FJELLMAN, Elaine, age 90, of 4469 Sucia Drive, Ferndale, passed away in Bellingham on Friday, April 22, 1994. She was born on October 18, 1903 in LaBazy, Poland to Anton and Maria Zablocki; has lived in Whatcom County for 70 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie L. Fjellman on Dec. 18, 1990, whom she had married in Chicago, April 28, 1921; and by a grandson Jeff Beebe in Oct. 1978. She was a member of Wiser Lake Community Club, Laurel Grange, Sandy Point Community Council, Leisure Club of Bellingham and B'ham and Ferndale Senior Centers. Mrs. Fjellman was very devoted to her family and loved various arts, crafts, cooking and entertaining. Survivors include daughters, Connie Little & husband Royal, Yakima, Alice Bedoian & husband Albert, Clovis, CA, Marilynn Mayberg & husband Chuck, Seattle, Maxine Beebe & husband Marvin, Birch Bay, Janice Lind-Sherman & husband Vaughn Sherman, Mercer Island, Judy Meehan & husband Patrick, Norfolk, VA, a son Bob Fjellman & wife Nancy, Everett; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews including, Layton Fjellman of Seabeck, WA, Raymond Fjellman of Vancouver, B.C., and a cousin Armida Hopfinger of Ravenswood, W. VA. Funeral service will be Thursday, April 28, 1:00 p.m. at Moles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Matthews and Rev. Robert Drew officiating. Mrs. Fjellman had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 25 years. Surviving relatives include three sons, Ralph H., of Skokie, Illinois, Raymond E., of Laurel, and Leslie L., of Route 2, Lynden; one daughter, Mrs. Alice L. Boho, of Seattle; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Hilda Diattsson, of Sweden. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 26, at 2 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home with the Rev. FJELLMAN, Leslie L., 90, 4469 Sucia Drive, Ferndale, WA, passed away on December 18, 1990 at Sehome Park Care Center. He attended schools in the Chicago School District. He worked as a farmer, Shipyard worker, and retired from the Washington State Highway Department as a foreman. He was also in the Coast Guard Reserves. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters, Past Master of the Laurel Grange, former Fire Commissioner and founder of the Sandy Point Fire Department, member of the Garden Street United Methodist Church and was also nominated for Senior Citizen of the Year for Whatcom County. He married J. Elaine Zablocki on April 28, 1921, and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. He is survived by his wife, Elaine at the family home; a son, Robert and Nancy Fjellman of Everett, WA; daughters, Constance and Royal Little of Yakima, WA, Alice and Albert Bedoin of Clovis, CA, Marilynn and Charles Mayberg of Seattle, WA, Maxine and Marvin Beebee of Blaine, WA, Janice Lind and Vaughn Sherman of Mercer Island, WA, and Judy Helms of Norfolk, VA. There are 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Friday, December 21, 1990 at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Frank C. FJELLMAN, Raymond E., age 53, of Laurel, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, Dec. 5, (1956). Mr. Fjellman operated a service station and store at Laurel, had been a resident of this community the past 19 years, and was a member of the Laurel Grange. Surviving relatives include the widow, Vera May at the family home; a daughter, Joann; two sons, Raymond E. Jr., and Stanton C. E., all at home; two brothers, Ralph H. of Skokie, Illinois and Leslie L. of Lynden; one sister, Mrs. Alice Boho of Seattle; on grandchild, two step-sons, Frank Rasmussen of Pullman and Donald Rasmussen of Bellingham; one step-daughter, Miss Muriel Rasmussen of this city. The remains rest at the Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Carl A. Wright Monday, December 10, at 1 p.m. Final resting place Woodlawn.
FJELLMAN, Stanton Craig, age 45, of 5869 Guide Meridian, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, (1977) in a local hospital. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans No. 19 of Bellingham. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; 1 son, Jay; 2 daughters, Jill & Janna, all at home; 1 brother, Ray Fjellman of Vancouver, B. C.; 1 sister JoAnn Fjellman of Ireland, several other relatives. Services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. in Calvary Temple with Rev. Paul Cantelon officiating. FJELSTAD, Albert E., age 77 years of Blaine passed away Saturday, February 13, (1961). Mr. Fjelstad had been a resident of Blaine since 1936 and had owned and operated a garage until his retirement in 1956. He was a member of the Blaine Lutheran Church and is survived by his wife, Rose; one daughter, Mrs. Lowell Manner of Seattle; one sister, Miss Ella Fjelstad of Blaine; and one grandson, Dennie Jay. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Funeral services will be held at the McKinney Funeral Home in Blaine Wednesday, February 17, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ernst Nygaard officiating. Burial in the Blaine Cemetery.
FJELSTAD, Elina, 95, died Saturday in the Staffholt Icelandic Nursing Home in Blaine. Mrs. Fjelstad was born April 18, 1890, in Minnesota and had lived in the Blaine area since 1936. She worked as a seamstress, bookkeeper and babysitter. She was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church, formerly the Blaine Lutheran Church, and was a Sunday school teacher and treasurer. She was a charter member of the church and ladies' auxiliary, where she held many offices. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the Blaine area. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine, with the Rev. Dennis Wildermuth officiating.
