McABEE, Robert R. - A gathering for Robert R. McAbee of 713 Kelly Road will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bellingham Congregational Church upper social hall. Mr. McAbee died at home Friday, May 23, 1997. He was 71. Born Jan. 19, 1926, to Lenore and Earl McAbee in Seattle, he was a local resident since 1981. He married Patricia Pendleton on Dec. 17, 1949, in Seattle. A graduate of the University of Washington, Mr. McAbee worked as an urban planner. He served in Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia as a Church World Service representative from 1962 to 1964. Mr. McAbee was a member of World Without War Council, Seattle Metropolitan Ministries and American Institute of Planners. A football fan, he also enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl McAbee. Survivors include daughters Melinda McAbee-Lammers of Las Cruces, N.M., and Marilyn Thomas of Seattle, son Timothy McAbee of Bellingham, brother Paul McAbee of Bellingham, sister Kathryn Barr of Freeland, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Whatcom Cremation Association.

McALLASTER, Mildred E., 4419 Loomis Trail Road, Blaine, died Sunday in Bellingham. She was born Nov. 20, 1913, in the state and had lived in Whatcom County most of her life. Survivors include a son, two daughters, nine grandchildren and a sister. At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home and Crematorium.

McALLISTER, Gertrude T., age 92, formerly of 341 Telegraph Rd., passed away Mon. Dec. 30, (1985). Mrs. McAllister had resided in Bellingham for many years, was a retired member of the Culinary & Beverage Workers Union. She had also been a member of American Legion Auxiliary, WWI Barracks, OES and Pythian Sisters. She leaves to survive several grandchildren & several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William in Oct. of 1973 & son Oliver in Nov. 1970. Funeral services will be held Fri. Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Westford Funeral Home.

McCABE, Jack T., 57, went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 3, 1997 at his residence, near Othello, WA. Mr. McCabe is survived by his loving wife, Jane (Green) McCabe of Othello, one son, Flint McCabe of Stanwood, WA, and numerous relatives and friends. McCANN, James, age forty years, passed away at a local hospital Tuesday (Nov. 4, 1941) following a long illness. Mr. McCann had resided here fifteen years and was a member of the Birchwood Presbyterian church and of the Sawmill and Lumber Workers Union NO. 2667. Surviving relatives are his widow, Myrtle; one son, Gene Virgil; and daughter, Betty Ilene, at home, 3100 Birchwood Ave.; his mother, Mrs. Emma McCann, and one sister, Mrs. Robert Rudy, at Eau Claire, Wis.; one brother, Isadore McCann, Culver City, Calif.; five half brothers and one half sister in Wisconsin. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. Samuel H. Smith, Thursday, November 6, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Woodlawn.

McCARTNEY, Paul, age 46 of Bellingham, WA died August 2, 1997 at Bayside Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 30, 1950 in Spring Hill, Louisiana to Lester and Christine (Mackey) McCartney. Paul moved with his family to Indiana as a young child where he attended school, graduating from Garrett High School in 1969. He attended Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas where he met Kaye Cunningham. They were married May 28, 1972 in Ravenden, AR, and moved to Bellingham in 1975. Paul had recentley worked for Current Industries. He enjoyed photography. He was preceded in death by his mother, Christine McCartney in 1982. Paul is survived by his wife, Kaye McCartney of Bellingham; daughter, Christina McCartney, and granddaughters, Jacinda McCartney and Sonja McCartney all of Bellingham; father, Lester McCartney of Garrett, IN; a sister, Christine McCartney of Garrett, IN; brother, James McCartney of Riverside, MI. McCARTHY, Maria "Pat" Theresa, age 88, passed away January 9, 2003 at her Blaine home. Mrs. McCarthy was born in Nanaimo, B.C. and has lived in Whatcom County for 28 years. She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Cole and Kathleen McCarthy both of California. A Service of Remembrance was held Sunday, January 12, 2003, at Birchwood Park for Family and Friends. McCARTNEY, Frieda, 71, of 2821 Williams St., died March 24, 1989 in a local hospital. Born Jan. 21, 1918, she was a lifetime resident of Bellingham. Frieda was a past member of the League of Women Voters and a member of the Bellingham Golf & Country Club since 1955. She is survived by her husband Jack of the family home; sister, Marie Brandt of Bellingham; 2 brothers, Joseph Just of Livermore, CA and Richard Just of Edmonds; numerous nieces & nephews. Graveside services will be held at Bayview Cemetery on Mon. March 27 at 11 a.m.

McCAW, Crystal B. – A funeral service for Crystal Belle (Faust) McCaw of Bellingham will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nazarene Church in Collinsville, Okla. Mrs. McCaw died Friday, March 17, 2000. She was 90. Born June 12, 1909 to Fred T. and Sarah Belle (Mustain) Faust in Springdale, Ariz., she moved with her family to Collinsville. Mrs. McCaw had lived with her daughter in Washington for the past 24 years. She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved cooking and entertaining. She also enjoyed memorizing and reciting poetry and had a passion for attending church regularly. She was preceded in death by her daughter Bertha Mae Miller; first husband, George E. Miller; and second husband Don F. McCaw. Survivors include daughters Mary Cash Gormley of Bellingham and Annabelle Vanaman of Claremore, Okla.; son Paul E. Miller of Owasso, Okla; brother Andy Faust of Bartlesville, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Arrangements are by Jones-Moles Funeral Home.

McCLELLAN, Claude C. - A special one from us is gone. The voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home that never can be filled. Claude C. McClellan passed away in Arlington December 17, 1997. He was born in Princeton, Minn. and was the last survivor of 9 children born to Frank and Cora McClellan. Claude survived a major operation at 18 months, and came west to Bellingham with his mother and 6 siblings at 24 months. Claude was very versatile and had the initiative in the Depression Days of 1931 to jump in and try the unknown. He married Claire E. Kaufman and started a dual partnership - marriage and business - forming McClellan Fuel and Hauling, Inc. He rapidly built his business to a fleet of trucks and a mill through honesty, perseverance and hard work, giving employment to many family members and to WWII servicemen who needed work, and giving many young men an opportunity to get their start in life. Fifty years later, in 1981, he retired and moved to Arlington to be near his loving grandchildren. Claude is survived by his partner and best friend for 66 years, his wife Claire; his beloved daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Stanley; his grandchildren with great-grandchildren Dawn Marie Brown with Jacob and Benjamin; Teresa (Tom) Van Slageren with Stephanie and Charlie; Sharon (Jim) Whittaker with Kaila, Alana, Joseph; Kirt Stanley with Ashli; Genie Chase with Calvin, Ryan and Alison; Bruce (Deborah) Stanley. Even though Claude was not affiliated with a particular church he had a great respect for all of them. He loved God and exclaimed every day on His wonderous handwork - with nature, the mountains and the seashore, sunrise and sunsets. Claude was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Herv, Reed, Jim, George, Roy and Max and 2 sisters, Blanche Moran and Des Olsen. At Claude's request, there will be no formal services. Interment at Arlington Cemetery. Visitation at Weller's Funeral Home, Arlington, Saturday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

