterson officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. She died in a Bellingham hospital March 20, (1979). Mrs. Scott was born in Advent, Mo. April 8, 1896 and came with her family to Lind, Wash. in 1902. After a short stay there they came to Ferndale and she had resided in Whatcom County since. She is survived by her husband, Russell, two sons, Robert of Everson and Don of Sedro Woolley, four daughters, Iris Hall and Lois Swenson of Bellingham; Donna Daniels and Dolores Forthun of Everson. There are 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

SCOTT, Robert E., 49, 7928 Apache Drive, Sumas, died Monday (Dec. 23, 1985) in a Bellingham nursing home. Born May 9, 1936, in Bellingham, he was a lifelong resident of Whatcom County. He was an avid fisherman and mountaineer, and worked as a logger and heavy equipment operator for Wilder Construction Co. and Intalco Aluminum Corp. Survivors include four sons, Robert and Randall, both of Sultan, Ed of Bellingham and Keith of Ferndale; three daughters, Debbie Gillies and Cindy O'Conner of Marysville and Karen Tow of Lynnwood; a brother, Don Scott of Sedro-Woolley; four sisters, Donna Daniels of Sumas, Dolores Forthun of Everson and Iris Hall and Lois Swenson of Bellingham; and 10 grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Edgar Starr officiating.

SCOTT, Russell, age 81 of 2379 Stickney Island Road, Everson, passed away Thurs., Dec. 27, 1979. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife Ora. They had lived in the Whatcom county area since 1926. He had been a coal miner in the Bellingham Mines for 25 years and retired as Maintenance Man from the Bellingham School District. SCOTT, Sarah O., age 90 years, 2508 Vallette Street, passed away at a local hospital, Thursday, November 21, (1946) after five days' illness. Mrs. Scott had been a resident of Bellingham for the past twenty years and was formerly a member of the First Presbyterian Church in this city. Beside a host of friends, she leaves to survive, two daughters, Misses Mena and Beulah Scott of the home; one son, Erman Scott, Toledo, Ohio; two nieces and a nephew in Canada; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home, Saturday, November 23, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Robert McFarlane, officiating. Interment in Greenacres Memorial Park.

SCOTT, Solveig (Estle-Goetz) of Bellingham passed on 3/19/91. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA moving to Anchorage, Alaska to work for the weather tracking bureau of the United States Army during World War II. Moving to Bellingham in 1949, she became executive secretary for the Orthopedic Guild, holding this position for twenty-four years. For her devotion to this work a chapter of the Guild was named in her honor. She was very active in the entertainment field such as the Theater Guild, both as an actress and as secretary/treasurer for several years. She was a charter member of the singing group The Silver Bells. A member of the Musicians Union she had her own dance band; was an accomplished pianist and organist. Solveig was also an artist of some repute working in almost all the medias: sculpting, oils, water color, wood carving. She authored an illustrated book in this last media. Last but not least she was very proud of her Norwegian ancestry and valued her membership in the Sons of Norway Lodge dearly. She was a member of the Christian Science Church. Survived by her husband Joseph E. Scott; niece, Barbara Denny of Florida; nephews, Harold Boatrite, of Philadelphia, PA; several step-sons; 1 grand nephew, Douglas Graham, Bellingham. No services will be held.

SCOTT, Thomas Elliott - Private funeral services were held for Thomas Elliott Scott, April 1, at St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. James Blundell officiating. Mr. Scott died Saturday, March 29 at the age of 64. He was born in Denver, Colorado, March 19, 1916, served in the Navy during World War II. Married to Pauline Niles at Deming in 1942. The Scotts lived in Deming while he attended Western Washington State College. He received his master's degree in psychology from the University of Washington in 1952. He had retired after more than 20 years service with the state as the Director of Education for Juvenile Institutions. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, Olympia; two daughters, Miss Lynnila Scott, Portland, and Mrs. Judith Ann Judy, Underwood, Wa.; a brother, Melvin Scott, Lexington, Ky., and four grandchildren.