FJELSTAD, Gloria Kvinge - A funeral service for former Lawrence resident Gloria Kvinge Fjelstad, age 55, was held Thursday, Oct. 12, 1989, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Cynthia Salo and Bishop David Wold officiating, assisted by the Immanuel choir. She was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Seattle and died Oct. 5, 1989, at E. Idaho Regional Medical Center after nine months' illness. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Orning B. Fjelstad, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three sons, Stephen and Daniel of Seattle, and Eric of Portland; her daughter, Gretchen of Idaho Falls, three daughters-in-law, Mary, Jeannie and Carolyn; three grandsons; and a niece and nephews. The Fjelstad family members were the first residents of Immanuel parsonage from 1964 to 1971. Later they served in churches in Alaska, Wenatchee, and Idaho. Committal service was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, at Lawrence, with a fellowship hour in the parish hall following. [They came to the Lawrence area from Seward, Alaska soon after the severe earthquake there.]
FJELSTAD, Rose, age 92, passed away Tues., Sept. 4, 1979 in a local nursing home. She was a long time area resident. Her husband, Albert, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Peter Smith of Blaine; a brother, Oscar Peterson of Minnesota; 1 grandchild; 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. FLACK, Edwin F. - A memorial service for Edwin "Ed" F. Flack of Lynden will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Lynden with the Rev. Bud Fraser officiating. His ashes will be placed in Lynden Cemetery. Mr. Flack died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was 84. Born July 7, 1912, to Frederick and Ella Schubert Flack in South Pasadena, Calif., he grew up and graduated from high school there. He received his Eagle Scout Badge in 1928. Mr. Flack married Jane Sampson on Nov. 8, 1939, in South Pasadena. He worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph for 31 years, retiring in 1972 as a supervisor of data processing. After retiring, he and his wife moved to the Lynden area, where he was a member of the former Glendale Mennonite Church and then of First Baptist Church. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a current member of Lynden Lodge No. 56 F.&A.M. He also was a member of Lynden Noon Kiwanis and the Telephone Pioneers of America, and volunteered at Lynden Pioneer Museum. Survivors include his wife, of the family home; daughters Catherine Booher of Temple City, Calif., and Barbara Bloomquist of Lynden; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Ellanore Asquith of Covina, Calif.; and numerous other relatives. FLACK, Zoe Naomi, age 64, of 516 N. Garden Street, passed away at home, Wednesday, March 2, (1955). Mrs. Flack had resided in this community for the past four years and leaves to survive her mother, Mrs. Maude Mann of Bellingham; two sons, George A. and Jack H. Flack, both of Saskatchewan, Canada; one daughter, Mrs. Maude A. Schafer of this city and two grandchildren. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where private Christian Science services will be read Friday, March 4, at 3 p.m. Final resting place Bay View.
FLAHERTY, Dennie, age 79, of Ferndale, passed away Thurs. Dec. 21, 1978. Mr. Flaherty had been a resident of Ferndale for the past 50 yrs. & was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He was a WWI Navy Veteran & Past Commander of Kulshan Post, American Legion. FLAHERTY, Mark Allen, age 36, of 2330 Maine St., Ferndale, passed away March 12, 1988 at home. He was born in Bellingham, Jan. 19, 1952. He was a lifetime Ferndale resident & a 1970 Ferndale H. S. Graduate. He was active in Slow Pitch Softball & an avid fisherman. Survivors include his brother, Rob & wife Ginger of Bellingham; sisters Kay & husband Mike Schulte of Custer, Sue & husband Greg Schulte of Birch Bay, Erin & husband Steve Morrow of Ferndale; parents, Robert & Darleen Flaherty of Ferndale; grandmothers, Yvonne Flaherty of Ferndale & Lila Nugent of Bellingham; his beloved nieces & nephews; numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. FLAHERTY, Roy Frank, age 83, member of Pioneer family, passed away at the Island Convalescent Center in Friday Harbor WA, Monday April 3, 1978. Born in Sedro Woolley, July 29, 1894, moved to Orcas Island in 1920. Surviving are 9 children: Arthur of Sedro Woolley, Alice Brown of Monroe, Maxwell of Eastsound, George of Friday Harbor, Terrence of Burlington, Michael of Eastsound, Patricia Loucks of Everett, Kathleen Arnold of Elma & Daniel of Elma. 32 grandchildren & 53 great grandchildren. A brother Dennis Flaherty of Ferndale & a sister, Hattie Finson of Sedro Woolley. Memorial service will be held April 15th on Orcas Island.
FLAHERTY, Yvonne B., age 86, of Ferndale, was born Aug. 16, 1904 in Woonsocket, S.D., and passed away Oct. 14, 1990 in Bellingham. Mrs. Flaherty was raised in Sedro Woolley - Clear Lake area and married Dennie Flaherty in 1923. They moved to Ferndale in 1929 and operated what is now the Ferndale Bakery for many years. They owned the Mt. View store for a short time during WWII and then reopened the bakery. Yvonne worked in the U.S. Post Office for several years in the 1940's and 1950's. She was active in volunteer work and served more than 25 years as a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Kulshan Post no. 154 of Ferndale, St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Ferndale and was active in church work. She was also a member of St. Anne's Guild. Survivors include sons Dennis Flaherty and wife Ruby, Robert Flaherty and wife Darlene, Wayne Flaherty and wife Leona all of Ferndale and Michael Flaherty of Bellingham; a sister Alex Parker of Sedro Woolley; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; numerous other relatives. Mrs. Flaherty was preceded in death by her husband Dennie Flaherty in Dec. of 1978. Evening prayer service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 7:00 p.m. at Moles Funeral Chapel and Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Father Pascuale Spoletini, S. J., on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenacres Memorial Park.