McCLELLAN, Max C. of Bellingham, co-founder of Hardware Sales, died at home Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997. He was 79. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenacres Memorial Park. Hardware Sales will close at noon that day. Born March 8, 1917, to James F. and Cora Mellott McClellan in Alger, he graduated from Whatcom High School in 1935. In his early years, he logged and purchased timber for the York-Ellis Mill. In 1962, he and his wife co-founded Power Sales, now Hardware Sales. He was a lifetime member of Elk's Lodge No. 194 and a member of Bellingham Yacht Club, Moose Lodge and Bellingham Eagles. He enjoyed socializing, recording country music for his family and friends and writing poetry. He also wrote a book about the early McClellan family days. He enjoyed spending winters in the Palm Springs, Calif., area and in Mesa, Ariz., and enjoyed his puppy, Misty. Mr. McClellan was preceded in death by brothers Herb McClellan, George McClellan, James McClellan, Roy McClellan and Reed McClellan; sisters Dessa Olsen and Blanche Moran; and grandson Robert A. George in January 1982. Survivors include his wife Alta whom he married on Aug. 17, 1935, in Ferndale; daughter LaDonna George; son Jerry McClellan; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; brother Claude McClellan of Arlington; and numerous nieces and nephews, including niece Geri Barney of Kirkland. McCLELLAN, Reed N., 94, 3802 James Street Road, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1992. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Greenacres Memorial Park, with the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Mr. McClelllan was born March 19, 1898, in Princeton, Minn., to James and Cora McClellan. He worked in the logging industry for many years. Survivors include sons Richard McClellan of Everson and Wallace McClellan of Bellingham; brothers Max McClellan of Bellingham and Claude McClellan of Arlington; sister Blanche Moran of Bellingham; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. McCLUE, Delmar Covert "Del" of 1029 Ten Mile Road died at home Tuesday, May 6, 1997. He was 83. At his request, no service will be held. Born Nov. 15, 1913, in Lanesboro, Iowa, Mr. McClue attended school in Colorado. He was a local resident since 1949. He married Peggy Remsburg on Sept. 5, 1940, in Lake City, Iowa. Mr. McClue was a mechanic, machinist and dairy farmer. He retired in 1987. A self- taught design engineer, he manufactured model gas engines. He also enjoyed reading and traveling. He was a member of Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association, Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery Association, and Branch 26, Early Days Gas Engine Tractor Association. Survivors include daughters Bunny O'Fay of Everson, Penny Schons of Mount Vernon, Betty Chalfant of Bothel and Dorothy Forsyth of Olympia; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

McCLURE, Richard "Dick" Henry, age 80, passed away on May 28, 2007 at his home in Bellingham. He was born in Akron, Ohio on May 19, 1927 to Joseph Elmer McClure and Helen (Maurer) McClure. He is a descendent of James Andrew McClure, born 1660, County Donegal, Ireland. Dick McClure's ancestors settled in Virginia and Tennessee. His mother's family was from Pennsylvania. An elder sister, Jacqueline, preceded him in death. Following high school graduation in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served in the South Pacific at the end of World War II. Dick returned to Navy service during the Korean conflict. In 1949 he married Doris Frances York in Akron, where the couple raised three children. Dick worked for many years in the Summit County Auditor's office, retiring early as Deputy Auditor in 1975 to move to Washington. Settling in Kitsap County, Dick had a second career at Land Title, retiring from there in 1990 to spend more time with their small business in antiques, both taking great enjoyment in traveling to shows around the West. After his wife's death in 1994, Dick moved to Bellingham to be close to his two daughters. He enjoyed swing music, gambling, baseball, building model airplanes, and spending time with family. He is survived by his children Richard McClure, Jr, (Cheryl Mack) of Trout Lake, Washington, Jacqueline McClure (Mark Henderson) of Bellingham, and Jennifer Kurtz (Kevin) of Bellingham. Grandchildren include Kirian McClure, Travis Kurtz, Reed Henderson, and Lauren Kurtz. Friends and family are invited to an open house Friday, June 1, 4-7 p.m. The family would like to express their gratitude to the many dedicated and caring health service professionals from Madrona Medical, St. Joseph's Hospital, Mt. Baker Care Center, Whatcom Hospice, and Visiting Angels who have helped with his care over the past several years.

McCOLLUM, Jennie Marie of 7052 Goodwin Road will be at noon Friday at Greenacres Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mrs. McCollum died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at Alderwood Park Convalescent Center. She was 91. Born May 30, 1905, to John and Bertha Persson Johnson in Bellingham, she graduated from Whatcom High School in 1923 and from Bellingham Normal School. She married Gilbert McCollum in 1927 in Vancouver, B.C.; he died in 1979. Mrs. McCollum taught at Hopewell Elementary School, was a charter member of Hopewell Home Demonstration Club and served on the Hopewell Grade School Board. Survivors include son Gilbert McCollum of Everson, daughters Joy Byrum of Seattle and Gloria Elliott of Bent, Ore., brother Harry Johnson of Lawrence, sister Lillian Shaeffer of Bellingham, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

McCONKEY, Shirley Loraine – A memorial service for Shirley Loraine (Garrison) McConkey of Bellingham will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Square. Mrs. McConkey died Thursday, Dec 30, 1999 in Seattle. She was 74. Mrs. McConkey was born Nov 3, 1925 to Leonard and Muriel (Nellis) Garrison in Alberta, Canada. In 1955, she married David McConkey. He died in 1987. Mrs. McConkey worked as a riveter in Seattle. She later moved to Bellingham, where she worked for Visiting Nurse Home Health Care until she retired in 1996. Mrs. McConkey was a member of Laurel Grange and Bellingham First Baptist Church. She also was the activity director of Washington Square. Survivors include daughter Tammy Wahl of Bellingham and one grandchild. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.

McCONNELL, Thelma May, 91, of Bellingham, went home to be with her Lord on Sat., Jan. 17, 2004. She was born Sept. 4, 1912 in New Westminster, B.C., Canada. Her parents were Dwight and Mable Hatfield of Bellingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband Romaine Taylor, 2nd husband Louis McConnell, brother Denton & wife Jeanne Hatfield, and sister Shirley & husband Vincent Cox of Seattle. She assisted her 1st husband Roe Taylor in owning/operating the Maples Café until his death in 1969. She and Roe shared many hobbies such as fishing on the bay, camping and hunting game in Eastern Washington, taking trips in their camper, and golfing. She was part owner and worker at her father's business, Hatfield Cleaner's, until his death in Jan. 1972. She continued to work in the business with her brother Denton Hatfield who later died in 1987. She then lived and cared for her ailing mother Mable Hatfield. Thelma, her mother, and a dear aunt and niece took a trip to Hawaii where they loved the climate among other things. She also enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Holy Land with her friend Verda Page. She was also active in a Nursing Home Ministry where she was blessed by meeting Louis McConnell, a retired minister. They enjoyed a trip to Hawaii, a cruise to Alaska and a conference at Cannon Beach, Oregon. Thelma enjoyed reading Christian books, especially the Jeanette Oke novels and did not miss any of the "Left Behind" series. Survived by her sister Nadine (Stanley) Barger of Snohomish step-sons: Phil (Patti) McConnell of Bellingham, Leonard McConnell, Robert McConnell, James McConnell step daughter Vera Grovon three nieces Marcia (Dean) Cross of Muncie, IN, Stana (Dan) Spangler of Everett, and Melinda (Rick) Rudd of Sultan three nephews David Hatfield of Seattle, Russell and Matthew Barger both of Everett and numerous other family members. A memorial service will be held Sat., Jan. 31, 1 p.m. at Immanuel Bible Church, 2000 W. North St., Bellingham with Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial at Greenacres|Moles Cemetery.

McCORT, William M. – A celebration of life for William Michael "Mike" McCort of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jerns Funeral Chapel. Mr. McCort died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was 56. Born Jan 7, 1944 to Paul and Helen (Taylor) McCort in St. Petersburg, Fla., he grew up in the St. Clairsville, Ohio, area and at Moses Lake. When he was about 18, he attended beauty school. Mr. McCort served in the U.S. Army for three years, mostly in Germany. On Sept. 30, 1966, he married Coralie "Corey" Balch in Tacoma. They later divorced. In 1967, he moved to Bellingham. In 1972, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Western Washington University. After a five-year career with the IRS, he started his own business with Jim Elder. Recently, the business was renamed to McCort and Bell, with Gene Bell. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting. His parents and brother Pat McCort died previously. Survivors include daughter Shelby Keene of Bellingham; brothers Danny McCort of Othello and Sean McCort of Moses Lake; sister Rose Marie Cook of Moses Lake; ex-wife Coralie, "Corey" Priddy, of Bellingham; and one grandchild. McCOURT, Leta Swan of Ferndale died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was 78. She was born Oct. 15, 1918, at Livingston, Mont., to Samuel and Etta (Cole) Swan. Mrs. McCourt graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in home economics and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She worked for Catholic Children Services in Tacoma and also typed braille documents for blind children. On May 23, 1942, she married Arthur J. McCourt in Chicago, Ill. After World War II, the couple lived in Seattle until 1949, when they moved to Tacoma. In 1977, they moved to Arletta, where Mrs. McCourt lived until she moved to Providence Point in Issaquah in 1987. She lived in Ferndale for the last year. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981. Survivors include her sons William Patrick McCourt of Ferndale, Jerome M. McCourt of Lakebay, and Mark A. McCourt of Santa Ana, Calif.; a brother, Willard A. Swan of Seattle; two sisters, Alice Winnie of Portland and Ruth Johnson of Seattle; six grandchildren. A service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Haven of Rest Funeral Chapel in Gig Harbor. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.

