EDBERG, Amanda E., age 84, of 1431 Iron St., passed away in a local hospital, Sunday, Aug. 31, (1958). Mrs. Edberg had resided in this community for the past 50 years; was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, member of Willard WCTU, and of the World War I Mother's Club. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Ferngren of Bellingham; three grandchildren; one brother, William P. Taylor, Valdasta, GA., four sisters, Mrs. Mayme Rayner of Everett, Mrs. Effie Lucas, Mrs. Mildred Root and Mrs. Edith Wall, all of Seattle; many nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by the Rev. C. W. Wheeler, Thursday, Sept. 4, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place Bay View.
EDINGER, Jessie Squires, a long-time resident of Centralia and Chehalis, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at a Bellingham assisted-care facility after an extended illness. She was 87. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Church in Centralia, after a private burial service. She was born in 1912 in Chehalis to Alexander D. and Anna Baker Squires. She worked for her father, a building contractor and hardware store owner in the 1930s and attended University of Washington. She married John B. Edinger, the late owner and publisher of The Chronicle, in 1937. They divorced in 1964. He died in 1986. Mrs. Edinger was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Centralia and its Altar Guild, P.E.O. Chapter X, Eastern Star. She was active in several cotillion and bridge circles in the Twin Cities and enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling and working in precinct politics. Survivors include sons John B. Edinger Jr. of Southport, NC, and Richard S. Edinger of Hillsboro, Ore; daughters Jean Rohr of Fox Island and Carol Robinson of Bellingham; sister Cleona Useldinger of Stanwood; six nieces; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Jerns Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
(From The Bellingham Herald, 5,7 Mar 2000) Submitted by Merrily Lawson.EDDINGTON, Dick - A memorial service for Dickey Wayne Eddington, formerly of Bellingham, will be held outdoors at the Five Ten Restaurant in Langley, Wash. In the event of rain, the service will be held at Langley United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Mr. Eddington died of AIDS Thursday, July 10, 1997, in Seattle. He was 32. He was born Aug. 9, 1964, in Missouri. Mr. Eddington moved to Oak Harbor in 1988 and to Clinton in 1991. He worked for Ennen Food Stores. The first HIV/AIDS outreach worker for Whatcom County Health Department, he served in that position from 1992 to 1994. In Island County, he worked for the Health Department's Whidbey HIV Intervention Project training teen-agers to become peer educators. Mr. Eddington received the Red Cross-sponsored HIV Educator of the Year Award for Region 3 AIDS Service Network in 1994. He was a board member of Whidbey AIDS Support Fund, volunteered for Hands Off Washington and Evergreen AIDS Support Services, acted in local drama productions and was a Sunday school teacher at Langley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed flowers and gardening and working with young people. Mr. Eddington was preceded in death by his partner, Gary Childers, his parents, one brother and one sister. Survivors include sisters Georgia, Doris and Vickie and brothers David, Danny, John David and Winfield. Arrangements are by Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle.
EDDY, Dorothy passed away Friday March 29, 2002. Born in Blaine November 7, 1911, the daughter of Louis and Alice Montfort, she lived in Blaine her whole life except for a short period in the 1930's. She worked as a clerk-typist for the U.S. Immigration Service and U.S. Border Patrol for more than 30 years. She is survived by her son, Louis of Randle, WA and her sister, Mary Pesco, of Des Moines, WA. She was preceded in death by her son, William, her sister, Elizabeth Hughes, her twin brother, Donald Montfort and a brother, Lawrence Montfort, who died in infancy. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Blaine Cemetery. Arrangements and services are by the Jerns McKinney Funeral Chapel of Blaine.