FLAKE, Dale L., age 72, passed away in Spokane, Tuesday, August 12, 1997. Mr. Flake was born and raised in Bellingham, WA. He graduated from Bellingham High School. Mr. Flake served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, after the war he married his wife Shirley. He worked as a journeyman auto mechanic until he graduated from Western Washington University in 1967. Mr. Flake then taught auto mechanics at Skagit Valley Community College until 1974 at which time he took a position teaching auto mechanics at Rhein Main AFB in West Germany for Big Bend Community College. In 1979 Mr. Flake moved to Spokane and taught auto mechanics at Spokane Community College until his retirement in 1986. He was also a talented artistic woodcarver and a lover of wild water fowl. Mr. Flake is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley at home in Spokane, his mother Mrs. Pearle Flake, of Mt. Vernon, WA, sister Mrs. Donna Berg also of Mt. Vernon, WA and four children: Claudia Manning of San Diego, CA, Shelley Hayes, of Bremerton, WA, Dennis Flake of South Lake Tahoe, CA and Barbara Danklefs of Spokane. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. No services will be held at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington, E. 1821 Sprague, Spokane, WA, is in charge of arrangements and cremation.
FLAMMANG, Anthony, age 69, of 1894 Harksell Rd., Ferndale passed away Sun. June 17, 1979. Mr. Flammang had been a resident of Ferndale since 1967, was a WWII Veteran, a member of the D.A.V., the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Lodge & was a retired Teamster. He is survived by his wife Gen of Ferndale. 3 sons; Dennys of Mount Lake Terrace, Kenneth & Gary both of Ferndale. 1 daughter, Rita Sylvester of B'ham. 2 brothers; Leroy of Blaine & Edward of Berthold, N. Dakota. 1 sister, Bernice Flammang of Minot, N. Dakota. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Phillip Bloom Weds. FLANAGAN, Gerald F., 70, 2613 Patton St., died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1986) in Bellingham. Mr. Flanagan was born April 9, 1916, in Custer, Mont., and had been a Whatcom County resident for many years. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Laborer's Union, Local 276. Survivors include an aunt, Helen Wellcome, of Bellingham. FLANDORFFER, Nellie, age 92, of 751 Chuckanut Dr., Bellingham, died Friday, Sept. 21, 1984. She had been a previous resident of Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by 1 daughter, Dorothy & son-in-law Harris Gonsalves, B'ham; nieces & nephews in Maryland. She is preceded in death by a son William G. Flandorffer in 1971. No services will be held. FLANIGAN, Edward - Funeral services for Edward "Patrick" Flanigan, 59, were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Gillies Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Slater officiating. Mr. Flanigan of Oak Harbor died Friday at the family home. His wife, Carol Preston Flanigan, is owner of Carol's Hallmark in Lynden. She survives at the family home. Mr. Flanigan was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Duquain, Pa. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was an insurance agent for United International Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. He enjoyed golf and fishing. Other survivors include stepchildren Kirk Preston of Stanwood and Kent Preston of San Diego. Arrangements are by Gillies Funeral Home.
FLATHER, Ann M., age 72, a Sedro Woolley resident died at her home Sat. Mar. 17, 1979. Survived by her husband, Emil of the family home. 3 daughters, Delores Savage and Arlene Gunderson both of Sedro Woolley, Marion Stroh of Springfield, Ore. 3 brothers, sisters, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. FLECK, Byarde Burdette (Bud), age 69 of 1000 Girard passed away Friday, February 18, (1966). Mr. Fleck had been a resident the past 35 years and was a retired representative of the Moore Business Forms. Life member of Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 194, Bellingham Yacht Club, Veteran of W.W.I. and a 48 year member of the American Legion, Alexander J. Hamilton Post. Survived by his wife Georgina, 1 stepson, Lee Bellingar, Warren, Mich; 1 step daughter Mrs. Betty Bellingar Willis, Hartford, Conn.; 3 grandchildren, 1 sister Mrs. Mae Fowler, Rufus, Ore.; 1 brother Bifford Fleck, Redmond, Ore. FLEENOR, Frank H., formerly of 528 Sterling Dr. passed away at the age of 91 in a local nursing home. Born in Clear Springs, MO, he came to this area many years ago. He is survived by his son Art in Everett, WA. Graveside services were held Thurs., Nov. 15, (1979) at Bayview Cemetery with Rev. Al Archer officiating. FLEISCHMAN, Shirley O. - Bellingham native Shirley Osborn Fleischman died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1993, in La Jolla, Calif., of an asthma attack. She was 69. A memorial service was held in La Jolla. Born and raised in Bellingham, she moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she worked for the Anchorage Daily Times. While in Anchorage, she met Robert Fleischman, an Army transport pilot during World War II. Married in 1944, they lived in New York and later in La Jolla. Mrs. Fleischman worked as a reporter for a Long Island newspaper, was a press representative for Nassau County, and worked for New York state legislators in Albany. She also worked for 10 years as research field supervisor for studies conducted by the University of Michigan and Temple University. Mrs. Fleischman also served on the board of the Marguerite E. Schwarzman Senior Emergency Loan Fund in San Diego. The fund provides financial aid for older people. Survivors include her husband; daughters Toby Ryan of Newport, R.I., Danita Sillers of Valencia, Calif., and Berdine Norton of Madison, Wis.; son Randal Fleischman of Oceanside, Calif.; sisters Doreen Rosenberg of Tarzana, Calif., and Donna Banks of Columbia, S.C.; half brother Richard Osborn of Roseburg, Ore.; half sister Helen Osborn of Seattle; and six grandchildren.