McCOWAN, Ben T. - Visitation for Ben T. McCowan of Bellingham will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bayview Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Porterfield officiating. Mr. McCowan died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997. He was 79. Born July 4, 1918, to Bob and Frances Bunch McCowan in Corbin, Ky., he married Sybil Potter Feb. 6, 1941, in DeQueen, Ark. Mr. McCowan served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Owner and operator of beverage bottling and distributing companies, he also worked as industrial coordinator of the Oklahoma State Prison system for 15 years, retiring in 1983. Mr. McCowan was a member of Alabama Street Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; daughter Margaret Beckett of Mount Vernon; sisters Ollie Martin of Beavercreek, Ohio, Macola Mullin of San Antonio, Texas, Helen O'Brien of Sylvania, Ohio, Thedda siler of Corbin, and Virginia Gilbert of Laural County, Ken.; brothers Connell McCowan of Corbin, Alfred McCowan of Albany, Ga., Dempsey McCowan of Nederland, Texas, Fred McCowan of San Marcos, Texas, Jack McCowan of Las Vegas and R. L. McCowan of Kirkland; and three grandchildren.

McCOY, John H., D.D.S. – After a long battle with arthritis, immobility, and associated health problems, on the morning of April 4, 2007, granted by the mercy of our Lord, Dr. John Hollister McCoy, D.D.S. who was 85 years of age was taken home. Dr. McCoy is survived by his dedicated wife of 55 years, Jeannie Hoerner McCoy, his sister Joanna Ashby of Sedona, Arizona, his brother David McCoy of Redding, California, and his three children, his youngest daughter Jennifer McCoy (Judd) who lives in Southern California, his oldest daughter Tina Haws who lives in Manton, California, and his son John C. McCoy who presently resides in Bellingham, Washington. Dr. McCoy also has numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved and enjoyed very much. It is through these surviving family members that he passes on his perseverance, his influences, and his zest for life. A private memorial service is being planned pending travel arrangements for close friends and family, acknowledgments and condolences can be given through the Northwest Baptist Cornerstone Church, Bellingham, Washington. McCUISTION, William Thomas - A memorial service for William Thomas McCuistion of Bellingham will be at 1 p.m. today at Jones-Moles Funeral Home. Burial was in Bayview Cemetery. Mr. McCuistion died of cancer at home Wednesday, April 30, 1997. He was 54. Born June 19, 1942, in Port Arthur, Texas, he worked as an evangelist, minister and missionary for Church of Christ since 1964. He was a member of Samish Way Church of Christ. Mr. McCuistion taught himself the Russian language and, since 1992, worked primarily teaching the Bible to local Russian-speaking people. Survivors include his wife, Linda, daughters Beth and Laura, son Justin, his mother, Mary Louise, sisters Judy and Jennifer and two grandchildren.

McDANIEL, Ruth, passed away at the home of her niece, Rebecca Valrejean, surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, February 6, 1997. She was born an raised in Anaconda, Montana, a state she loved and returned to year after year. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters and her late husband, Lewis McDaniel. She was a member of at least two bridge groups, and as a devoted Catholic, she was active in her parish and was a former president of the Assumption Catholic Altar Society, active member of the Catholic Daughters, and participated in numerous non-profit organizations including the YWCA where she taught a class in rug braiding as a creative contribution of her time and talents. In her youth, she was a cheerleader and was known for her love of dancing. She contributed to many non-profit charities such as the Humane Society, the United Negro College Fund, YWCA and the Assumption School Alumni and Friends. Ruth's generosity was not limited to her pocketbook. On many occasions, she was prone to open her home to those in need of a place to sleep or others who simply needed a mentor. Her grand sense of humor and positive attitude, coupled with a deep spiritual strength endeared her to everyone who met her no matter what age. It was because of this that she was often referred to by her nickname, "Aunt Toots". There were many who enjoyed the company of "Aunt Toots" at her famous "Happy Hour". She is survived by many loving friends and family members including her faithful dog, "Bud", her little lap dog. The mass and memorial celebration will be held at the Assumption Church, Monday, February 10th, at 10 a.m. Arrangements by Westford Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

McDONALD, Alick A. - Funeral services for Alick A. McDonald will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Jones Funeral Home. Mr. McDonald, 82, died in Seattle, Friday (Jan 7, 1966). A resident of Whatcom County from 1925 to 1932, Mr. McDonald had been a logging superintendent in British Columbia for many years. He was also employed by the U. S. Forest Service for several years and formerly owned and operated a motel in the Lynnwood area. He is survived by his widow Florence, of the family home, 535-13th East, Seattle; a son, Ronald, Lake Quinalt; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Healy, Seattle; three sisters, Mrs. Katherine Nickols, Susanville, Calif.; Mrs. Bell Stein, Medford, Ore., and Mrs. Elva Hall, Sebastopal, Calif., and five grandchildren. The Rev. Dr. Glenn C. Carlson will conduct the funeral services and burial will be in Bay View Cemetery.

McDONALD, Dorothy Lee, a lifetime resident of Bellingham, WA, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, in Bellingham. She was 69, born in Bellingham on November 8, 1936, to Mary Ellen (Donald) and Helge Linde. Dorothy was a member of the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union. She waitressed at the Leopold Hotel, the Yacht Club and the Country Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald and sisters Alida Joy Burke and Mary Ellen Byers. She was survived by her 2 sons: Kelly and wife Michelle McDonald, Donald and wife Ramona McDonald; four grandchildren: Erin, Kristy, Spencer, and Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 17 in the Bayview Chapel at the funeral home.

McDONALD, Fannie M., passed away at a local hospital Tuesday, March 10, 1942. Mrs. McDonald is survived by one son Norman C. McDonald, two grandsons, Norman J. and Gerald C. McDonald and one sister Ida C. Miskelly, and one step son John F. McDonald. Her remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingswoth where private funeral services will be conducted by Rev. W. McDONALD, Gerald C., age 71 of 380 East Pole Road, Lynden passed away December 27, 1991 in Bellingham. He was born July 1920 on Lummi Island to Emily (misspelled - should be Emelie) and Norman McDonald and was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County. He received his grade school education on Lummi Island and graduated from Bellingham High School. After a short time in California, Jerry returned to Whatcom County and in 1943 he made Captain of the Chief Kwina - a 6-car ferry running between Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point. He was involved in plans to build the present Whatcom Chief and was Captain until he retired in 1976.
Jerry was a Charter member of the Lummi Island Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire commissioner for 17 years. After retirement, Jerry and wife Norma traveled to Alaska most summers and to Arizona during the winter months. Surviving is his wife, Norma and the family home, sons Robert and wife Vicky of Kent, Jim and wife Carol of Everett, Gary of Anchorage, daughter Marcia Ellingboe of Anchorage, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one brother Bud McDonald and wife Zorka of Durham, Ca. He is also survived by Vern and Leona Hawley, parents of wife Norma. Memorial services were held on Lummi Island.

McDOWELL, Virgil R., of Bellingham, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 2002, in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 69. Virgil was born in Richfield, Calif. on Sept. 9, 1932. Moved to Bellingham in 1970 to continue his career at ARCO in Ferndale where he retired after more than 35 years. Virgil served his community for over 25 years at the North Bellingham Fire Station as a member of the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department. He also served over 2 decades as a volunteer member of Whatcom County Sheriff's Search and Rescue 4x4 team. Virgil loved the outdoors. He taught all his kids and grand kids to fish, enjoy nature and life. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred; his children, Rex, Robert, James and Kathy; his grandchildren, Michael, Timothy, Matthew and Chantel and his cat Barney. Viewing will be held Thurs. Feb. 7, 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Greenacres-Moles Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gordon Terpstra officiating and burial to follow in Greenacres Memorial Park.