EDDY, Ernest R., age 83, of Bellingham, passed away Thursday, July 3, 1997 at his home. He was born March 10, 1914, in Natoma, Kansas to Ralph and Vida Eddy and was a resident of Whatcom County for 22 years. Mr. Eddy married Ethel Bomhoff May 5, 1940 at the Methodist Church of Osborn, KS. Mr. Eddy was a mechanic, having owned his own business from 1948-1980. During Mr. Eddy's career, he assisted in building B-25 Bombers during the early part of WWII. During the year of 1944, Ernest did instrument testing on P-51 Mustangs. Mr. Eddy enjoyed gardening, antique '50s cars, English sport cars, Jaguars and MG's. Ernest lived through the Dust Bowl years in Kansas, but was saved by WWII and North American Aviation in Los Angeles, CA. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ethel Eddy, Bellingham; son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and June Eddy, Bellingham; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lola and George Schmidt, Manhattan, KS, Eileen and Hank Vette, Colby, KS; five nieces & nephews. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 8, 1997, 11:00 a.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park. The Reverend Richard Talley of First Christian Church officiating. EDDY, Frances G., 74, of 1151 BayView Edison Rd. sp 34 Mount Vernon, WA, passed away June 3, 1991 in Bellingham, WA. She was born Feb. 27, 1917 in Worland, Wyoming of parents Arthur T. and Myrtle F. Clayton. She is survived by her husband Arthur H. Eddy, by a son Donald L. Eddy of Concrete, two daughters Maurine F. Anderson of Bellingham and Marion H. Bryan of Tacoma, also by nine grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Frances has been associated with the Burlington, WA Congregation for about 5 years. EDDY, Guy F., age 67, who was a former resident of Seattle, Wash. passed away in a local hospital on Thursday, Nov. 9, (1961) following an extended illness. Mr. Eddy was a member of the Church of the Assumption and until his retirement was employed by the Navy Yard as a Tinsmith. He leaves to survive his mother, Mrs. Emma Eddy of Blaine, 1 son, James of Long Beach, his daughter, Mrs. Jean O'Neil also of Long Beach, 3 sisters, Mrs. Rhuey Bannon of Blaine, Mrs. Adele Crook of Milton, Wash., Mrs. Neita Ballinger of Tonasket, Wash., 1 brother, Leslie Eddy of Newport, Wash., also numerous other relatives. Rosary will be recited in the Chapel of the Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Requiem mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Assumption on Monday, Nov. 13 at 9:30 a.m.
EDDY, Russell Dale - Funeral services for Tech. Sgt. Russell Dale Eddy, 34, USAF retired, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Moles Funeral Home, Ferndale. He died Saturday in Spokane. Survivors include the widow, Patricia; two sons Steven and David, at home; his mother, Mrs. Florence Carlson of Spokane; three sisters, Mrs. Richard Tennant of Onondaga, Mich., Mrs. Edward Bailey and Miss Barbara Eddy of Spokane; and a brother Dennis of Spokane. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial park with military honors.
EDDY, William E., age 50 who resided at 481 "F" Street, Blaine, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, November 16, 1982. He had been a life time resident of Blaine. He leaves to survive his mother, Dorothy Eddy of Blaine; 1 brother, Louis Eddy of Randall; 3 aunts, Mary Pesco of Bremerton; Elizabeth Hughes of Seattle; Leona Jones of Gig Harbor; 2 uncles, Charles Eddy of Marysville; Robert Eddy of California. EDDY, William G., age 65, of 1925 Lake Whatcom Blvd. passed away in a local hospital Friday, Nov. 4, (1960). Mr. Eddy had resided in this community for the past 37 years and had been Superintendent of the local Darigold Plant. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Congregational Church and Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion. Surviving relatives are his widow, Olive S. at home; three brothers, Harold T. of Indianola, Wn., Roy of Newport, Wn. and Homer of Mexico City; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Whitaker of Everson, also many nieces and nephews. EDEN, Carl Henry, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eden, of 1706 Lakeway Dr., passed away in a local hospital Saturday, Aug. 27, (1955). Besides the parents, he is survived by the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Johnson of Roberts, Idaho, and grandmother, Mrs. Pearl L. Tucker of Pocatello, Idaho. EDENS, Annette, age 66, of 3025 Eldridge Farm, passed away in a local hospital Friday, November 2, (1951). Miss Edens had maintained her home here during most of her lifetime and was well known as an artist, both here and in the East. Prior to her retirement in 1945 she had been an art instructor in Cleveland, Ohio, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Ohio, and the University of Washington. She leaves to survive, one sister, Mrs. C. W. Henderson; one niece, Mrs. Humphrey Griggs; three grand-nephews, Peter, Eden, and John Griggs, and two cousins, Mrs. Robert Pew and Mrs. Henry Jukes, all of this city. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where private services will be conducted by the Rev. James Martyn Wilson Monday, November 5, at 11:30 a.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
EDENSO, Victor, age 70, of 2829 Tongass Ave., Ketchikan, Alaska passed away while visiting Mon. Oct. 16, 1978. Mr. Edenso was retired from the Alaska State Ferry System. Was a member of the Royal Order of Moose & Alaska Native Brotherhood. He leaves to survive his wife, Evelyn r. of the family home. 7 sons; Victor Jr., Ralph & Colin all of Ketchikan. Mrs. Eder had resided in Bellingham for the past 10 years, and leaves to survive 1 daughter, Hilda Dalien of Spanaway, Wash.; 2 grandsons; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother in Austria. EDERER, Cleona May, age 68 years, of Olympia, Wash., passed away at that place, Saturday, November 20, (1948) after a brief illness. Mrs. Ederer had been a resident of Bellingham previous to moving to Olympia ten years ago. She is a member of the Sacred Heart church. Surviving relatives include two brothers, Arthur L. Pendleton, Marysville, Wash., and Walter E. Pendleton, Custer, Wash.; also numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in Bellingham and spent 25 years of his life as a Mink Farmer, a member of The Assumption Church, the Mink Association and the Snowking Hound Association, also a WWII Navy Veteran and is survived by his wife Beatrice, 2 sons, Michael of Bellingham, Joseph of Bellingham, & 2 daughters, JoAnne Severson of Bellingham, Patricia Taylor of Ferndale, his mother, Margaret Curtis, 2 sisters, Elenor Kennedy of Sedro Woolly (sic), Mrs. Lucille Taylor of Bellingham, and 7 surviving grandchildren. EDERER, Joseph E., age 49 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret Ederer, 1604 Larrabee Street, passed away suddenly (May 9, 1947) at Seldovia, Alaska, where he had gone to work as a pile-driver for the General Fish Company. Mr. Ederer had been a resident of Bellingham his entire life. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served in World War I, and was also a member of the International Longshoremen and Warehousemen's Union, Local No. 17. Surviving relatives include, besides the widow, one son, Harry H.; two daughters, Mrs. E. A. Taylor and Miss Eleanor; his mother, Mrs. Mary L. Ederer, and one sister, Mrs. Katie Lyle, all of Bellingham; also numerous other relatives, including four grandchildren. The remains are resting at the Bingham-Dahlquist-Jerns Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. James Martyn Wilson officiating. Interment in the Bay View Cemetery where the Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct ritualistic graveside services. Members of the Foreign Wars will also act as casket bearers.