FLEMING, Anna E., age 80, of 197 Lake Whatcom Boulevard, passed away in a local hospital, Saturday, April 16, (1949) following a lingering illness. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham, and also a member of the W.C.T.U. and North Bellingham Grange. Surviving are her husband, Harry J. Fleming, and son Alex at home. Also one brother, Arthur Voye, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Services will be held from the Monroe Chapel, Monday, April 18, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Robert T. McFarlane officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
FLEMING, Clyde - Mrs. Clyde Fleming, 6259 Portal Way, Ferndale, died Monday, April 12, (1971). She was 74 years of age. Her husband passed away just two weeks ago. She is survived by a stepson, David Fleming, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Lula Keltner of Yakima, Mrs. Nettie Grigsby, Miami, Okla., Mrs. Odessa Wilkins, Lewiston, Idaho, Mrs. Oro Loomis of Mount Vernon; two brothers, William Heath of Lewiston, Idaho and Ellis Heath of Grand Junction, Colo. Graveside services will be held in Sedro Woolley Cemetery Thursday morning at 10:30 under the direction of Moles Funeral Home.

FLEMING, Edith K., age 72, of 1209 Roland St., died Wed. Jan. 14, 1981. FLESCHER, Don V., 86, of Bellingham, WA passed away in Bellingham on Thursday, December 2, 2004, the day after his and wife Grace's 65th wedding anniversary. He was born in Omaha, NE, to Edith (Norman) and Victor Flescher on Feb. 27, 1918. Don worked for 25 years at Mobil Refinery where, as a foreman, his main concern was for the safety of his workers. He lived a full life, doing what he wanted. He enjoyed bowling and politics, but he loved fishing and music most of all. Don was loved and respected by many. He was always ready to share his stories and his sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his sister Marion Cooper of CA. He is survived by his wife Grace; sons: Ronald and Roger Flescher of Bellingham, Donald and wife Diane Flescher of Salina, CA; daughter Barbara Ann Marie of Seattle; grandchildren: Rick and Karen Flescher of Bellevue, Rhonda and Marc Kriz of Bellevue, Rusty Flescher of Bellingham; great-grandchildren: Kelsey Kramer of Maple Valley, Austen, Dylan and Trenton Kriz of Bellevue, Kris and Craig Flescher of Salinas, CA; sisters Marjorie Gonnion of CA, Maxine Lyngaas of Sumner; numerous nieces and nephews; and in-laws: David Swendt, Lloyd and Mary Swendt of Bellingham, and Burt and Anne Swendt of Seattle. FLETCHER, Ned W., age 61 years, passed away at his home in Ferndale Thursday, March 7, (1946). Mr. Fletcher was a cook by occupation and had been a resident of Ferndale for the past 27 years. He served in World War No. 1, 27th Engineers, U.S. Army and was a past commander of Kulshan Post, American Legion in Ferndale. He is survived by relatives in Colorado and in the East. Mr. Fletcher was born May 1, 1934, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He lived in West Vancouver until 1960. He moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he worked in the aerospace industry for 30 years. He moved to Bellingham when he retired in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Wanda Fletcher; sons Ross Fletcher of California and Richard Fletcher of Hawaii; daughter Georgia Fletcher of California; stepson Daniel Davis of San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughters Pamela Cardoza and Julie Davis, both of Bellingham; and eight grandchildren.
FLETCHER, Shannon G. – A memorial service for Shannon Gill Fletcher of Bellingham will be at 5:30 pm Dec. 12 at St. Francis Church in Seattle (Burien/Seahurst area). Mr. Fletcher was murdered June 28, 1997 in Bellingham and his remains were found in October of this year. He was 39. Born April 28, 1958 to Hazel and Tom Fletcher Sr. in Seattle, he had lived in Bellingham for almost 20 years. He loved and respected the beauty and power of nature and traveled extensively. He also loved to restore old cars. Survivors include his parents, brothers Tom Fletcher Jr. and Shawn Fletcher and sister Ramona Fletcher.