McELROY, Jill A. - Funeral services for Jill A. McElroy, age 36, of 756 El Camino Way, Lynden, will be Thursday May 12 at 1 p.m. in Central Lutheran Church with Rev. Leonard C. Ericksen & Rev. McELROY, Patsy, Kay, age 64, passed away December 16, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born August 21, 1941 in Austin, TX. Patsy leaves behind her best friend and in her words "a wonderful and loving husband" of 46 years, Gene McElroy, whom she married December 19, 1959, in Corpus Christi, TX and three children she was very proud of: Steven McElroy, wife Rhonda and son Justin of Everett; Cynthia Ryan, husband Timothy, daughters Krista and Nicole Eich and sons Andrew and Jeffrey Ryan, all of Ferndale; Scott McElroy, wife Eryn and sons Michael and Isaiah McElroy and Daniel and Thomas McConnell, all of Columbus AFB, Mississippi. Patsy also leaves behind two longtime friends, the Edminsters of Bellingham and the Lesters of Rice, WA. Patsy follows her parents J. F. and Dorothy Persons. In her last years, she became fascinated by lighthouses and with her husband traveled the coastlines of the USA and Canada in a motorhome. She loved all types of crafts such as painting, cross-stitching, knitting, embroidery and sewing. Many of these crafts were used to make special items requested by her family. Patsy especially enjoyed playing games with her children and grandchildren. Just as she always did, even to the end, she was thinking of others. Patsy had a big heart and loved her children. McEWEN, Idella, born August 1, 1928 in Bellingham, WA, she passed away September 3, 2003 in Mount Vernon. She is survived by her children: Brent and David McEwen of Mount Vernon grandchildren: Sarah of Mount Vernon, Emily of Sedro-Woolley brother: Clyde (Mary Ann) Windon of Kendall, WA sister: Annette Abell of Kalispel, MT, brother and sister-in-law: James and Marion Alford, mother-in-law: Alice Herzog. She is preceded in death by her husband, William in May of 2002 and her parents: Jess and Audrey Windon. Idella graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1946, and then attended Bellingham Business College. Prior to becoming a mother, she worked as a legal secretary in Bellingham. Idella was active in the Emblem Club she enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and traveling. Idella loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Viewing will be held Thursday, September 11, 2003, 9:00 a.m. until the graveside service, 1:00 p.m., at Hawthorne Memorial Park. McFEE, Gladys died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at Alderwood Park Convalescent Center. She was 95. At her request, no service will be held. Born Aug. 13, 1901, to Ira and Lillie Mathus in Mount Vernon, Ill., she lived most of her life in Cle Elum and Bellingham. Survivors include son Russel Snider of Bellingham, daughter Beverly Clump of Bellingham, brother Jack Mathus of Bellingham, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. McGAW, Howard Franklin - A memorial service for Howard Franklin McGaw of Bellingham will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship. Mr. McGaw died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997. He was 86. Born Oct. 5, 1911, to Sam and Bonnie McGaw in Nashville, Tenn., he graduated from Vanderbilt University, received a master's degree in library science from Peabody College and a doctorate degree from Columbia University. Mr. McGaw was library director of Ohio Wesleyan library from 1946 to 1949, the University of Houston from 1950 to 1961 and Western Washington University State College, now Western Washington University, from 1964 to 1967. He was president of Bellingham-Whatcom County Humane Society and Friends of Bellingham Public Library. Mr. McGaw was preceded in death by former wife Jessie McGaw and brother Stephen McGaw. Survivors include daughter Miriam Dennis of Houston; son Vernon McGaw of Houston; former wife Lorraine McGaw of Bellingham; stepson Craig Chambers of Bellingham; stepdaughter Cheryl Hemphill of Austin, Texas; brothers Robert McGaw of Nashville and Marshall McGaw of Mount Pleasant, Tenn.; sister Miriam Cowden of Nashville; and two grandchildren.

McGHEE, Lena M., age 97 of Bellingham, WA died Saturday, February 1, 1997, at Mt. Baker Care Center. She was born October 9, 1899 in Eskridge, Kansas to Ernest and Lilly (Mercer) Martin. Her father was a logger and her mother cooked for the loggers. Mrs. McGhee attended grade school at Forest Grove, graduated from Harmony High School in 1914, graduated from Normal School in 1917 and attended Wilson's Business College for 1 year in 1918. Lena married Roy McGhee in Spokane, WA in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1984. She worked as a bookkeeper for Lind Gravel retiring after 23 years of service she also worked for Bellingham Builders Supply 1942 to 1961 and for George Nolte until 1967. Survived by nieces and nephews, Jesse Martin, Jr., Jeanette Radke, Jack Martin all of Bellingham, Phillis Martin of LakeBay, WA, and Robert Martin of Ferndale. Services will be held at Westford Funeral Home Chapel 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 1997. Arrangements by Westford Funeral Home.

McGILLIVRAY, Inga P., 84, of Anacortes died in an Anacortes nursing home, Thursday, July 17, 1997. She was born June 3, 1913., on the family farm near Kenmare, North Dakota, where they had a dairy and chicken farm. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Goshen Grange. Inga was preceded in death by Gordon in 1986 and is survived by her daughter Jeaneen Grogan of Anacortes, her daughters and sons-in-law, Evonne and Michael Siguenza of Tacoma, WA, Judy and Ray Voeller of Seattle, WA, 7 grandchildren, a sister, Caroline Hovland of Canby, OR, a brother, Carl Christianson, of Minneapolis, MN, several sisters and brothers-in-law as well a numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 1997 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Everson, WA. Arrangements under the direction of Evans Funeral Chapel, Anacortes, Washington.

McGILLIVRAY, Vivian D. of Bellingham died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, in Bellingham. She was 88. At her request, now service will be held. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. Born May 14, 1909, in Everett to John and Augusta Johnson Weston, she was a lifelong resident of Whatcom County. She married William M. McGillivray on March 29, 1930, in Bellingham. A 1927 graduate of Ferndale High School and a member of Silver Beach Community Church, she enjoyed knitting and raising flowers. She was preceded in death by brothers Ruben Weston, John Weston, Wilbur Weston and Dale Weston. Survivors include her husband of Bellingham; daughter Judith Blue of Santa Maria, Calif.; brother Waldo E. Weston of Bellingham; sisters Lorraine Murr of Mount Vernon and Hope Lowe and Marion Anderson, both of Bellingham; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. McGINNIS, John E. (Jack), age 70, of 2600 Peabody, passed away in a local hospital Friday, November 27, (1959). Mr. McGinnis was born in Bellingham and had resided here his entire life. He was formerly city treasurer, and was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors are his widow, Harriet M., at home; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Gill, of Bellingham and Mrs. Gertrude Goenen, of Seattle; one son, Dale K. McGinnis, of Seattle; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Besse Yuill, of Bellingham; numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where private services will be conducted by the Rev. C. C. Hovda Monday, Nov. 30 at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place Bay View cemetery.

McGINNIS, Marie Elizabeth Jansen, age 79, passed away on October 8, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. Marie was 9th of 12 children, born to Geritt and Johanna Jansen in Litchfield, North Dakota on April 28, 1923. Marie married Richard "Dick" McGinnis on November 13, 1943. They met at the Ferndale Roller Rink as teenagers. They would have celebrated their 59th anniversary next month. Marie was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Ruth Seabury Women's Circle. She worked as a florist for many years and spent many holidays helping her brother Gary at his flower shop in downtown Bellingham. She enjoyed cooking, beach combing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband Dick; son Robert McGinnis of Bellingham; daughter Bonnie and husband Stan Jensen of Lynden; grandchildren Kara Belka, Jeff and wife Gina McGinnis, Maya Belka, Leah and husband Eric Broussard; and two great grandchildren, Julia and Abigail Broussard. She is also survived by brothers Al, Bill, and Pete Jansen; sisters Gertrude Blondheim and Sophia Lich; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Skip, Evert, Jack, Gary, and Hank Jansen; and sister Joann Zeman. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Bellingham on Tuesday October 15th at 2 p.m. with reception following in the church Social Hall.