Secretary of Knights of Columbus Called By Death
Joseph J. Ederer, 71, secretary of the Bellingham Council, Knights of Columbus, and retired grocer, died at the family home, 1101 1/2 Harris avenue, Wednesday (June 12, 1935) after an illness of six months. Mr. Ederer had resided in Bellingham for the past forty years. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart and of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. He is survived by his widow, one brother and one sister in Germany; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lou Ederer; niece, Miss Kate Edderer, and nephew, Joseph Ederer, all of this city. Funeral services will be held from the Church of the Sacred Heart Friday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Father S. J. Carmody officiating. Interment will be made in the family plot in the Bay View cemetery under the direction of the Bingham-Dahlquist mortuary. Mrs. Ederer had been a resident of Bellingham for the past fifty-eight years and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, William Matthews Post Auxiliary No. 1585, also the Christian Church in Minnesota. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Mrs. Katie Lyle, Bellingham; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Ederer, Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. Katie Ellis and Mrs. Emma Land, both also of Bellingham; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, also nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Bingham-Dalhquist & Jerns Funeral Home, Saturday, June 28, at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Martyn Wilson, officiating. EDES, William R. "Bill" age 37, died May 2nd in Seattle. Bill was on the faculty of Whatcom Community College and Librarian at Lummi Community College. He is survived by his parents, James & Dorothy Edes of Dexter, Maine; 2 brothers, Joseph of Dexter, Maine, Daniel of Rochester, New York; a sister, Mary Camire of Newmarket, New Hampshire; 2 nieces; 1 nephew & many friends. Celebration of passage will be held at Tennant Lake Park near Ferndale Sunday May 12, 7 p.m. [Mr. Edes was a graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. He earned a master of library science degree from the University of Rhode Island and an associate's degree in performing arts management from Whatcom Community College. He began working at WCC in 1976 and in subsequent years taught records management and library research at the Learning Resources Center.]
EDGBERT, Jasper D., age 97 years, of 1509 E. Victor, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, June 29th, following a lingering illness. Mr. Edgbert had been a resident of Bellingham since 1918. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Gladys Creighton and Mrs. Bob Marmon, both of Bellingham. Private funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 2nd. at 10:30 a.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. W. Robert Webb, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating. Interment, Woodlawn Cemetery.
EDGE, Jerald L., 70, 205 Reeds Lane, Everson, died Tuesday, (October 14, 1986). He was born March 12, 1916, in South Dakota. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 302 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Iva M. Edge, of the family home; five daughters, Donna Ripley of Bellingham, Geraldine Wilfore of Seattle, Frances Middleton of South Dakota, Nancy Schlaak of Missouri and Judy Baker of Tennessee; two brothers, Marv Edge of California and Kermith Edge of South Dakota; and numerous grandchildren. Priscilla was born November 20, 1971, in Anacortes, to Theodore and Wands Jo (Phair) Edge. EDIN, Carl H., aged 67 years, of Nooksack, Wash., passed away at a local hospital Thursday, February 25, (1943), after an illness of one week. Mr. Edin had been a resident of Bellingham for twenty-three years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Sweden, the Whatcom County Dairy Association and the Washington Co-Op Association. Surviving relatives include the widow, Mrs. Tekla Edin; seven sons, Herman, George and Raymond of Nooksack, Rudy of Lynden, Roy and James of Seattle, and Vernon of the U.S. Army; four daughters, Mrs. Gertie Baird, Nooksack, Mrs. Mabel King, Tenino, Wash., Mrs. Ethel Fisher and Mrs. Blanche Pate of Seattle; also twenty-one grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at the Bingham-Dahlquist funeral home, Tuesday morning, March 2, at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Clarence Lund. Interment will be made in the Tacoma Cemetery, Tacoma.
EDIN, Gary, age 39, a former resident and student at Bellingham, died Nov. 12, (1977) in Reno, Nevada after a brief illness. He is survived by his father, Chester E. Edin of Modesto, CA, a former traffic manager for the Pacific American Fisheries; his sister, Joan Edin of Sacramento, CA; 2 brothers, Bruce Edin of Modesto, CA & Chester M. Edin of Sacramento, CA; 2 nieces and 4 nephews. He was a Past a Past Commander of the Bellingham Jr. Yacht Club and was a member of the DeMolay while in Bellingham. He was a Real Estate Associate for 15 yrs. in South Lake Tahoe, CA and Nevada and was active in sailing organizations.
