He is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Violet & husband Clarence Kenoyer of Bellingham, Doree & husband Stan Beever of Bellevue; uncle, Arthur Guenther of Spokane; 3 nieces & 3 nephews. She leaves to survive her husband Clayton L. of the family home; 3 sisters, Mrs. Dorie Beaver of Bellevue, Mrs. Julia Brown and Mrs. Violet Kenoyer both of this city; several nieces & nephews. SCHOENBERGER, Tay M., age 84, 1503 J St., passed away in a local sanitarium Tuesday, June 22, (1965). Mrs. Schoenberger had resided in Bellingham for the past 42 years and leaves to survive her husband, Charles H., of the family home; 1 son, Clayton of the city. SCHOENING, August Gustav, age 78 of 1512 Ellis Street, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, Dec. 17, (1961). Mr. Schoening was a retired dairy farmer, and had resided in Bellingham the past seven years. Survivors are his widow, Susie, at home; three sons, William C., Seattle; John S., Jacksonville, Florida; Otis C., Wenatchee; four daughters, Mrs. Julia Della, Seattle; Mrs. Katherine Fishbourne, Manson; Mrs. Mary Lind, Seattle; Mrs. Minnie Froehlich, Lakewood, California, and seventeen grandchildren. The remains rest at Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Dr. Stuart Benson on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Bay View Cemetery.

SCHOENING, Viola L., age 51 of 1856 Governor Rd., passed away in a local hospital Friday, Dec. 27, (1974). A lifetime resident of Bellingham she had been employed for the past 6 years as an identification clerk at the Bellingham Police Dept. She was a member of the Maple Leaf Chapter OES. Surviving are her husband, John; 1 son, John Stuart Schoening both at home; a daughter, Marily Griffin of Atascadero, Calif.; her father, John Fleck of Alger; 3 brothers, Eugene Fleck of San Jose, Calif., Leroy Fleck of San Diego and Alexander Fleck of Bellingham; 2 sisters, Rosalie Funk of Bellingham, Faye Fleck of Port Angeles; also 2 grandchildren, Leann and Tyson Griffin both in Calif. Funeral services will be held at Veroske's Bellingham Chapel Monday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Guderian officiating, assisted by Maple Leaf Chapter No. 58 OES. SCHOENMAKERS, Casey Jacobis - Visitation for Casey Jacobis Schoenmakers of Ferndale will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Moles Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ferndale with the Rev. Tim Sauer officiating. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Schoenmakers died at home Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997. He was 77. Born March 17, 1919, to Jacobis and Ann Schoenmakers in Seattle, he married Margaret Victoria Land in 1950. Mr. Schoenmakers served in World War II in New Guinea. He retired as manager of engineering at General Electric in Seattle, and in 1981 moved from Issaquah to Whatcom County. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994. Survivors include daughters Jo Anne Palmer of Bellingham, Barbara Larsen of Redmond and Claudia Hill of Ferndale; son Larry Schoenmakers of Ferndale; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives.
SCHOENMAKERS, Margaret V., 68, of 2147 Jensen St., Ferndale, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 1994, in Bellingham. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Moles Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday At St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ferndale with the Rev. Brian J. McGovern officiating. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. Schoenmakers was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Seattle to Hazel and Lawrence Land, and had lived in Whatcom County for 12 years. She married Casey Schoenmakers on April 15, 1950. Survivors include her husband of the family home; daughters Claudia Hill of Ferndale, JoAnn Palmer of Bellingham and Barbara Larsen of Redmond; son Larry Schoenmakers of Ferndale; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. SCHOESLER, Jason H. - Former Bellingham resident Jason H. Schoesler, 27, died in a motorcycle accident Friday (Jan. 29, 1988) in Tualatin, Ore. Mr. Schoesler was born April 6, 1960, in Spokane and graduated from high school in Pullman before moving to Bellingham in 1978. He attended Bellingham Vocational School for three years. He moved to Hermiston, Ore., in 1981 and lived in Portland until his death. He was a welder and pipefitter, and he enjoyed scuba diving and snow skiing. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Irene and Bob Rome of Bellingham; his father, Ron Schoesler of Hermiston, Ore.; and two sisters, Karen Jackson of Houston, Texas, and Jill Bogle of Tigard, Ore. Arrangements are by Young's Funeral Home, Tigard, Ore.