McGINNIS, Robert Ramsey, aged 61, died after a brief battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Dick and Marie (Jansen) McGinnis. He is survived by his son Jeff (Gina and Sofia), sisters Marsha Alan (Bob) and Bonnie Jensen (Stan) and numerous relatives. Bob was born in Bellingham 7/23/45 and graduated from BHS in 1963. He played basketball, ran relay and hurdles in track and played the snare drums in the school band. He met his sweetheart, Lana Colley in junior high. They eventually married and moved to Seattle. He graduated from WWSC with a degree in education and a master's degree from U of W. He taught P.E. and Health at 3 high schools in Seattle, but his passion was coaching track and taking his accomplished athletes to State. Bob enjoyed life to the fullest, teaching, coaching, modeling and acting, but his greatest joy was being with his son Jeff. His undiagnosed Bi-Polar disorder and alcoholism affected his behavior and he battled these and cancer until his death. Bob will hopefully be remembered for his charismatic personality, engaging smile and athleticism. His family and friends are grateful he is finally at peace. A memorial service in Santa Barbara at East Beach, across from the bird refuge, will be held April 14 at 2. All are welcome.

McGLOTHERN, Lenora Jane – The motherly life of Lenora Jane McGlothern ended on Thursday August 24, 2006, at her home in Bellingham, WA. She was 53, born in Salt Lake City Utah on February 4, 1953 to Joyce and Dwyane Gardner. Lenora married Robert D. McGlothern Sr. on April 15 1986. They were together 30 years. Lenora was a determined strong woman who loved her life and everything in it. She always had a great outlook, even through the hardest of times. She was a great wife, mother, sister, and friend. Everyone who knew her loved her and everyone who loved her will miss her forever. Lenora is survived by her husband Robert McGlothern Sr., daughters Jane Marie Hoffman, Tonie Lee Mann, Bobbie Deana McGlothern, son Robert Dean McGlothern Jr., and grandchildren Colbe James Hoffman, Devin Jane Hoffman, Miranda Lee Perez and Pablo Dean Adame. Services will be held Saturday August 26 at 11 a.m. at her home.

McGUFFIN, Glenn E. - A funeral for Glenn E. McGuffin of Bellingham will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenacres Funeral Home chapel with Robert Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. McGuffin died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was 83. Born June 6, 1914, to Charles and Della Binkley McGuffin in Emporia, Kan., he lived in Whatcom County for 61 years. He married Shirley Balliett Dec. 30, 1936, in Bellingham. Mr. McGuff served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the family home, sister Ivy Varney of Bellingham, brother Lyman McGuffin of Santa Cruz, Calif., and numerous other relatives.

McGUIRE, Robert J., First Lt., age 25, formerly of 1713 G Street, who was killed in action on Saipan, July 11, 1943, will arrive in Bellingham under military escort Friday, July 9, (1948). Lt. McGuire was a graduate of Whatcom High School and leaves to survive his father, Clifton C., of Bellingham; three brothers, Clarence H., of Marblemount, Capt. Fred L., of Everett, and Ray C., of The Dalles, Oregon. Graveside military services will be conducted under the direction of Harlow-Hollingsworth by the officers of the Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion, Saturday, July 10, at 1:30 p.m., at the Greenacres Memorial Park.

McGUIRE, Robert K. died on Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at the Mount Baker Care Center in Bellingham. He was 76. Mr. McGuire suffered from multiple health problems, including cancer. He served in both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. McGuire lived in Seattle for about 45 years and worked in the hotel business. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary; daughter Julianne Gould; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, all of Bellingham. At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Arrangement are by Jern-LeVeck Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in Bellingham.

McHARGUE, Don of Birch Bay passed away on July 27th, 2001 in Bellingham. Born in Wann, Oklahoma on July 19, 1920, Don was a World War II veteran, and retired from Civil Service. He belonged to Whatcom County Seniors, and Lake Padden and Birch Bay Village golf clubs. He enjoyed racing and sailing his boat "Hustler", a Buchan 37 which he completed himself. He was a member of the Lake City Elks Club, American Legion Post 86, and BBV Yacht Club. He is survived by his daughter Donna Hubenthal, his wife, Lona, of 32 years, and her children Mike, David, & Ron Greathouse, and Carol Smith brother John McHargue and sisters Effie McHargue and Velma Searcy 11 loving grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two children, Linda & Billy McHargue, and 2 sisters. Memorial Services will be on Aug. 17th, 2001, 11 a.m., at McKinney Funeral Chapel, 464 8th St, Blaine. A celebration of Don's life will follow at Birch Bay Village Clubhouse.

McILVENNA, William Robert, age 78, a Bellingham resident for 27 years, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 1997, in Bellingham, WA. He was born September 25, 1919, to Thomas and Pearl (Meek) McIlvenna in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. McIlvenna was a graduate of the University of So. California with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a civil engineer for 45 years and worked on projects in Saudi Arabia. He was Project Engineer at Sudden Valley, a member of Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity (Engineering), and a member of Toastmasters International. He enjoyed woodworking and photography. Survivors include his wife Marion Wade McIlvenna; son Thomas Edward and wife Carolyn McIlvenna, also of Bellingham; and 2 nephews. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, December 27 and 28. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 1997 at Jones-Moles Funeral Home Chapel. McINTYRE, Sydney S., Jr., 73, of Sedro-Woolley, died peacefully at his home on Monday, June 2, 1997. He was born November 10, 1923, in Sedro-Woolley, a son of the late Sydney S. McIntyre, Sr. and Hazel (Splane) McIntyre. He was a third generation member of the McIntyre family, who owned and operated Skagit Steel and Iron Works for fifty-five years. It later became known as Skagit Corporation. He was a 1942 graduate of Sedro-Woolley High School and attended Menlo College in Menlo Park, California. In 1946, he graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He affiliated with Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Following his graduation, he returned to Sedro-Woolley to work with his father and brothers in the family business, serving as vice president until his retirement in 1969. On June 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Georgia D. Colouzis, in Mount Vernon. Mrs. McIntyre died in 1991. His affiliations included membership in Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, Bellingham; honorary past master of United Lodge No. 93, Free & Accepted Masons, Sedro-Woolley; member of both Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies; member Nile Temple of Shrine, Seattle, and the Trucker's Unit; member of both Skagit County and Northwest Shrine Club, Bellingham; past worthy patron of Cyrene Chapter No 110, Order of Eastern Star, Sedro-Woolley; member of Bellingham Golf and Country Club; Bellingham Yacht Club; the Navy League, Oak Harbor; and the Mechanical Engineering Society. He was a long time member of the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by his club. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award of the Boy Scouts of America. Sydney was instrumental in the formation of the Skagit County Port District and served as a port commissioner. He was also active in the Washington State Better Roads Association. He and his late wife Georgia were major contributors to the building of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church and the Fellowship Hall, which was named for them. Sydney was personally awarded the Patriarch Athenagorasi Humanitarian Award and the Greek Orthodox Archidiocese of North and South America Archdiocesan Medal of St. Paul. His latest project was the building and management of the Three Rivers Inn and Restaurant in Sedro-Woolley. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his generosity to his family, his Church, and his many community projects. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Tessea and Douglas Smith, Lyman; two sons and one daughter-in-law, George and Tami McIntyre, Mount Vernon, and Peter McIntyre, Sedro-Woolley; seven grandchildren, Crystal and Jessica Smith, and George, Peter, Philip, Andrew and Alexander McIntyre; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Albert Soldate, Arcadia, California; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Shirley McIntyre, Seattle; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother David G. McIntyre II. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 5, at the Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington. McIVOR, Marian Jeanette of Bellingham, WA, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2005, in Bellingham. She was 90, born in Bellingham on September 16, 1915, to Myrtle (Houchins) and Burton Bloxham. Marian loved flowers, gardening, painting pictures, and reading. She also loved all sports, especially the Mariners, and outdoor activities. For years, she went to the Sehome baseball and basketball games. She was a great cook and loved picnics. She sewed many outfits for all of her grandchildren. Marian never missed "The Price is Right." She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was most precious to her. She was preceded in death by Axel, her husband of 67 years, an infant daughter, two brothers, and four sisters, Helen, June, Margarete, and Bernice. She is survived by sons Curtis McIvor and Steve McIvor (Susie); daughter-in-law Mary Ann Tarmina; grandchildren Marcy McIvor (Dale Rauch), Jeanette McIvor, Kellie Eiswald (Greg), Teri Westford (Bo), Robin Beresford (Harry), Curtis McIvor, Jr, Sean McIvor; and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice for all their wonderful and thoughtful care, and for always being there when we needed them. Honoring Marian's wishes, no service will be held. A private family remembrance of her life will be held at a later date.