FLICK, John Milton, age 78, of Route 1, Burlington, passed away Tuesday, June 21, (1977). He was a member of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44 F&AM, the Alger Grange Hall, Alger Improvement Club. He was employed by the Union Iron Works and Knute Evertz in Bellingham and the Skagit Steel in Sedro Woolley. He resided in Bellingham for 47 years and moved to Alger where he resided for 31 years. FLICK, Louis C., age 91 of 602 Briar Rd., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 1979. Mr. Flick had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 73 years and was retired from Darigold, working there 35 years, a retired member of the Teamsters Local No. 231, a member Whatcom County Dairymens Association. FLINT, Alda E., age 100, of 2068 Main St., Ferndale, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 11, 1986. She was born in Uniontown, WA on July 19, 1885, was a resident of Ferndale for the last 16 years, prior to that lived in Cottonwood, Idaho. She was a member of the Ferndale United Church, was a former member of the Cottonwood Community Church where she was Sunday School Superintendent of the Junior Dept. She was a school teacher and a bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Flint in July 1974. She leaves to survive a son, Dr. Weldon C. Flint and wife, Louise of Ferndale; a sister, Pearl Lunt of Kennett Square, Penn.; grandson William W. Flint and wife, Thea of Sedro Woolley; two granddaughters, Susan and husband, Dr. Larry Forsythe of Mt. Vernon, Elizabeth and Douglas Bateman of Toledo, Oregon; great grandchildren, Lt. FLINT, Anna Laura, age 77 years, of 308 Irving, passed away at a local hospital Sunday evening, January 13, (1946). FLINT, Deric T. - Private graveside services will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park for Deric T. Flint, who died Thursday (Sept. 6, 1990) at the age of two months at Children's Hospital in Seattle. FLINT, Fred, age 76, of Custer, passed away in a local hospital Monday, Sept. 5, (1960). Mr. Flint had been a resident of the Custer area since 1893 and was a member of the Border Patrol, serving in Custer and Blaine area for 29 years, retiring in 1952. FLINT, Lohman A., age 62 years, of Route 2, Blaine, passed away in La Havre, France on Nov. 20, (1956) following a short illness. He had been a marine engineer with the Merchant Marine and he was working in that capacity at the time of his death. Mr. Flint had served in the Navy during World War I and was a member of the Albert J. Hamilton Post of the American Legion. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Nolla Compton of Wenatchee. On June 6, 1984, she married David Heebner. Mrs. Flint-Heebner was a manicurist. An outdoors enthusiast, she enjoyed hiking, boating, sailing and camping. Gregory was a lifetime resident of this community having graduated from the Nooksack Valley High School with Athletic Achievements in Football, Baseball and Wrestling. He was an Eagle Scout and at one time received the Newsboy Award. He served with the U. S. Army in the Vietnam war area. FLOCKOI, Raymond M., of Bellingham, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2005, in Bellingham. He was 77, born in Bellingham on November 2, 1928 to Emma (Christofferson) and Raymond Flockoi, Sr. Upon graduating from Bellingham High School in 1946, Ray joined the Marine Corps. He served in Japan and then Korea during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge as Sergeant, Ray entered law enforcement in Bellingham and Whatcom County. After 11 years, he went on to work as a security supervisor for Georgia Pacific Corp. for 15 years. After moving to Edmonds, Ray worked as a truck driver and covered seven northwest states. After seven years, he retired and was later hired by the City of Edmonds as the court officer in Edmonds Municipal Police Court. After 10 years, Ray moved back home to Bellingham to be with his family and friends. During his years inn Bellingham, Ray was involved with Ski-to-Sea festivities. In Edmonds, he was Chamber volunteer during the annual July 4th parades. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and son Gregory Flockoi. He is survived by his ex-wife Candy; daughters Peggy Flockoi-Olson and Susan Pierson; son Robert Flockoi; stepdaughter Christie Collelo; grandchildren Gregory Flockoi, Jr., Mike Rudy, Steven Rudy, Jennifer Taber, and Cody Pierson of Alabama; and seven great-grandchildren and special friend Tania Bowhay. A Graveside Inurnment Service will be held at 1: p.m. Wednesday, January 4th, at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale. Following the service a reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Bellingham Elks Lodge.

FLORAND, Roy, age 58, of Bellingham, passed away Tues. Feb. 9, (1988) in Tacoma. He had been a commercial fisherman, member of Bellingham Elks Club, Navy veteran of WWII and Merchant Seaman, former member of Bellingham Yacht Club. Survived by his daughter, Michelle Florand of Portland; 1 brother, Bill Johnson, Calgary, Canada. Funeral services will be conducted Fri. FLORENCE, Albert Leslie, 64, a retired marine supply salesman from Ketchikan, died in Bellingham Tuesday (Aug. 24, 1965). Mr. Florence attended St. John's Episcopal Church in Ketchikan and was a member of Ketchikan Lodge of F. & A.M., life member of Scottish Rites Bodies, a member of Nile Temple of Shrine, Ketchikan Post of the American Legion and Lodge 1429 of BPOE. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nadine Lodge of Ketchikan; four grandchildren and one uncle, Robert Florence of Bellingham. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn C. Carlson and officers of Whatcom Lodge 151 of F&AM officiating. Cremation will follow.