EDIN, George O., 77, of 1785 E. Bakerview Road, Bellingham, died March 4, 1992. He was born Feb. 22, 1915 in Edmonton, Alberta to Carl and Tecia Edin and moved to Whatcom County as a small child. He attended school at Nooksack. He was an auto body and fender repairman. He married June Elstad in 1942 in Whatcom County. She survives him in Bellingham. Other survivors are three sons, Barry Edin and Richard Edin of Ferndale and Gregory Edin of Bellingham; four brothers, Ray Edin of Bellingham, Rudolph Edin of Lynden, Vernon Edin of Nooksack and Jim Edin of Tacoma; one sister, Blanche Pate of Gold Bar; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday in the Greenacres Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Phil Brooks of Bellingham Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial was at Greenacres Memorial Park. EDIN, Teckla, age 67 years, passed away at the family resident (sic) at Nooksack, Friday, Sept. 21, (1945), after a brief illness. Mrs. Edin had been a resident of Whatcom county for the past twenty-six years, was a member of the Nooksack Demonstration club, the Washington Co-op and the Lutheran Church in Sweden. Surviving relatives include seven sons: Herman and Raymond, both of Nooksack; Rudolph, of Lynden; Roy of Seattle; George of Bellingham; Vernon, in U.S. Navy, and James with U.S. Army; four daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Baird, Nooksack; Mrs. Blanche Pate, of Bellingham; Mrs. Ethel Fisher, Seattle, and Mrs. Mabel King, Buccoda, Wash.; one brother, Carl A. Caxell, Forks, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Gerda Gage, Hoquiam, Wash; twenty-two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The remains are resting at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. T. M. Krauss. Interment will be made Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the old Tacoma cemetery.
EDIN, Vernon E. - Memorial funeral services for Vernon E. Edin, 73, who passed away in Bellingham on Thursday, July 20, 1992, were conducted on Monday, in the Nooksack Valley Assembly of God Church with Rev. Chuck Coats officiating. Burial preceded in Nooksack Cemetery. Mr. Edin, of 515 Breckenridge Road, Everson, was born in Tacoma on Aug. 9,, 1918. He moved with his parents, Carl and Teckla Edin, to the Everson area in 1920. He graduated from Sumas-Nooksack High School and during World War II served in the Army. On July 31, 1947 he was married to Mary Dahlgren in Bellingham and together they operated the dairy farm on which he was raised. A member of the Nooksack Valley Assembly of God Church, Vernon enjoyed camping and fishing. He was also a member of the Sumas American Legion Post No. 212 and for many years served on the Nooksack Cemetery Board. He is survived by his wife Mary of the family home; two sons, Randy Edin of Nooksack and Brian Edin and wife Carolyn of Everson; a daughter, Sheri and husband Karl Wiederspohn of Arlington; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Rudy Edin of Lynden, Ray Edin of Bellingham and Jim Edin of Milton; a sister, Blanche Pate of Gold Bar; and numerous other relatives. Besides his parents, Mr. Edin was preceded by three brothers and three sisters. Services were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home Lynden.
EDLER, Andrew G., age 66, of Everson, passed away at his home Sunday, May 3, (1964). A resident of Everson since 1940, he had owned and operated the Everson Drug Co. until 1960 when he retired. He had served with the U.S. Army during WWI. He was a member of the Everson Presbyterian Church, Nooksack Lodge No. 192 F. & A. M., Nile Temple of Seattle, White Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies of Bellingham and was past patron of Nooksack Chapter No. 171 OES and past Master of Boaz Lodge No. 185 F. & A. M. Danbury, Nebraska. Surviving are his wife, Minnie, 2 sisters, Mrs. Walborg Erickson and Mrs. Bertha Snoddy both of Seattle, 1 brother, Olof of Seattle, also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Everson Presbyterian Church Wednesday, May 6 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Neil Higbee officiating. Ritualistic committal services will be held in the Mt. EDLER, Minnie Ethel, 90, who operated the Everson Drug Co. and the Sumas drug store with her husband until their retirement in 1960, died Wednesday (May 13, 1987) in a Bellingham nursing home. She was born Jan. 1, 1908 (1897), a daughter of Nels and Anna Louise Willnerd who had a large farm in Norton, Kan. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Edler stayed home to help raise her younger sister and four younger brothers. On August 26, 1923, she married her brother's friend, Andy Edler of Mount Vernon. Together they owned and operated three drug stores in Kansas and Nebraska until 1940, when they moved to the Everson area. In Everson, they owned and operated Everson Drug Co. and the drug store in Sumas. The Edlers kept very busy working 10 to 12 hours a day. Mrs. Elder (sic) enjoyed decorating the store windows, especially for Christmas and other holidays. They retired in 1960. Mr. Edler died in 1964. Mrs. Edler lived in the Bellingham Towers and enjoyed traveling and visiting her brother, many cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives. She also enjoyed photography and was a dedicated member of the many lodges. A member of the Nooksack Chapter of the Eastern Star, she was a holder of the 50-year pin. She also was secretary of Zenobia and a long-time member of Hatasu Temple No. 1 of the Daughter(s) of the Nile in Seattle. She is survived by a brother, Des Wilnerd (sic) of Inglewood, Colo.; two nieces, Maxine Leach of Portland, Ore., and Helen Smith of Anacortes, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Visitation is today from noon to 7 p.m. at Jerns and LeVeck Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at Jerns and LeVeck Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Homer Todd and the Nooksack Chapter of the Eastern Star officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
EDLUND, Christine, age 83 years, of 1111 High Street, passed away, Tuesday, June 22, (1948) at her home, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Edlund had been a resident of the city for 10 years, and was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church in Sweden, where she was born. Surviving is one daughter, Miss Katherine Edlund at home. EDMAND, Alpha Caroline, age 88, of Connell, Wash., passed away in a Spokane hospital Sunday, Sept. 19, (1954). Miss Edmand had resided in Bellingham for 20 years prior to her moving to Connell five years ago. She had been a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church and the P.E.O. EDMISON, Faye Edwards, age 90, of Bellingham, passed away Thurs., Mar. 20, 1997, at Bellingham Health Care. She was born Oct. 24, 1906, in Everson to William and Emma Jane (Roberts) Edwards and has been a lifetime Whatcom County resident and graduated from Mt. Baker High School. She married Adrian Edmison on May 26, 1938, in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Edmison had been employed as an office manager for a trucking company. She was very actively involved with the Order of the Eastern Star for nearly 40 years in which she held many offices at local, regional, and state levels. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and loved cats. Family members remember her special laugh and heart of gold. She is survived by a sister, Audrey Thompson of Seattle; brother, Harmon Edwards of Lummi Island; nieces Janice Dietrich and Cherie Lund both of Seattle. EDMONDS, Gerald Eugene, age 64 years, of Route 2, Ferndale, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Oct. 16, (1956) following a brief illness. He had been a resident of the Ferndale community for the past 30 years, and was a member of the Carpenters and Jointers Union. EDMONDSON, Elsie S., of Bellingham, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital on Sun., Oct. 26, 1997. She was born Dec. 28, 1912 in Spokane, WA, to Charles and Jessie (Segur) Rennison. Mrs. Edmondson was Production Manager at Foster Hockberg and Pacific Trails both in Seattle. She retired in 1975 and had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 8 years where she resided at the Leopold Hotel. Preceded in death by her husband, George Edmondson, in April 1984. EDNEY, Fred, age 84, passed away at his home in Blaine, Sunday, Oct. 9, (1960). Mr. Edney was born in Sydenham, England, on June 5, 1876. EDNEY, Lucy Mary, age 86, of Blaine, passed away Saturday night, April 2, (1960) at her home. She was born in Sydenham, Kent, England, and was a member of the Blaine Congregational Church. In 1918 Mr. and Mrs. Edney came to Bath, Maine from England. White in Bath, she joined the Eastern Star and had been an active member. In 1947 they came to Vancouver, B.C.; in 1951 they moved to Blaine. She is survived by her husband, Frederick and 2 brothers, Fred and Alf in England. EDQUIST, Delbert E. "Del" age 73, of 298 Chuckanut Point Road, Bellingham, passed away Thurs., Aug. 25, 1994 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born Jan. 27, 1921 in Bellingham to Gustave and Alice (Cedarboom) Edquist and had been a Whatcom County resident for 55 years. He married Rebecca S. Whitley on Feb. 21, 1951 in Bellingham. He played with the Art Hoeruegel Band for many years and after retirement was very active at the Ferndale and Bellingham Senior Centers where he played the piano at