SCHOESSLER, Doris C., age 88, of 9279 Weidkamp Road, Lynden, WA, died Thurs. October 14, 1993 at St. Joseph Hospital as a result of an automobile accident. She was born August 5, 1905 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin to Thomas and Julia Werachowski. Doris graduated from Assumption Grade School and from Bellingham High School. She was Queen of the Tulip Festival one year in Bellingham; worked for Seattle First Federal for 48 years, starting as a teller and retired as an Estate Planner in the Trust Dept. Doris married George Schoessler in Bellingham. She was a member of The Hill Crest Senior Dance Club, The Black Angus Cattle Assoc. and she enjoyed gardening. Survived by her husband, George Schoessler of the family home; a brother-in-law, David Schoessler of the family home; a sister-in-law, Mary Haynes; and numerous nephews and nieces. Services will be held at Westford Funeral Home Chapel, 1:30 p.m. Thursday October 21, 1993 with Fr. Gary Southerton officiating. Arrangements by Westford Funeral Home.
SCHOESSLER, George, Jr., 86, formerly of Lynden, died June 13, 1994 at Bayside Health Center. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1907 to George and Anna Marie Schoessler. George moved to Fort Collins, Colo. at age 9 months to Michigan, and then to Washington. He attended Ritzville High School and business college in Spokane. He worked as a wheat farmer in the Ritzville area and as a carpenter building a tunnel in Whittier, Alaska. In 1943 he bought a farm in Lynden, where he raised registered Black Angus cattle. On Nov. 9, 1951, George married Doris Wanamaker and they made their home on the Weidkamp Road. He enjoyed senior dances and was a life member of the Elks Club. George was preceded in death by his wife Doris. He is survived by brother David Schoessler of Yakima; sister Mary Haynes of Bellingham; three nieces and one nephew. Services were held Friday at Westford Funeral Home in Bellingham. Arrangements were made by Westford Funeral Home.
SCHOESSLER, Mary, 71, of 2423 Eldridge, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, Oct. 30, (1957). Mrs. Schoessler had been a resident of this community the past 20 years and was a member of the Lutheran Church. Surviving relatives include the husband, George at the family home; two sons, George Jr. of Bellingham, and Dave in Yakima; a daughter, Mrs. May Haynes of Bellingham; four grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Catherine M. Benner of Billings, Mont.; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Kister of Billings, Mont., and Mrs. John Speidel of Ephrata, and two brothers, Henry Benner of Columbia Falls, Mont., and Chris Benner of Spokane. SCHOFIELD, Frederick B., age 70 years, of Lynden, Route 1, passed away Monday, December 16, (1946) following a short illness. He had been a resident of the Lynden district for the past twenty years. He is survived by his wife, Ivadell; two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Denison, of Seattle, and Mrs. Riley Mellot, of Mount Vernon; four sons, H. D. of the U.S. Navy at Long Beach California, A. T. and W. H., of Port Huron, Mich., R. W., of Hazel Park, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. W. B. Howland, Fargo, North Dakota; twelve grandchildren. SCHOFIELD, Hosea B., age 63 years, passed away at his home, 2814 Willis Street, Wednesday, February 14, (1945). Mr. Schofield had resided here the past seventeen years and was in the employ of the Bloedel Donovan Lumber Mills. Deceased was a member of the Sawmill Workers' Union No. 2667. Surviving relatives are the widow, Delta, at home; two daughters, Bertha Gardner and Bernice Unick, of this city; three sons, Floyd, U.S. Army, Earl, U.S. Army Air Corps; one sister, Irene Schofield, Seattle and six grandchildren. SCHOLTEN, Beverly Jean, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Scholten, Rt. No. 1, Everson, passed away following birth Sunday, July 17, (1960). Surviving besides her parents are one brother, Steven Carl and one sister, Joan Elaine, both at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Garzeman of Santa Ana, California; also her great-grandmother, Mrs. Henrietta Garzeman of Santa Ana, California. Graveside funeral services will be held in the Monumenta Cemetery Wednesday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.