FLORENCE, Albert Lewis, age 73, of 2509 Elm St., passed away in a local hospital Friday, Dec. 12, (1958). Mr. Florence had resided in this community for the past five years and was a retired carpenter. Deceased was a member of Bremerton Lodge No. 145, I.O.O.F., and leaves to survive his widow, Maude E., at home; two sons, A. L. Jr., and L. W. Florence, both of Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Harvie Cox of Spokane, and Mrs. Stanley Williams of Concord, Calif.; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Elvin E. of Bremerton; four sisters, Mrs. F. C. Chafin and Mrs. Thomas Burphy, both of Bremerton; Mrs. Earl Roberts, of North Bend, Wn., and Mrs. Marie Dyman of Oakland, Calif. FLORENCE, Calvin L., age 27 years, passed away in a hospital in Vancouver, Wash., Tuesday, December 14, (1948). Calvin served his country in World War II for six years in the U.S. army with the 35th Infantry, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the B.P.O.E. He had been confined to the hospital since his release from service. He was born and raised in Bellingham, later moving with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Florence to Alaska, where the parents still reside at Ketchikan; also one sister, Nadine Florence, numerous other relatives survive. Funeral services will be conducted at the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home, Saturday, December 18, at 10:30 a.m. with the American Legion, Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7 in charge, followed by cremation.
FLORENCE, Clyde, 75, a former Bellingham resident, died Saturday (13 Sep 1980) in Aberdeen where he had been living. He was born in bow and attended school in Bellingham. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, a son, a daughter, a brother, two sisters, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held today at Fernhill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.
FLORENCE, Frank, 80, of Ukiah, Calif., died Monday (Oct. 26, 1987) in his home. He was born Feb. 2, 1907, in Bellingham. He married his wife, Zelda, in 1932 and joined the Merchant Marines in 1940. Survivors include his wife, Zelda, of Ukiah; two daughters, Sandy Duncan of Bend, Ore., and Sheree Reeger of Ukiah; two sisters, Agnes Iredale of Bellingham and Jean Locke of Bend; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. There will be no services. Burial will be in Ukiah.

He was a teacher in the Bellingham Vocational Institute and was a veteran of WWII. FLORENCE, Maude E., age 78, Tucson, Arizona, passed away in that city Sunday, April 25, (1965). Mrs. Florence had resided in this city for five years before moving to Tucson six years ago, and was the widow of Albert L. Florence, Sr., who passed away in 1958. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Bremerton. Survivors are two sons, Albert L., city; L. Wesley, city; two daughters, Mrs. Valda Cox, Spokane; Mrs. Grace Williams, Concord, Cal.; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Grace Brown of Seattle. The remains will be received by the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. Joe Walker Monday, May 3 at 1 p.m. Cremation will follow.

She married Wesley on January 22, 1934 in Bremerton. Mrs. Florence worked for the Bellingham School District as a cook for 23 years. FLORES, Robert - Funeral services for Robert Flores, of Bellingham, will be held in the Chapel of Gillies Funeral Home today, Feb. 21, 1990, at 1: p.m. with Father Tim McKenna officiating. Father McKenna also officiated at the Recitation of the Holy Rosary in the chapel on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Lynden Cemetery following the funeral service. Mr. Flores passed away at his home after a long illness on Saturday evening, Feb. 17, (1990) at the age of 45. He was born on June 6, 1944, in McAllen, Texas. On Feb. 24, 1984, he was married to Beverly Henry in Craigmont, Idaho, and that same year they came to Whatcom County. Mr. Flores was a farm laborer and most recently worked for Gene Bedlington in flowers and bulbs. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lynden. Robert is survived by his wife, Beverly, of the family home; three sons, Robert Flores Jr., Tony Flores and Joe Flores, all of Lamont, Calif,; five step-daughters, Cecelia Beirly of Juneau, Alasak, Juanita DeRose, Dorothea Skalisky, Beverly McDaniels and Joni DeRose, all of Lewiston, Idaho. FLOTRE, Helga S. - Funeral services for Helga S. (Johanson) Flotre of Bellingham will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Everson, followed by burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with the Rev. Stanley Jacobson officiating. Mrs. Flotre died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at her home. She was 98. Born Sept. 20, 1901, to John and Hilda (Haaheim) Johanson on Vesterilen Island, Norway, her family immigrated to the United States in 1907 and she had lived in Whatcom County since. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Flotre sister Clara Jakeway two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Survivors include daughters Arvella Scutvick and Ruby Linderman, both of Bellingham brother Harold Johanson of Bellingham four grandchildren six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. FLOTRE, Melvin Jerome, age 62, 3698 Brown Road, Ferndale, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1993 while hunting in Montana. He was born on May 16, 1931 in Boone County, NE to Thor and Rachel Flotre. He married Alice Johnson on Nov. 26, 1948 in Mt. Vernon. Melvin retired from Mobil Oil Corp. and B.P. Oil after 37 years employment. He was a member of U.S. National Guard. After retirement he liked to go hunting for big game. He is survived by his wife Alice of the family home; daughter Carol and husband Jim Kean, Ferndale; son Mike Flotre, Ferndale; two grandchildren Trisha and Todd Kean, Ferndale; sister Melvyna Rice, Ferndale; brother Tilman Flotre, Lynden; numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 26, 3:00 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park with Pastor Michele Campton officiating.