many functions. He was a member of the Musician's Guild in Skagit County and a former member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #194 and the Bellingham Country Club. He worked for Pacific American Fisheries from 1950 to 1958 in Bellingham and for Whitney-Fidalgo Seafoods in Seattle from 1965 until retirement in 1983. He is survived by his wife Rebecca S. Edquist of the family home; son, Steve E. Edquist and wife Donna of Bellingham; daughter Mary Eason and husband Dennis of Bellingham; and 3 grandchildren. EDSON, Alice Eliza Barber, former teacher, who graduated from Whatcom High School in 1923 and remained active in that class' weekly luncheons, died today (Jan. 6, 1988) in Bellingham. Mrs. Edson, 83, of 3121 Squalicum Way, was born Dec. 29, 1904, in Old Town, Md. She taught in public schools is both Bellingham and Kirkland. She was active in the Bellingham Senior Center, the Mount Baker Club, Girl Scouts of America and the Campfire Girls. Mrs. Edson performed volunteer work for the Whatcom County Literacy Council and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. She tutored, and was active as a guitarist and vocalist, performing for both the Walt Germaine Blazing Guitars and Silver Bells. Survivors include two sons, Walter Allen Edson of Kirkland and J. Orin Edson of Lakewood, two daughters, Mary Jane Brooks of Bellingham and Carol Ann Edson of Robbinstone, Maine; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in Bellingham. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the lounge of The Firs, with the Rev. Grant Whipple of The Firs officiating. Cremation will be performed at Greenacres Crematorium. EDSON, Elizabeth - Services for Elizabeth Edson, 73, Burlington, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Edson died Thursday (Jan. 8, 1967) in an Anacortes nursing home. She had lived in Burlington the past 30 years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Doris Wertz of Sedro Woolley, Mrs. Cleo Westergreen of Marysville and Mrs. Shirley Jones of Kent; six sons, Arnott of Arlington, Roscoe of Burlington, Archie and Ron of Seattle and Lloyd and Harold of Bow; 21 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a brother and sister in Nebraska. The body will be forwarded to Creighton, Neb., for burial.
EDSON, Etta Kampen, member of a pioneer family that has been in Lynden for over 100 years, died on Sunday, June 3, 1990, at the age of 91. She and her late husband, Gale, operated the City Drug Store for a long period of its 75-year existence. She is survived by a son, Jim, of Seattle; two sisters, Tina Wilson of Bloomsfield, Mich., and Grace Kampen of Walnut Creek, Calif.; three granddaughters, Maryellen Adolphson of Spokane, Mollie Edson-Jacobs of Ellensburg, and Jane Hongladarom of Seattle; as well as eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Greenacres Chapel in Ferndale. [Arrangements by Whatcom Cremation Association.]
EDSON, Gale M., a Lynden pioneer businessman and sportsman, died Tuesday at his home on the Wiser Lake Road after a brief illness. Mr. Edson was born Nov. 8, 1896 and attended school in Lynden and graduated from the Lynden High School where he starred in athletics and especially track events. He attended the University of Washington majoring in Pharmacy, but his education was interrupted by World War I when he enlisted in the Ambulance Corps organized by Dr. David Hall of the American Field Service. He served in the battlefields of France for two years before being discharged and returning to the University of Washington to complete his education graduating in 1919. Mr. Edson joined his father Edward Edson in the operation of the City Drug Store in Lynden in 1919 and operated the store until his retirement 20 years ago. He was married to Etta Kampen in 1921, who survives him at the family home at 129 E. Wiser Lake Road, Lynden. The Edsons son, Dr. Jim Edson, is a Seattle dentist and is married to the former Janet Jenks, of Seattle. They have three daughters, Ellie Adolphson, Spokane; Molly Edson, Ellensburg and Janie Hongladorom, Seattle. Also surviving are five grandchildren. At Mr. Edson's request there will be no funeral service. Arrangements are being made by Greenacres. Mr. Edson was an avid golfer and was the winner of the Whatcom County golf championship in the forties. He was also a hunter and fisherman and loved the out of doors. He was a member of the Mount Baker Post of the American Legion and was an active member of the Lynden Chamber of Commerce while he operated the drug store. Earlier this year the State Department of Game presented Mr. Edson with a large plaque commemorating his 24 years of "dedicated service" for his having taken care of the game refuge at Wiser Lake.