SCOTT, Thomas Gerald, 53, of 5975 Lake Terrell Road, Ferndale, died Tuesday May 9 after a short illness. Mr. Scott had been a resident of Ferndale for seven years and had previously lived in Yakima most of his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Elsie M., one daughter, Miss Jennifer L. Scott, at home, one son, Larry, of Selah, several sisters and brothers in the Yakima area, and one granddaughter. Cremation services will be held under the direction of Moles Funeral Home. He was the director of the Lake Terrell Game Range.

SCOTT, Vernon Rathbone, age 71 passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, (1980) in Everett. He was a resident of Everett, formerly of B'ham. He belonged to South County Exchange Club, Crystal Lodge No. 122 F&AM in Marysville. He was retired from General Telephone of Everett. He is survived by his wife Erma, of the family home in Everett, 1 daughter, Mrs. Don (Sandra) LaMontagne of Seattle, 1 sister, Mrs. Hal (Marjorie) Norris of Spokane. Grandchildren, Juli, Lynn, Merrilee, Marlee, December, June, Donnie. Funeral services are Thursday, 11 a.m. at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, Everett with graveside services at 2:30 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale.

SCOTT, Walter H., age 85, formerly of 506 13th St., passed away in a local nursing home Fri., Feb. 2, 1979. He had been a lifetime resident of B'ham. He was a retired commercial fisherman. He leaves to survive his wife, Lillian of B'ham. 2 brothers; Rex J. Scott & Frank W. Scott both of Whatcom Co. Numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held Mon. Feb. 5th at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Veroske Jerns Funeral Home. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.

SCOTT, Walter L., age 74, of 8252 Skeena Way, Blaine, passed away in a Blaine nursing home Tues. Dec. 17, 1985. He had been a resident of Birch Bay for the past 5 years and was a retired executive of Chrysler Corporation. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Detroit Lodge No. 2 F&AM and of the Shrine Moslem Temple in Detroit and the Shrine & Elks Lodge in Oregon. He leaves to survive his wife, Sharon of Birch Bay; a daughter, Renne McQuade of Birch Bay; 1 sons, Dale Scott of Calif.; 2 sisters, Alice Forsythe of Florida, Mary Petersen of Pennsylvania; 3 grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. SCOTT, William, age 53, of Beach Star Route, passed away Sunday morning, May 7, (1950) following an accident. Mr. Scott was a member of the Seventh Day Advent Church. Surviving relatives include his wife, Edna; three sons, Benjamin Hillaire, Bert Hillaire and Reuben Hillaire and three daughters, Miss Mary Hillaire and Miss Pauline Hillaire and Mrs. Edna Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at the Monroe Mortuary Wednesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. with Elder Winders officiating. Interment in the cemetery at Lummi.

SCOTT, William G. "Scotty" age 71, of 3011 Alderwood Ave., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, November 14, (1953). Mr. Scott had resided in this community for the past 33 years, and was a retired truck driver for Schafer's Baking Co. He attended the Presbyterian Church, and was a member of Whatcom Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M., and the Maple Leaf Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Jane Scott at the family home; a son, Walter W. Scott at Roseburg, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Hobart of Seattle; a granddaughter, Renee Scott in Ireland; two sisters: Mrs. Eva McConnell in Ireland, and Mrs. Margaret Beattie in Scotland; and a number of nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Penhalurick and officers of Whatcom Lodge No. 151, Monday, November 16, at 1:00 p.m. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.

SCOTT, William H. O., age 66, of 518 Everglade Rd., passed away Sun. April 23, 1989 at Squalicum Lake. Born Oct. 20, 1922, he was the retired Documents Librarian from W.W.U. He was past president of the A.C.L.U. of Whatcom co.; Treasurer of the NAACP of Whatcom Co., and a member of American Association of University Professors; American Library Association; Beta Phi Mu; International Library Science Honorary Society; Pacific Northwest Library Association; Washington Association & a retired member of the Documents Librarian of Washington. He was also active in the Democratic Party; was a graduate of the University of Michigan. He leaves to survive his wife Edith Scott of the family home; 2 sons, William A. Scott of Seattle and Timothy J. Scott of Bellingham; 3 daughters, Anna Avalon, Bellingham, Martha Scott, Nelson, B.C. & Cynthia Carter of Nelson, B.C.; 3 grandchildren; brother Douglas Scott of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Phyllis Ludwig of Florida. Services will be held Wed. April 26th at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Fellowship, 1708 I St., Rev. Francis Day officiating. Arrangements through the Westford Funeral Home.