FLOTRE-MESSINGER, Phyllis, 61, of Napa, Calif., and formerly of Bellingham died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 1994, in Fairfield, Calif. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, Napa. Inurnment will be private and no visitation is planned. Mrs. Messinger was born in Bellingham on June 16, 1933, to Walter W. and Bertha (Martin) Herrin. She was educated in Bellingham and attended Western Washington University. She graduated from the University of San Francisco. She was a career Navy wife and was stationed with her husband throughout the world. when he was stationed in Washington, D.C., she taught school in Maryland, and more recently taught in several schools in the Napa area, where she'd lived since 1972. She was very active in the Women's Organization for the Republican Party. Survivors include her husband, Paul A. Messinger of the family home in Fairfield; daughters Robyn Miller of Mount Vernon, Nancy Macy of Puyallup, Shannon Flotre of Seattle, and Lisa Crane of Napa; son Scott Flotre of Napa; brothers Wesley Herrin of Blaine and Russell Herrin of Edmonds; sister Marjorie Heidenrick of Tacoma; and five grandchildren.

She was a member of Central Lutheran Church, the Birthday Club and Sunset Club. She is survived by her husband, Thor; one daughter, Mrs. Melvina Rice, Ferndale; three sons, Ted and Tilman, Bellingham, and Melvin, Blaine; four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Jensen, New Jersey, three sisters and a brother in Norway; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. FLOTRE, Vita Fern Bailey, 89, formerly of Ferndale, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 1993, in Gig Harbor, WA. She was born in Cedar Rapids, NE Aug. 2, 1903 and grew up on the family farm in Albion, NE. She graduated from Teacher's College in McPherson, KS; taught school for six years in both Nebraska and Kansas. In April 1932, she married Rudolph A. Flotre, a farmer. Drought and depression brought them to Pleasant Valley and Custer where they had a dairy farm. After Rudolph's death in 1960, she worked as a residence director at Western WA Univ. for seven years and at various other jobs. Vita had a wry and understated sense of humor which she kept 'til the end, as well as a love of learning and interest in the world. She spent the last few years in Tacoma with her sister. Survived by sister Marian Lucille Bailey, Tacoma; 3 sisters-in-law Bertha R. Bailey and Myrne I. Bailey both of Ferndale; Lena S. Coughlin, Seattle; 5 nephews Richard Bailey, Arlington; Gary Bailey, San Diego; Ronald and Timothy Bailey, Ferndale; Wm. Perry Bailey, TN; 4 nieces Lola Nelson, Omaha, NE; Sharon Carlson, Ferndale; Christine Bailey, Seattle; Kay Kelly, Seattle; many grand nieces and grand nephews and other relatives. FLOTREE, Arthur M., age 74, of Burlington died Thursday, July 14, 1983 at United General Hospital, Sedro Woolley. He was born April 5, 1909 in Bellingham. A son of Anton & Martha Flotree. He was educated in Bellingham schools and attended the Bellingham Business College & Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma. He served with the National Guard and following his honorable discharge enlisted in the United States Navy in 1928. He married Frances Westman in 1933 and she died in 1970. His marriage to Muriel DeCamp took place April 3, 1971 in Mt. Vernon. He had made his home in Burlington since that time. Mr. Flotree was a retired 35 year member of the Carpenter's Union, member of the Burlington United Methodist Church and Elks Lodge No. 1604 Mt. Vernon. Surviving are his wife Muriel at home, one daughter, Sondra Dykie, Perkiomenville, PA, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one step-son, Gilbert DeCamp, Burlington, one brother Irving Flotree, Olympia, a 101 yr. old aunt, Christine Johnson, Bellingham, a 95 yr. old uncle, Martin Flotree of Everson and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18 at the Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington, Pastor Fred Rarden of the Burlington United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ferndale.

FLOTREE, Sadie O., 96, 2726 Alderwood, Bellingham, died Sept 4, 1990 in Bellingham. She was born Oct. 29, 1893 in Newman Grove, NE and had been a Whatcom County resident since 1936. Miss Flotree had taught school in Nebraska and S. Dakota for 23 years. She had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church and more recently was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church of Ferndale. Survivors include sisters, Peg Coughlin of Seattle and Bertha Bailey of Ferndale. Sister-in-law, Vita Flotre of Tacoma. Nieces, Kay Kelley of Seattle and Shari Carlson and husband Ron of Ferndale. Nephew Ron Bailey and wife Susan of Ferndale. 6 great nieces and nephews and 6 great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Rudolph & Oscar Flotree. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 7, 1:00 p.m. at the Moles Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. R. L. Christensen & Rev. Dick Mattila officiating. Burial will follow at Enterprise Cemetery.
FLOTREE, Stephen, age 67, of Rt. 2, Everson, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Nov. 28, (1962) following an extended illness. A resident of the Everson area since 1905 he served with the United States Navy during World War I and was a retired logger. He was a member of the Emmanual Lutheran Church of Lawrence and the William Mathews Post No. 1585 VFW. Surviving are three brothers, Martin of Everson, Robert of Vallejo, Calif., Anton of Bellingham; two sisters, Miss Ida Flotree and Mrs. Tillie Coles, both of Everson; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. with Pastor R. M. Bremer officiating. Burial will follow in Emmanual Luthern Cemetery.