McKAY, Heather Elaine - A memorial service for Heather Elaine McKay of Renton will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Eastgate Congregational Church in Bellevue. Ms. McKay died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, of injuries sustained in an auto accident near Mount Vernon. She was 19. She was born Feb. 18, 1978, to William and Candi McKay in Seattle. A graduate in the top 10 percent of her class at Kentridge High School, Ms. McKay received a Washington State Honors Award and President's Award for Educational Excellence and was a member of the National Honor Society. She received early admission to Huxley School of Environmental Studies at WWU and was pursuing a career in the field of water quality. She w as a member of the Mount Baker Rowing Club and enjoyed art, traveling, snow skiing and playing billiards. Ms. McKay was preceded in death by grandparents Doris McKay and Alice Topping. Survivors include her parents of Renton, brother Brad McKay of Renton, grandfather and step-grandmother Rolston and Ruth Topping of Wickenburg, Ariz., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

McKAY, John - Funeral services for John McKay, 84, of Clearbrook, who passed away Monday (July 22, 1940) will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Gillies chapel in Sumas with the Rev. J. M. Wilson, of Bellingham, officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakeside cemetery at Clearbrook. Mr. McKay had been a resident of the Clearbrook district the past sixty-seven years and was a member of the Whatcom County Dairymen's Association.

McKAY, Lillian and infant, late of 114 Thirty-fourth Street, passed away at a local hospital, Tuesday, December 9, (1941). Mrs. McKay was a member of the Calvary Pentecostal Church and had been a resident of Bellingham for about six years. She is survived by her husband, Raymond J. McKay; one daughter, Barbara Louise at home; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Yest, of Bellingham. Her remains rest at the home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted Friday, December 12, at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. E. G. Copley. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park.

McKAY, Louise – A memorial Mass for Louise (Purtell) McKay of Spokane, formerly of Ferndale, will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Blaine, with the Rev. Tim Sauer officiating. Mrs. McKay died Monday, April 10, 2000 at her home. She was 33. Born June 22, 1966 to Stephen and Marie (Santangelo) Purtell in Bronx, NY, she had been a resident of Ferndale for 22 years. McKAY, Ruth Snyder, of Marysville died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at Tulalip Senior Retirement Center. She was 88. A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Moles Funeral Home Chapel with Vernon Lane officiating. A funeral liturgy will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joachim Catholic Church with the Revs. Patrick Towhy and Tim Sauer officiating. Born April 16, 1908, to Charles and Viola Herford Snyder in Fort Washakie, Wyo., she worked as a registered nurse and was a member of the American Nurse Association in Washington. She married James George McKay in Lapwai, Idaho. He died in 1989. Survivors include son James C. McKay of Santa Fe, N.M.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

McKEE, Iris Mary, age 72 of Bellingham, WA, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 1997, in Bellingham. Mrs. McKee was born October 23, 1924 in Tugaske, Saskatchewan, Canada. She married Jack McKee on October 26, 1946, and has been a local resident for 51 years. She retired from Bellingham Cold Storage after working there for 33 years. A member of the Teamsters Union, Elks Club, Yacht Club, and the Moose Lodge, Mrs. McKee enjoyed gardening, painting, ceramics, quilting, knitting and sewing. She was also a great cook! She traveled all over the world, including Russia, Egypt, Spain, England, Sweden, Poland, Germany and France. Survived by: husband Jack McKee; son, Philip McKee of Bellingham; daughters, Maureen Sanders of Bellingham, Susan Pringle of Burlington, WA; brother, Les Hartell of Tugaske, Saskatchewan; sister, Dorothy McKinnon of Surrey, B.C.; six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 11, 1997, 1 p.m. at Jones-Moles Funeral Home. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. McKEE, Miriam – A private memorial service for Miriam "Mim" (Chamberlin) McKee of Bellingham will be held at a later date. Mrs. McKee died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at her home. She was 81. Born Nov 12, 1918 to Tom and Rita (Folland) Chamerlin in Salt Lake City, she had been a Bellingham resident for 22 years. Mrs. McKee earned a degree in geology from the University of Wisconsin. She married John "Mac" P. McKee and they moved to different areas in the United States and Canada, prospecting for minerals. In 1965, she began teaching geology at Portland State University. She retired to Bellingham in 1978. Her husband died previously. Survivors include sons Jack and Doug McKee, daughter Jean Swanson, sister Jo McTaggart, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. McKINNON, Donald B., age 64 of Marysville died Dec. 24, 1981 in an Everett hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1917 at Lynden and was raised in Bellingham where he graduated from high school & later attended Bellingham Normal. Mr. McKinnon served from 1938 to 1945 in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was discharged as a Major, later he served as commanding officer of Bellingham USMC Reserve unit for 7 years. He moved to Seattle in 1954 and had lived in Marysville for the past 11 years. Mr. McKinnon worked for Western Gear for 29 years until retiring in Oct., and was a longtime member of the Whatcom Masonic Lodge No. 151 and the Everett Yacht Club. He leaves his wife Lois at home; a son and daughter in law, Frank & Kristine McKinnon and granddaughter, Kimberly Faith McKinnon, all of Marysville; a sister Mrs. Martin Locke of Ferndale. Graveside services 1 p.m. Tues. at Greenacres Memorial Park with Rev. Leonard Ericksen officiating. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. McKISSICK, James M. - A memorial service for James M. McKissick of Bellingham will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Richard Talley officiating. Mr. McKissick died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996. He was 58. Born June 28, 1938, in Lewiston, Idaho, he graduated from John Rogers High School in Spokane in 1956 and from the University of Idaho in 1962 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. After moving to Bellingham in 1966, he worked for Intalco Aluminum Corp. for seven years. Mr. McKisssick was founder of Auto Clean, R.V. Industries and Bay Side Equipment. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Dotzler McKissick, of Bellingham; son Stephen McKissick of Woodinville; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

McKISSICK, Mary M. of Bellingham died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997. She was 92. A graveside service will be held in Albia, Iowa. Born July 20, 1905, to Frank and Mary Adams Coulter in Albia, she married Carl McKissick there on July 20, 1926. Mrs. McKissick was a school teacher in Iowa and lived in Bellingham for eight years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968. Survivors include son Marvin McKissick of LaVerne, Calif., daughters Liola Cordes of Bellingham, Berdena Williams of Toronto, Ontario, and Ruth McKissick of Wasilla, Alaska, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. McKnight was a 12 year resident of Lummi Island, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in this City. McLAREN, Irene M. - A memorial service for Irene M. McLaren, 74, of 200 Reeds Lane, Everson, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Community Church with the Rev. David Ashton officiating. She died Thursday (Aug. 22, 1991) at St. Joseph Hospital Main Campus. She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Vancouver, B.C., to Finley and Margaret McLaren. McLARTY, Grant, 78, of Lynden died Sept. 9., 1999, in Bellingham. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on Oct. 20, 1920, to Alexander and Henrietta (McLeod) McLarty. He spend 4? years in the Canadian Armored Corps and married Ellenor Smith in Sault Ste. Marie on Sept. 16, 1942. Mr. McLarty spent most of his professional career with Air Canada, joining the company in 1946 when it was Trans Canada Airlines. He retired in 1976 after working in senior management positions in Montreal, Vancouver, B.C., New York and Tampa, Fla. After his retirement, Mr. McLarty sold real estate in Tampa until moving to Lynden in 1986. He was involved in many business and community organizations, mostly in Canada. He was vice president of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, president of the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, and a director for the Ontario Society of Crippled Children, the Alberta Council for Crippled Children and Adults, and the Northwest Territories Tourist Association. He also was chairman of the Alberta Easter Seals Committee, vice president of the Alberta Tourist Association and president of the Airline Sales Manager's Association of New York. He enjoyed playing golf and the fiddle. He is survived by his wife, Ellenor, of the family home son Don McLarty of Singapore daughters Barbara Jones and Janet Fretter, both of Surrey, B.C. brothers Keith McLarty and Kenneth McLarty, both of Sault Ste. Marie sister Jean Mitchell of Gainesville, Fla. nine grandchildren and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by a son, Sandy, in 1953. No local services are scheduled. McLAUGHLIN, William J. of Bellingham died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, in Alderwood Park Convalescent Center. He was 73. At his request, no service will be held. Born Jan. 3, 1924, in Springfield, Mass., he married Billie Martin Reed in 1984 in Riverside, Calif. Mr. McLaughlin attended Cathedral High School and Maritime Service Officers' Training School, both in Massachusetts. An investor, he was a local resident since 1987. He was a member of the Bellingham Duplicate Bridge Club and of the Elks Lodge for 42 years. Survivors include son Sam McLaughlin, daughters Anna Hostetler and Dorene Andersen, sister Lucille Giblin of Springfield, Mass., and brother Edwin McLaughlin of Florida, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