SCOTT, Zelia Diane, of 4429 Cable St. B'ham, age 37, passed away Sat. June 3, 1978. Surviving are her husband George, 1 son Richard, a daughter Robynn, 2 brothers, Bert Aylward of Waitsburg, Dan Aylward of San Francisco, and her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Marvin Aylward of Waitsburg. Services will be Tues. June 6, at 2:30 p.m. in Veroskes Bellingham Chapel with Doctor Marvin Olmstead officiating.

SCOTT-HAMILTON, Justin Wayne, passed away November 14, 2001. He was born February 6, 1980, in Bellingham to Rick Hamilton and Marcy Scott Hamilton Creviston. He is survived by his father, Rick and stepmother Marsha; his mother Marcy; grandparents, Gordon an Mavis Scott and Sheila and Lloyd Wilson; great-grandmothers, Lucy Hamilton and Nora Ellis; brother Ryan and fiancé Rachael; nephew Daniel Jeffrey; step-brothers, Karl Nichols and Robert Foster; and many many aunts, uncles and cousins. His great grandfathers Val Ellis and Don Hamilton Sr., and His grandfather David Hamilton preceded him in death. Justin enjoyed snowboarding, skateboarding, BMX riding and driving his car. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2001, at the Deming Log Show Hall. The arrangements and services are by Jerns Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Bellingham.

SCOTT-HUNTER, Jeremy "Jay" of Bellingham died after the fishing vessel, the Lady of Good Voyage, went down in the Bering Sea. He was 37. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at Bellingham Theater Guild Playhouse, at H and Dupont streets. He was born July 12, 1955, in Clayton, Yorkshire, England. He attended Victor Laudorum Chad Acre Agricultural Collage in Sussok, where he was an avid rugby player and won the all-around sports award. He worked for many years as an agricultural consultant and started a farming program in Saudi Arabia. A skilled horseman, he rode with Andrew Nikolson, a member of the New Zealand Olympic eventing team. He and his wife Christina were married last October in Colchester, England. Mr. Scott-Hunter enjoyed traveling, studying and working with diverse cultures throughout the world. He is survived by his wife of the family home; daughter Emma Jame (sic) Scott-Hunter of New Zealand; parents William George Hunter and Sheila White-Hunter of Colchester, England; sister Cynthia Scott-Sowter of England; brother Timothy Scott-Hunter of Hungary; and three stepchildren, Brianna, Holly and Matthew, all of Bellingham.

SCOUGALE, Grace B., age 70, of Rt. 5, Everett, passed away at her home Saturday, April 23, (1955) following a brief illness. Mr[s]. Scougale had been a resident of Everett for the past 11 years and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. A. Leettola, Everett; one son, Ray Scougale of Ferndale; two brothers, Homer Jones of Seattle, and Clarence Jones of Port Angeles; two grandchildren, Kathleen and James Leettola of Everett. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m. from the Solie Funeral Home in Everett, under the direction of the Monroe Funeral Home of Ferndale. Interment, Evergreen Cemetery.

SCOWCROFT, Myra Applegate died Thursday, June 3, 1993, at her home at 59 Strawberry Point. She was 82. No services will be held. Cremation [under] the direction of Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel and Crematorium. She was born March 25, 1911, in Vancouver, B.C., to Douglas and Mary Applegate. She spent much of her youth in Anacortes, and graduated from Mount Vernon Junior College, now Skagit Valley College. She was the great-great-grandniece of Lynden pioneer Phoebe Goodell Judson. In 1935, she married architect Edward Scowcroft in Seattle. They lived in Billings, Mont., San Francisco and Reno, Nev., before returning to this area in 1980. She worked in the Bellingham garden shop of Schwiesow and Drillias Landscape and Design from 1989 to January of this year. Mrs. Scowcroft was preceded in death by her husband in 1988 and by her father in 1966. Survivors include daughter Stephanie Feeney of Bellingham; sons Jeffry Scott Scowcroft of Seattle and Jock Scowcroft of Truckee, Calif.; and one grandson.