FLOWERS, Bertha R., died Saturday, April 17, 1993, at Burton Care Center in Burlington. She was 90. At her request no services will be held. She was born April 8, 1903, on Fir Island to Ingeborg and Ole Moen. She attended Mount Vernon High School and married Ashleigh Flowers on March 22, 1922. He preceded her in death in 1973. Mrs. Flowers worked for Northern State Hospital and was a member of Skagit Rock and Gem Club. Survivors include son Wilfred Flowers of Bellingham; daughters Shirley Sparrs of Burlington, Dorothy Kelly of Kent, Rita Hangstefer of Sedro-Woolley, Anita Ricci of Snohomish and Patricia Bass of Bellingham; brother Henry Moen; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Hulbush Funeral Home in Burlington.

A lifetime resident of Whatcom County he was a member of First Baptist Church of Bellingham; Twin Sister Grange; Goshen Grange; Clamdigger Association of Whatcom County; attended Clipper Grade school for 8 years and later attended the University of Washington. FLOWERS, Wilfred, 76, left this world on his terms, at his home in Bellingham, with his loving family by his side on October 10, 2005. He was born in Burlington on November 25, 1928, to Ashleigh and Bertha Flowers. He served in the Marine Corps and U.S. Geodetic Survey. He retired in 1990 after 30-plus years in the logging industry. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen in 2001 and a sister, Shirley Sparrs of Burlington. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Trowse and Jim Flowers, both of Bellingham; two daughters, Casey Birmingham of Bellingham and Wendy Smith of Bremerton; one son-in-law Al Birmingham of Bellingham; four sisters, Dorothy Kelly of Kent, Anita Ricci of Burlington, Pat Bass of Bellingham, and Rita Hangstefer of Caldwell, ID; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. At his request, no services will be held. There will be a gathering of family and friends at a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of Jerns Funeral Chapel.

A. W. VerHoef officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Fluit, of 7372 Guide Meridian, Lynden, was born in Larchwood, Iowa on June 23, 1930. A retired farmer, he moved with his family to the Lynden area from Rock Rapids, Iowa in 1978. He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Lynden, served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict and while in Iowa was a member of the John Birch Society and the Farm Bureau. He was married to Elizabeth VanHofwegen in Rock Rapid, Iowa on December 29, 1954. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; two daughters, Mrs. Harriet and husband Henry Kattenberg of Doon, Iowa and Mrs. Charlotte and husband Scott Pitman of Lynden; three sons, Teunis E., Henry D., and Patrick S. all at home; two grandsons; his mother Mrs. Anna Fluit in Rock Valley, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Marie Kastor and Mrs. Joyce DeJong, both of Hull, Iowa; four brothers, Wilmer and Henry of Rock Rapids, Iowa, John of Inwood, Iowa and Clarence of LuVerne, Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews.

FLYNN, Grover T., age 65 years, of 2183 Mount Baker Highway passed away suddenly at the family home Friday, Aug. 8, (1958). Mr. Flynn had been a resident of this community since 1919. He was a veteran of World War I and a retired boomman. Surviving relatives include his wife, Almina E., at the family home; three sons, Larry of Seattle, Delbert and James, both of Bellingham; four grandchildren, Stephen and Nancy Flynn of Seattle and Scheryl and Bradley Flynn of Bellingham; three brothers, Robert and Delbert of Friday Harbor, and Fred of Tacoma; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Vander Schaaf of Friday Harbor and Mrs. Grace Lundsford of Raymond, Wash. FLYNN, Hazel, 82, 700 32nd St., Bellingham, passed away Saturday, June 26, (1982). She was born May 13, 1900 in Michigan and was a local resident for 50 years. She was employed many years at St. Joseph Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lynden Chapter, a member of the Nursing Association and Hospital Guild, and attended Assembly of God Church in Sedro Woolley. She is survived by one son, Clement Flynn of Bellingham; one daughter, Janet Wilsen of Arizona; a sister, Agnes Barker of Bellingham; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will we held Friday, July 2 at 11 a.m. in Calvary Temple. Pastor John Kolinda officiating.
FLYNN, Margaret Isabelle, age 85, who resided at 1318 Forest St., passed away in a local hospital on Sunday, Dec. 24, (1961) following an extended illness. Mrs. Flynn had resided in Bellingham for the past 59 years and was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church and also the Seahome Chapter of OEA [OES?]. She leaves to survive three sons, Edwin of Lynden, Harry of Long Beach and Russell of Cypress, Calif., numerous grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rev. Don Swerdfeger, pastor of the Garden St. Methodist Church will conduct funeral services on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home. FLYNN, Patricia E., of Front St., Issaquah, a native of Olean, N. Y., died Sun. Feb. 2, (1986) in the Veterans Hospital in Seattle following a long illness. Born May 13, 1941 in Olean, she was a daughter of Charles A. and Cecelia Dennis Flynn. Miss Flynn had served with the Army as a computer operator and she was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Issaquah. Surviving besides her father of Cuba (NY?) are 2 sisters, Mrs. Dale (JoAnn) Miller of Cuba & Mrs. Dolores Lynch of San Diego, Calif.; several nieces & nephews.