SCHOLTEN, Catherina Koole, age 91, of 33433 Marshall Rd., Abbotsford, B.C. (The Ebenezer Home), died Dec. 20, 1982 in the M.S.A. General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. in the Monarch Reformed Church of Monarch, Alberta with Rev. E. R. Doyle officiating. Burial followed in the Monarch Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Bros. Funeral Home. A memorial funeral service was also held Thursday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Bethel Reformed Church of Abbotsford. Local funeral arrangements were handled by Henderson's Funeral Home of Abbotsford. Mrs. Scholten is survived by: three sons, John Koole of Lethbridge, Alta., Bastian Koole of Quincy, Wa. and Leonard Koole of Burnaby, B.C.; three daughters, Ingetta Hooft of Huntington, B.C., Rika Patton of Innisfail, Alta. and Catherine Lankhaar of Quincy; one step-son, Henry Scholten of Everson; one step-daughter, Gertrude Van Mersbergen of Birch Bay; one sister, Rika de Beeld of Abbotsford; one brother, Albert Huisman of Lethbridge; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: three husbands, Bastian Koole, Leonard Koole and Bert Scholten; one son, Arie; and one daughter, Rika.
SCHOLTEN, Dean R. - Funeral services for Dean R. Scholten, age 22, will be conducted by Rev. Paul Beveridge of Word of Life Church on Thursday, May 28, at 1 p.m. in First Christian Reformed Church of Lynden. Burial will follow in Monumenta Cemetery. Dean, of 8508 Van Buren Rd., Everson, was born in Bellingham on Feb. 24, 1965, and died in a Seattle hospital on Sunday, May 24, 1987. He was a life time county resident and graduated from Nooksack Valley High School in 1984. He also was a member of First Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by his parents, John and Magdaline Scholten; three brothers, LeRoy and wife Sharleen of Ferndale; Donald and wife June and Jerry and wife Karen, all of Everson; three sisters, Mrs. Betty and husband Bob Van Dyken, Mrs. Evelyn and husband Terry Lautenbach and Mrs. Eileen and husband Scott Van Dalen, all of Lynden; and numerous other relatives. She is survived by her husband, Hein; 4 sons, John, Bastian and William of Everson; Evert of Lynden; a daughter, Mrs. Herman Heeringa of Lynden; 27 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Scholten had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 23 years. He is survived by his wife, Martha; eight daughters, Mrs. Richard Van Heuvelen, Mrs. Henrietta Gertzen, Mrs. Ralph Romberg, Mrs. Dave Douma, all of Lynden; Mrs. Ted Weirauck, of Bellingham; Mrs. Henry Romberg, of Paramount, Calif.; Mrs. Wesley Franklin, Sedro Woolley; Mrs. Kenneth Balzer, Concrete; one son, Cornelius DeBondt; two sisters, Mrs. C. Berendson and Mrs. G. J. Jensen, both of Lynden; four brothers, Joe, William, Hein and Bert W., all of Lynden; 30 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 4, at 2:00 p.m. within the Monroe Funeral Chapel in Ferndale. Interment, Greenacres Memorial Park.
SCHOLTEN, Gertrude B., formerly of the Heritage Apartments in Lynden, passed away in the Christian Rest Home on Friday, August 17, 1990. She was 83. A memorial funeral service was held on Monday, August 20, in First Christian Reformed Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Philip Kok officiating. Burial preceded in Monumenta Cemetery. Miss Scholten was born on June 7, 1907, in the Netherlands and came to the United States in 1913 and to Washington in 1927. She was one of 10 children born to William K. and Johanna (Arendsen) Scholten. She worked at one time at Whatcom Laundry. Gertrude was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and belonged to several women's groups at the church. She is survived by her three brothers, Everett Scholten of Lynden, Bill Scholten of Yuma, Ariz., and Henry Scholten of Lynden; six sisters, Alice Bajema, Betty DeKubber, Hattie Kortlever, Lena Blankers, Johanna Enfield and Bertha Bosman, all of Lynden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.