McLEAN, Cyrus John Robert, October 17, 1927 – April 23, 2007, age 79, of Blaine, passed away Monday April 23, 2007 at his home. He was born to Mondie and C. H. McLean in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Cy attended Kingsley Boy's School in North Vancouver and went on to achieve a degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Illinois. He served with distinction during WWII with the U.S. Navy. Cy's long career in telecommunications started from the bottom up. He started as a lineman in Illinois, climbed to become Vice President with B.C. Telephone and peaked as Director of Government and Space Communications with GTE in New York. He retired with his wife Nancy and their Labradors in Blaine, Washington. He leaves behind his son John and grandchildren Stephanie and Ian. He will always be remembered driving his red convertible, walking his dogs, eating chocolate ice cream and dancing up a storm. McLEOD, Gladys Anna. Born in Spokane, daughter of Bernhardt and Sophia Mraz Schade. Graduated with a teaching diploma from Holy Names Academy, Spokane. Taught in Waterville, Washington, and for over thirty-five years in the Bellingham School System, where she became a noted and beloved teacher at Washington and Parkview Schools as well in the city's first Head Start Program. She was voted "Woman of the Year by the Bellingham Business Women"; was an officer in the Retired Teachers Association and the Aftermath Club; was several times president of the Broadway Garden Club; and served as a volunteer in many local charitable organizations. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and of numerous Catholic service guilds. She is preceded in death by her dear husband Daniel A. McLeood, she is survived by her sons, Donald B. of Bellingham and Jon Michael of Guesmas (sic) Island; her sister, Grayce C. Harris, Seattle; daughters-in-law, Jean and Darlene McLeod, Bellingham, and by six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. "Be kind to the little ones" was her life-long credo. McLOED, Harold R. - Funeral services for Harold R. "Mac" McLoed, 65, 2304 Vining st., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenacres Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Mace officiating. Mr. McLoed died Monday (June 30, 1986) at his home. He was born March 11, 1921, in Bowling Green, Mo., and had been a Whatcom County resident the past 41 years. Mr. McLoed worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Bellingham School District and attended First Advent Christian Church in Bellingham. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European campaign. Mr. McLoed was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, past president of S.E.I.U. Local No. 120 and a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Rachel, of Bellingham; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park.

McMASTER, William – A rosary was said and a memorial service for William McMaster of Reno, Nev., formerly of Everson, was held Jul 22 at Ross, Burke & Knobel Mortuary Chapel in Sparks, Nev. Mr. McMaster died Thursday, July 20, 2000 in Reno. He was 81. Born July 24, 1918 to Wiliam and Elizabeth (Maloney) McMaster in Rolla, ND, he lived in Reno for 18 years before moving to Everson. Mr. McMaster worked as a hospital maintenance engineer. In 1995, he moved back to Reno. Mr. McMaster was a Catholic and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and Merchant Marines. Survivors include his wife Jeanette of the family home; sons William McMaster of Reno and James McMaster of Palm Springs, Calif.; daughters Victoria Stewart and Michelle Sharkey, both of Reno; and six grandchildren.

McMILLIN, William, 76, following a long illness, died at his Lake Samish home Saturday (Nov. 14, 1925) evening. He had lived there five years and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cornelia McMillin; one son, Milton, of Lake Samish, and one brother, Monroe McMillin of Kingfisher, Okla. Funeral services will be held at Home Mark's mortuary at 2 p.m. Tuesday with George Martinich of the International Bible Students' association officiating. Interment will follow in Bay View cemetery.

McMILLAN, Elsie B. - A memorial service for Elsie B. McMillan of 3115 Squalicum Parkway will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Willows Retirement Apartments. Mrs. McMillan died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997. She was 83. Born May 15, 1913, in New Haven, Conn., she lived in Bellingham since 1992. She married Edwin McMillan on June 7, 1941, in New Haven. He died in 1991. Mrs. McMillan earned a degree in early-childhood education and was a published author of stories and poetry. She also was a lecturer and a homemaker. Survivors include daughter Anna Chaikin of Bellingham; sons David McMillan of Anacortes and Stephen McMillan of Petaluma, Calif.; sisters Molly Lawrence of Berkeley, Calif., Peggy Biles of Lincoln City, Ore., and Eunice Tyler of Bat Cave, N.C.; three grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews.

McMULLEN, Mary Herb, age 81 of Bellingham died Friday, May 9, 1997 at her residence. She was born September 12, 1915 in Erie, Ontario, to John James and Clara (Bloch) Herb. Mary attended schools in Bellingham and graduated from Forest Ridge Academy in Seattle where she was valedictorian of her class. Mary was a founding member of Mary Knight Guild of St. Joseph Hospital, a member of Bellingham Yacht Club and Assumption Church. She enjoyed her family and world travel. Mary is survived by her husband John P. "Jack" McMullen; sons J. Pat McMullen of Federal Way, and Mike H. McMullen of Bellingham; daughters Lynn Berry of Anacortes and Justine C. "Tina" McMullen of Tacoma; brother Francis J. "Bill" Herb of Bellingham; sister-in-law Mary Egan of El Cajon, CA; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. McMURCHIE, Catherine O. (Omlin), passed away suddenly a little after noon on December 6, 2006. A remarkable woman, she had celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and relatives on October 9, only two months before. She was a spirited, accomplished woman who freely gave her love to her large extended family and many friends. Catherine was born in the town of Acme, Washington, on Oct. 9, 1916, to Nikolaus and Mary Omlin. Growing up on a small farm in the country, she learned at a very early age how to ride horses, milk cows, and follow in her father's footsteps doing everything he did. A young teen during the 1920s and early 1930, she developed a self-reliance and spunkiness that guided her throughout her life. She graduated from Mount Baker High School in 1934, with considerable strengths in math and business. She moved to Bellingham after graduation and went to business school, studying bookkeeping, and later worked for many years for the Bellingham Lumber Company. While just 19 years of age, she met a handsome, soft-spoken, red-haired man at a dance in Bellingham. His name was Ernest McMurchie. They wed in the spring of 1936, beginning 62 years of devoted marriage for "Ernie and Catherine." Catherine excelled at everything she put her mind to. Her reputation as a bookkeeper kept her in demand by several employers who valued her attention to detail. She learned the German language, began communication with relatives in Switzerland, and ultimately traveled there. As a den mother in the Cub Scout pack that met at Carl Cozier School, she was widely liked because of the activities she organized for her den and the spirited fun that always accompanied them. During retirement, Catherine helped organize vacations to Alaska and Hawaii with friends. Although Catherine and Ernie had just one son, Larry, and their family was small, Catherine cultivated an extended "family" of relatives and friends. Catherine is survived by her son Larry McMurchie, grandson Patrick McMurchie, and granddaughter Sarah McMurchie. The memory of Catherine's spirit will live with us and with her many friends and extended family. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 16th,at 1:00 p.m. at Bayview Chapel at the funeral home. Lunch will follow the service.

McMURRAY, Genel R. Finkbonner, age 33, of Bellingham passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2006. She was born on February 21, 1972, in Bellingham to James and Shirley Finkbonner. Genel attended Bellingham High School and Northwest Indian College, and was invited to attend Harvard University. She won both the Pythian and AISES scholarships. Genel loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and swimming. She loved to play games, go bowling and do crafts. Genel was preceded in death by her son, Sawyer McMurray, father James Finkbonner, and grandparents Russel and Dora Thomas, all of Bellingham; and grandparents Fred and Velma Finkbonner of Ferndale. She is survived by her mother, Shirley Finkbonner of Bellingham; husband Dylan McMurray of Bellingham; brother Darrin Finkbonner and sister-in-law Betty Finkbonner; and sister Linda Finkbonner, all of Bellingham; nieces Ashley Holmberg of Olympia, WA, Tifanny, Nicole and Jessie Finkbonner of Bellingham and Tiffany and Nicole Cultee; nephews Justin Finkbonner and Jordan and Nathan Cultee of Bellingham; mother-in-law Gladys McMurray; and brothers-in-law Jake and A.J. McMurray, all of Bellingham; godfather Gerald Finkbonner; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church, 4195 Lummi Shore Road, Bellingham. Inurnment is scheduled for Friday, January 13, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Lummi Cemetery.