EDSON, Harold S. - Graveside services for Harold S. Edson, a former Bellingham resident who died in Portland Thursday (March 19, 1959), were held Saturday in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Edson, 74, had been a Bellingham resident for 20 years when he moved to Portland about 15 years ago. News of his sudden death was reported by Mrs. Peter Peterson, 514 Lakeway Dr. Besides his wife, Scilla, at home, Mr. Edson in survived by three daughters, Mrs. Connie Walters, Seattle; Mrs. James Howells, Everett and Mrs. Phyllis Phillips, Bellevue. Several other relatives also survive. Westford Funeral Home was in charge of graveside services Saturday.
EDSON, Helen G., of Port Townsend, passed away Nov. 29, (1977), 45 yrs. Mother of Jack of Seattle, Mark of Pullman; sister of Pat Weher of Renton, Mrs. Ed (Judy) Kumma of Lynnwood, Mrs. James (Margaret) Leary of Seattle and Caroline Edson of Bellevue; daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Alexander of Stanwood; 11 nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Wed., Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Townsend. Local arrangements by Green's Sunset Hills Chapel, Bellevue.
EDSON, John M., age 93, of 9021 51st N. E., Seattle, passed away in that city Sunday, June 13, (1954). Mr. Edson had resided in Seattle for the past eight years, and previously had resided in Bellingham for many years. He was a pioneer newspaperman in Bellingham, and was founder of the Bellingham Public Museum. He was especially noted as an outstanding ornithologist, and wrote many article of birds. He was a charter member of the American Ornithologist's Union, and was a member of the Cooper Ornithological Society. Surviving relatives include a son, Arthur A. Edson of Seattle; a daughter, Mrs. Emily E. Mattox, also of Seattle; two grandsons, Walter of Edmonds, and Orin of Seattle; two granddaughters, Misses Mary and Carol Edson, both of Seattle; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter H. Edson of Jamestown, N.Y.; and a nephew, Allan J. Love of Bellingham. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Dr. W. Carl Calhoun, Wednesday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
EDSON, Lelah B., age 79 of Mount Baker Apartments passed away Sunday May 6, (1962) in a local rest home following an extended illness. Mrs. Edson had been a resident of the Whatcom County for the past 73 years and was author of "The Fourth Corner." She was a member of the First Christian Church of Bellingham and the D.A.R. Survivors include one brother Lowell Jackson of Ferndale, one step-son of Lynden, one step-daughter Mrs. Owen Hadley of Tacoma. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in the Westford Funeral Home Wednesday May 9th at 1 p.m. with Rev. Walter Naff officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Enterprise Cemetery under the direction of the Moles Funeral Home.
EDSTROM, Ida O. age 64 to Rt. 12, Box 432 Olympia, Wa., passed away Sunday May 23rd, (1976) in a Tacoma hospital. Mrs. Edstrom was raised in Bellingham and attended school here before moving to Olympia. She leaves to survive 1 son Glenn Edstrom of Olympia, 1 daughter Margaret Lamie of Ft. Belvoir, Va. and 2 grandchildren. Also 2 sisters Esther Johnson and Betty Grant; 1 brother Henry "Bill" Pearson all of Bellingham. At her request no funeral services were held.