SCHOLTEN, Hank, 2908 Massey Rd., Everson, age 50, died Saturday, July 11, 1987. He was a construction worker, a Korean War veteran, and a member of Nooksack Advent Christian Church and the Full Gospel Businessmen's Association. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, one son, Kenneth of Everson; three daughters, Terri and husband Mark Maas of Lynden, Michelle and husband Bill Miller of San Angelo, Texas, and Kathy Scholten at home; one grandson, Travis Maas of Lynden; one sister, Gert and husband Wilmer Van Mersbergen of Lynden, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Ruth Glass of Everson. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at Nooksack Advent Christian Church, with Pastor Alan Shore officiating. SCHOLTEN, Johanna A. - Funeral services for Mrs. Johanna A. Scholten, age 99, who died in Lynden on Monday, April 16, (1984) were conducted on Wednesday, April 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Jacob Dykstra officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mrs. Scholten, formerly of 206 Nooksack Ave., Lynden, was born in The Netherlands on June 25, 1884 and came to America in 1913. In 1927 she moved to the Lynden area from Minnesota and was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. She was married to her husband William in Holland on May 8, 1906; Mr. Scholten died in 1974. She is survived by three sons, Everett and wife Johanna, and Henry and wife Dorothy, all of Lynden, and William and wife Marian of Yuma, Arizona; seven daughters, Gertrude B. Scholten, Alice Bajema, Betty DeKubber, Mrs. Hattie and husband Carl Kortlever, Mrs. Lena and husband Bertus Blankers, Mrs. Johannah and husband Pete Enfield, and Mrs. Bertha and husband Jim Bosman, all of Lynden; 35 grand; 33 great-grand and ten great-great-grandchildren. SCHOLTEN, Johanna "Jo" age 75, 205 LaVilla Drive, Lynden, passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 30, 1991. The daughter of Gerrit and Dena (Meenderinck) Bierlink, Mrs. Scholten was born in Lynden on February 20, 1916 and had been a life-time Lynden resident. On May 7, 1936 she was married to her husband Everett in Lynden and for many years was employed as a cook at various Lynden restaurants before retiring in 1976. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed spending the winter months in Quartzsite, Arizona for the past sixteen years. She is survived by her husband Everett of the family home; sons, Ron Scholten and wife Jane of Lynden and Doug Scholten and wife Jan of Bellingham; daughters, Mrs. Dee and husband Herb Advocaat of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mrs. Kathy and husband Hank Poortinga of Bellingham; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Fred Bierlink and wife Alice of Sunnyside, Wa; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude and husband Andrew Visser of Burlington and numerous other relatives. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Nancy Bennink in 1956. Memorial funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 3, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Philip Kok officiating. Burial will precede in Monumenta Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Visitation hours will be until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.
SCHOLTEN, Tillie M., age 53 years, of Route 1, Everson, passed away at her home Monday, July 7th, (1952) following a lingering illness. She had been a resident of the Lynden district for the past 23 years. Mrs. Scholten is survived by her husband, Bert; one daughter, Gertrude; one son, Hendrick, all at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Vermeulen, of Lynden; two sisters, Mrs. Gerrit Jansen and Mrs. Ed Van Beek, both of Lynden; two brothers, Gerrit Vermeulen, of Lynden, and Casey Vermeulen, of Portland. SCHOLTZ, Charles, age 71, of Van Zandt, drowned near Van Zandt Monday, April 16, (1951). He had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 40 years and was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Bellingham. Surviving relatives include his wife, Emily; four daughters, Mrs. Lillian Jefferson and Mrs. Elizabeth Toby, both of Marietta, Mrs. Joanna Warner, of Seattle, and Mrs. Agnes Woodruff, of Beach Star Route; a son, Solomon, also of Beach Star Route; eight grandchildren. Services will be conducted within the Chapel of the Monroe Mortuary in Ferndale Friday, April 27, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Welty Wolfe officiating. Interment in the Lummi Cemetery.