McNAIR, Robert Hilson, age 76, of Blaine, passed away at his home, Tuesday, May 31, (1955) following a lingering illness. He is survived by two sisters in the East; two brother, Alex McNair of Bline, Archie McNair of Milo, Maine; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 2, at 2 p.m. from the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine with Rev. Evan David officiating.

McNUTT, Herbert Francis of Everson died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. He was 92. Mr. McNutt was born March 27, 1905, in Vancouver, Wash., to Thomas and Dorothea (Maska) McNutt. He graduated from West Mill Plain School and attended Clark College one year. Both schools are in Vancouver. He worked for Columbia River Packers running a cannery tender during fishing season and did engine repair and painting, among other jobs, in the winter. He later became a sheet-metal worker in Vancouver. After moving to Bellingham, he worked for Snelson Plumbing in Sedro-Woolley and Haskell Corporation. He retired in 1960 as a sheet-metal worker and moved to Benure Island in Coronet Bay near Deception Pass, where he served as caretaker. Mr. McNutt and his wife moved to Everson in 1980 to be near their family. He married Lois Arnold on Sept. 29, 1934, in Camas. His hobbies included watching sports on television, reading the newspaper daily and working cross-word puzzles. Survivors include his wife of the family home; three sons, Herb A. McNutt of Everson, Jack McNutt of Mount Vernon and Pat McNutt of Burlington; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A family service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel and Crematorium of Bellingham.

McRAE, Midge (Cynthia Belle), 85, died peacefully on August 28, 2007, in her home at Diamond View Assisted Living in Meridian, Idaho. Her daughters Jan and Gretchen were at her side. She moved to the area after suffering a debilitating illness while living in Gig Harbor, Washington. Midge is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and her granddaughter Amy Wanke. Midge was born on January 28, 1922. Named Cynthia Belle by her parents Lloyd and Belle Owen, she was raised with her brother Evan Lloyd Jr., "Buck," in southwest Washington state. She was the first female from her high school to attend college. She graduated from WSU while married to Dr. Robert Bates, the father of Gretchen, Kelle, and Lindsay Lloyd, Auggie. After their divorce she married Dr. Loren L. Kittleson and moved the family to Lynden, Washington where they were blessed with two more children, Jan and Mike. While in Whatcom County Midge worked in the dental field: first as an assistant to Dr. Gary Vander Yacht and later to Dr. Bob Kline. She will easily be remembered by the many young clients whose fears were lessened by her drawings of turtles and the origami birds she would make for them. She could be seen with Mike at a car race, taking Jan to horse shows, or just hanging out with her numerous friends in that tiny community. Later she moved to her much loved beach house on the Lummi Reservation. Many good and funny memories are connected with that place. She hosted many parties and barbeques and was a good friend to many people. Later in her life she re-met her college sweetheart and was happily married to him for the next ten years. They lived for a time in Tacoma and then moved to the Gig Harbor, Washington area. She and Bobby McRae had many adventures together. "Checkmate," their sailboat, brought them through the San Juans and up the "inside Passage." They traded boats with fellow sailors and were able to sail the Aegean Sea. Bobby was a member of the International Executive Service Corps and they volunteered to go to Central America on several occasions. Bobby would do his engineering work while Midgie would teach English as a second language or set up a library using the "Midge decimal system." She also travelled extensively for fun. Several of her children have gone to Wales with her to visit relatives. She and Bobby were able to visit most of Europe, Belize, Puerto Rico, Central America and Mexico. She always said that language was never a barrier – a smile works wonders. After Bobby's death she chose not to sail anymore. Her later years were spent with several special friends. She never married again but continued to be active in the community with her bookclub, P.E.O., the American Association of University Women, and her years as a Hospice volunteer. At the age of 80, she became a Reiki practitioner and helped many people in the community. She donated the proceeds to charity. Midgie was good company, she listened well and was always available to share a laugh or a tear. She made the best wild blackberry pies imaginable and boy, did she love to dance. She would cut a rug at the least provocation. She will be greatly missed by her children: Gretchen Bates of McCall, Idaho; Kelle Bates Erikson of Eastport, Maine; Auggie Bates of Bellingham, Washington; Jan Kittleson of Vashon, Washington; and her baby, Mike Kittleson of Everson, Washington. Midgie had a special fondness for her sons-in-law Chuck Davis, Al Erikson and Steve Sunde. She also adored her daughter-in-law Denise Kittleson. Midge had a special place in her heart for many people she called her "kids." Among them are Peter Lara and Bonnie Berry. Bobby McRae's children: Scott and Mary Alice; as well as Danny, Georgia, Morgan and John were very special to her. Recently Midgie was fortunate enough to be included in the lives of her grandchildren: Chad and Brenda Wanke, as well as Brenda's fiancée, Scott Jenkins. She felt very lucky to be able to spend time with her great-grandchildren: Stearne and Saede Belle Breim. Midgie left a legacy of love, bravery, laughter, and generous spirit. We love her "around the world and back again." The family would like to thank the owners and staff of Diamond View Assisted Living, her doctors, and Hospice for helping make her last adventure a peaceful one. At Midgie's request, there will be no public memorial service. At a later date her family will gather at the beloved beach house to celebrate her life.

McROBERTS, William Edward - A memorial service for William Edward McRoberts of Lynden will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nooksack Valley Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Gary Sneff officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Memorial Park in Spokane. Mr. McRoberts died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Christian Health Care Center. He was 100. Born Nov. 7, 1897, to John and Lottie Dewar McRoberts in Indian Prairie, he lived most of his life in the Spokane and Chewelah areas. He moved to Lynden two years ago. He married Ora Rhoads Sept. 15, 1945, in Spokane. Mr. McRoberts was a wheat farmer in Indian Prairie and worked for Holsum Bakery in Spokane. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and attending Assembly of God churches in Spokane, Ferndale and Nooksack. Survivors include his wife of the family home; daughter, Lois Holmes of Lynden; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Gillies Funeral Home.

McSPADDEN, Margaret Gertrude - A graveside service for Margaret Gertrude McSpadden of Bellingham will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, with the Rev. Robert Christie officiating and military honors by American Legion Albert J. Hamilton Post 7. Mrs. McSpadden died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Bellingham Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 82. Mrs. McSpadden was born Oct. 20, 1916, to Harry and Dollina (McLeod) Hoxsey in Portland, Ore. She later married Bart C. McSpadden Jr. Mrs. McSpadden served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1957, she began her nursing career. She worked as an office nurse for a local doctor for many years. She volunteered to perform blood-pressure screenings at Fire District 3 in Laurel. Mrs. McSpadden was a member of American Legion Albert J. Hamilton Post 7. She enjoyed needlepoint and cooking. Survivors include daughters Susan Johanson of Lynden and Candace Brandt of Denver, brothers Jack Kurtz of Bellingham and Gordon Kurtz of Ferndale, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives. Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home of Ferndale.

McWILLIAMS, Lyle E. age 77, of 5439 Poplar Dr. Ferndale passed away Sunday, Aug. 25th (1985)in Bellingham. He was a Ferndale resident for 33 years & was a laborer & worked in the construction industry. He leaves to survive his wife Margaret; 3 daughters, Teresa Keys of Pataskala, OH, Louise Gusman of Bakersfield, CA, Lyla Benson of Ferndale; 2 sons, Marvin of Custer, & Loren of Ferndale; 2 brothers, Owen of Joplin, MO & Wayne of Mansfield, MO; 8 grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews. Graveside services will be held at Enterprise Cemetery Wed., Aug. 28th at 3 p.m., Rev. John Solberg officiating. Visitation will be Wed., Aug. 28th from 1-2 p.m. at the Moles Funeral Home Chapel.