SCHOLZ, Kurt Peter, 79, died Monday at Stafholt Nursing Home in Blaine. Services are pending. Mr. Scholz, of 264 H St., Blaine, was born May 20, 1911, in Berlin, Germany. He moved to Canada in 1960. He also lived in Arizona before moving to Blaine last February. He married Elizabeth Scharf, who has died. He worked as a designer and draftsman for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Survivors include his son Peter "Mike" Sholz (sic) of South Surrey, B.C.; brother Alfred Sholz of German; sister Fridel Heinzel of Germany; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. SCHOLZ, Paul D., 55, formerly of Bellingham, presently of Iowa City, IA, died Sunday (October 18, 1992) of cancer at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 22, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, the Rev. Dick Watkins and the Rev. John Calhoun officiating. Donohue Lansing Funeral Service in Iowa City is in charge of arrangements. Dr. Scholz was born November 11, 1936 in Sedro Woolley, WA, the son of Theodore and Vivian Drummond Scholz. He graduated from Bellingham High School in Bellingham, WA in 1954. He married Margaret Barhyte on July 29, 1961 in Portland, OR. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington in 1960, his Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University in 1965, and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Astronautical Sciences from Northwestern University in 1967. Dr. Scholz was Assoc. Dean and Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Iowa and had served as Interim Dean from mid-June until mid-September of this year. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Sigma XI honor societies. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Dr. Scholz was also a member of the American Assoc. for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Engineering Education, and the American Society for Mechanical Engineers, and was a faculty advisor for the Iowa Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. He was a member of the Board of Directors and University of Iowa Representative for the Midwest University Energy Consortium. Dr. Scholz was a National Science Foundation Center Evaluator for the University of Iowa Center for Simulation and design Optimization. Survivors include his wife Peggy; his mother, Vivian of Bellingham, WA; 2 sons, Peter of Santa Fe, NM, David (Jill) of Des Moines.
SCHOLZ, Theodore Paul, age 76, of 2517 Cornwall Ave., Bellingham, passed away Sat. June 9, 1984. Born Feb. 24, 1908, in Startup, Wash., he was a licensed Professional Engineer and came to Whatcom County in August, 1940 as Superintendent and Designing Engineer for the Bellingham Airport. After WWII he served 3 years as County Engineer, 8 years as Bellingham City Engineer before joining Eiford Construction Co. He retired July 1, 1975, after serving 14 years as Port Engineer. He leaves to survive his wife Vivian; a son, Paul of Iowa City, Iowa and son Steven of Edmonds, Wash.; grandsons, Peter and David Scholz of Iowa City and granddaughters Ashley, Nancee, Stacie and Rebeka Scholz of Edmonds, Wash. Also a sister, Johanna Jensen of Athens, Ohio, niece Florence Carranza of Okanogan, Wash., nephews Chris and Eric Jensen of Athens, Ohio. He was a Past Commander and one of the founding fathers of the Bellingham Power Squadron. He was a member of the Bellingham Yacht Club and owner of the yacht Alouette for 29 years. Cremation will be under the direction of Jones Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 2401 Cornwall Ave., Tues. June 12 at 1 p.m.
SCHOMBERG, Albert H., age 67, of Spokane, passed away in Spokane Sunday, March 24th, (1963). Mr. Schomberg had formerly been superintendent of the Carnation Co. in Ferndale for many years. He is survived by his wife, Hannah; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Skollern of Portland and Mrs. Caroline Dunsmorr (sic) of Spokane; six grandchildren. The remains will lie in state at the Moles Funeral Home on Thursday, March 28th, from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Mr. Schonberger was a retired Biology Professor at Moorpark College. He had been a resident of B'ham. for the past 2 1/2 months. He was the author of a Laboratory Manual of General Biology in 1962, 3rd edition in 1972 and Trees of California in 1973. He also did research on Air-borne Pollens and Ornamental Aquatic plants. Following retirement he acted as a consulting biologist. SCHONING, William Frederick, age 84 years, of Maple Falls, passed away at a local hospital July 5, (1951). SCHOOLS, Ronald S. "Casper" of Bellingham died Wednesday, March 2, 1994. He was 31. A celebration was held Friday to honor his memory. Born Dec. 3, 1962, in Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. Schools lived in Bellingham the past decade. A disabled veteran, he enjoyed traveling and making people laugh with his outrageous sense of humor. SCHOTT, Ruth Angel - A memorial service for Ruth Angel Schott of Bellingham will be at 2 p.m. April 5 at Geneva Community Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Schott died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, in Bellingham. She was 100. Born June 17, 1896, in Pittsburgh, she was raised in Brewster, Ohio, and lived in Columbus for many years. Mrs. Schott lived in Phoenix from 1976 to 1980 and moved to Bellingham in 1982. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond G. Schott, son Raymond Schott Jr. and daughter Miriam Keen. Survivors include sister Adeline York of Glendale, Ariz., four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
SCHOU, Augie - Former Bellingham bricklayer Augie Schou, 85, died Friday, March 27, 1992, in the Washington Soldiers Home at Orting. He was born March 17, 1907, in Nibe, Denmark, to Carl and Mathea Schou. He became a United States citizen in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Schou came to Bellingham from Iowa in 1947. He was a member of the Bricklayers Union in Bellingham from 1947 to 1982, serving as business agent from 1972 to 1982. He served as second vice president of the Washington-Oregon Bricklayers Union from 1978 through 1982. Mr. Schou was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 194 and a charter member of the American Contract Bridge League 443. He won awards in Washington and Oregon in 1947 for trap shooting. Survivors include his sister Karen Tiengshedt of Denmark; a nephew Jorn Dyerberg, also of Denmark; and his dear friend Janie Pickard of Shelton. A memorial service was at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting. Randle Larson officiated. Mr. Schou's ashes will be place in Woodlawn Cemetery. SCHOUTEN, Alyda M. - Funeral services for Mrs. Alyda M. Schouten, age 78, who died in Lynden on Saturday, October 15, (1983) were conducted on Wednesday, October 19, at 2:15 p.m. in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Ken Havert officiating. Graveside services preceded at 1:30 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery. Mrs. Schouten, of 513 North 14th Street, Lynden, was born on October 10, 1905 and had been a lifetime Lynden resident. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church and was married to her husband Arie in Lynden on June 7, 1933. She is survived by her husband Arie; five sons, Hilbert and wife Myra of Tucson, Arizona, Marion and wife Marcia, John and wife Jane and Arlo and wife Charlotte, all of Lynden and Clair and wife Corrie of Everson; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Mae and husband Ron Ferguson of Lynden, Mrs. Audrey and husband Vern McCauley of Bothell and Mrs. Alyda and husband Duane Dykstra of Sumas; twenty-one grandchildren and a great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.
SCHOUTEN, Anthony - Funeral services for Anthony "Tony" Schouten of Lynden will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Second Christian Reformed Church in Lynden. The Rev. Tom Haan will officiate. Burial will precede at 1:15 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Schouten died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Bellingham at age 75. Visitation will be today from 1 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to noon at Gillies Funeral Home. Mr. Schouten, a lifelong Whatcom County resident, was the son of Arie and Anna (Bovenkamp) Schouten Sr., and was born in Lynden on March 30, 1924. He married Wilma Morgan in Lynden on Aug. 4, 1943. Mr. Schouten worked for LDS Feed Store for 39 years and operated a dairy farm on East Badger Road. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 231. He enjoyed volunteering at the Hope Office, Project Phillip and the Lighthouse Mission. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing baseball. Mr. Schouten is survived by his wife sons Eldon Schouten and Marlo Schouten of Bellingham and Karl Schouten of Lynden daughter Linda Broers of Lake Stevens brothers Marinus Schouten of Everson and Bill Schouten of Blaine 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Jerry, Arnold and Dick Schouten two brothers, Carl and Arie Schouten Jr., and sister Gertie Honcoop. Arrangements are by Gilles Funeral Home of Lynden.
SCHOUTEN, Arie, 410 Cascade Way, Lynden, died suddenly while enjoying his hobby of cutting wood on Thursday, April 22, 1993. He was 84. Born in The Netherlands on Sept. 29, 1908, Arie was the son of Arie and Ann (Bovenkamp) Schouten and shortly after moved with his family to Issaquah and then to Lynden in 1913. On June 7, 1933 he was married to Alyda Kok; she passed away in 1983. Mr. Schouten operated a dairy farm and was also the Massey-Ferguson implement dealer in Lynden. After selling the dealership he was a building contractor until his retirement. On Oct. 20, 1984 he was married to Matilda Hoving. He was a charter member and former elder and deacon of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Lynden. He helped build the church in 1952 and currently the leader of the Men's Society of the church. He was active in the Bellingham Camp of Gideons International and the One to One Prison Ministry. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and woodworking and had made and donated numerous article to the Lynden Christian Mother's Club. He is survived by his wife, Matilda of the family home; five sons, Hilbert Schouten and wife Myra of Tucson, Ariz., Marion Schouten and wife Marcia of Lynden, Clair Schouten and wife Corrie of Everson, John Schouten and wife Janie of Lynden and Arlo Schouten and wife Charlotte of Lynden; three daughters, Anna Mae and husband Ron Ferguson of Lynden, Audrey and husband Vern McCauley of Everett and Alyda and husband Duane Dykstra of Sumas; 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Nick Hoving Jr. of Enumclaw and Bill Hoving and wife Shirley of Kalispell, Mont.; stepdaughters Darlene and husband Al Mulder of Bellingham, Ruth VanderLinden of Hemet, Calif. and Pat and husband John Kent of Moses Lake; nine step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Marinus Schouten of Everson, Anthony Schouten of Lynden and Bill Schouten of Blaine; brother-in-law Phil VanWeerdhuizen of Lynden; sister-in-law Sue Schouten of Lynden; and numerous other relatives. He was also preceded by a son Adrian; daughters Anna and Jane; brother Carl Schouten; sister Gertrude Honcoop; and numerous other relatives. Memorial funeral services were conducted today in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Jerry VanGroningen officiating. Burial preceded in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden. Services wre under the care of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.

SCHOUTEN, Arnold G., age 19, Route 1 Everson, passed away suddenly near Carnation Thursday, January 27, (1966). A lifetime resident of the Everson-Lynden area he graduated from the Lynden Christian High School in 1961. He was a member of the Everson Christian Reformed Church. Surviving are his parents Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Schouten of Everson. Four brothers Eldon, Route 1, Custer, Dick, Carl and Mario all at home; a sister, Linda at home. Maternal grandmother Mrs. Bessie Morgan of Lynden. Funeral services will be held at the Everson Christian Reformed Church Monday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Henry Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynden Cemetery under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home.
SCHOUTEN, Carl D. - Longtime Whatcom County resident Carl D. Schouten of Lynden passed away at St. Joseph Hospital Main Campus on Dec. 9, 1991. He was 80 years old. Mr. Schouten was born in Issaquah on Aug. 28, 1911, a son of Arie and Anna Schouten. He grew up in Whatcom County. He was employed primarily as a dairy farmer on the Emerson Road near Everson and worked at other various occupations until retirement. He was a member and former elder of First Christian Reformed Church in Lynden and former member and elder of Everson Christian Reformed Church. In Lynden on Oct. 31, 1931 he was married to Susie VanDalen and she survives her husband at the family home. Other survivors include three daughters, Ann Korevaar and husband Arlo of Everson, Caroline Lagerwey and husband Matt of Everson and Arlene Johnson of Woodinville; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers Arie Schouten of Lynden, Marinus Schouten of Everson, Anthony Schouten of Lynden and William "Bill" Schouten of Blaine. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gert Honcoop. Funeral services were held Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Lynden with Rev. Philip Kok officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

SCHOW, Kenneth N., age 83, of 4634 Guide Meridian, passed away in a local hospital Wed., May 5, (1976). He had been a resident of Bellingham since 1937 and was a retired coal miner and shipyard worker. Surviving are his wife, Ethel; one son, Verden both of Bellingham; three daughters, Velma Spoto of Bellingham, Lucille Deppler of Idaho and Ardell Spute of Lacey; one brother, Tom of Utah; two sisters, Mary Crookston in Nevada, Letha Smyth in Utah; also 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held in Veroske's Bellingham Chapel, Friday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m.
