CLOES, William Gordon, age 77, a retired Deming resident for the past 22 years suffered a stroke and passed away June 1, 1992 in Bellingham. He was born February 7, 1915 in Encanto, Calif to Gordon and Enid Collins Cloes. Married Ruth Chilcote April 6, 1947 in Yuma, Arizona. He was a decorated WWII Pilot and later was employed as an Executive Pilot for U.S. Steel Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the family home; a son, Jack Gordon Alford & wife Doris of San Diego, Calif; 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grand children and six nephews. CLOO, Martin, 68, of Burlington died April 24, 1974. Funeral services for Martin Cloo, 68, of Burlington will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the Mount Vernon First Christian Reformed Church. CLOSE, Amelia Christina, age 59 years, of Lynden, Route No. 2, passed away in a local hospital, Oct. 24, (1957), following a lingering illness. She had resided in Lynden for the past five years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harold Arneson, of Lynden, Route 2; one son Orval of Bloomingdale, Ill.; six grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters and several nieces and nephews. CLOSE, Charles C., age 79, of 2800 Donovan passed away in a local hospital Friday, March 5 (1954). Mr. Close had resided in this community for the past 18 years and was a retired brick manufacturer. CLOSSON, John G., of Vancouver, Wash., died Friday, Aug. 27, 1993. He was 77. A memorial service was held Monday in Vancouver. Burial will be at Northwood Park Cemetery. Born Dec. 17, 1915, in Orchards, Neb., to William Closson and Cecelia Kennedy Closson, he was raised and educated in Wyoming. He attended the University of Montana for a year and moved in the late 1930s to Whatcom County, where he attended business college in Bellingham. Mr. Closson served in the Navy and was stationed in Washington, D.C., where he married Genevieve Knutsen on May 23, 1940. They returned in 1945 to Bellingham, where they lived for a few years before moving to Sedro-Woolley. They continued to spend their summers at their retirement home on Lake Samish. Mr. Closson retired from San Juan Packers in 1983. A member of the American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church in Vancouver, he enjoyed fishing and golf. Mr. Closson was preceded in death by a son, David Spencer Closson, and a brother, William Closson. Survivors include his wife of the family home; sons William Dennis Closson, Robert Louis Closson and Richard John Closson, all of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter Judith Ann Closson Melgar of San Francisco; sister Cecelia Closson DeGrave of Vancouver, Wash.; and 11 grandchildren. CLOTHIER, Milton A. Jr., age 62 of 446 W. Lake Samish Dr., passed away Sun. Jan. 19 (1987) [at the family home]. CLOUGH, Annie E., age 87 years, of Rt. 2, Ferndale, passed away at a local hospital Tuesday, Sept. 21 (1954), following an extended illness. She had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 50 years and was a member of the Congregational Church of Pleasant Valley. CLOUGH, Vernon Russell, 61, a former Bellingham resident, died Monday (April 26, 1982) in California. CLOUSER, Donald Richard III, ["Gremlin"], age 20, of 1601 Texas No. 12, Bellingham, was killed in a car accident Sun. Sept. 2, 1990. He was a roofer for Mark Carpenter. His hobbies were baseball, fishing, and collecting Dragons & Castles, and was a member of Starvin Sams Softball Team. [He was born Jan 18, 1970, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Burial will follow later at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.][A Bellingham man died and a woman was listed in "very critical condition" Sunday after a two-car, head-on collision on the southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp near Samish Way. Donald R. Clouser, 20, of 1601 Texas St., died at the scene from multiple injuries, the State Patrol said. Ruth M. Inge, 74, of 1420 32nd St., was taken by aid car to St. Joseph Hospital South Campus. Nursing supervisor Sue Bouma said Inge suffered severe head and chest injuries and broken legs. Troopers said neither driver was wearing a seat belt. Clouser's death was the 13th traffic fatality in Whatcom County this year. At this time last year, there had been 21 traffic deaths. The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. and the off-ramp was closed until about 1 p.m. Trooper Ed McAvoy said Clouser was southbound on the ramp leaving the freeway and Inge’s car was northbound, entered the southbound off-ramp and the two cars collided head-on. Dozens of people lined a dead-end street and parking area by Motel 6, which is adjacent to the freeway. The crowd watched rescue efforts as Bellingham Fire Department firefighters and paramedics worked to extricate Clouser from the wreckage. Police said Clouser had been scheduled to meet friends in the Samish Way area. When they didn't show up, his friends went looking for him and found the collision. Both Inge's 1983 Chevrolet and the 1981 Dodge Clouser was driving were destroyed.]

CLOW, Edward E., age 56, Acme resident, died August 21, 1982 in Mt. Vernon. He was born in Bellingham, April 17, 1926, had been employed as a [longtime] logger in Whatcom County, and was presently employed by Scott Paper Company in Hamilton. He was united in marriage with Jean Larsen in 1951. Mr. Clow was an active organizer of the Deming Log Show, member of the Little Brown Church of Wickersham. Survivors include his wife, Jean; a daughter, Sandy Schroeder of Custer; a son, Lonnie Clow of Deming; 2 half-sisters, Myrtle Sherin of Anacortes; Edna Marr of Alaska; 3 grandchildren, numerous of nieces & nephews. CLOW, Margaret "Jean", (age 82) went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2009 in Bellingham, WA. Jean was born on May 26, 1927 in Sedro Woolley, WA to Ewald and Margaret (Morris) Larsen. She is survived by her son, Lonnie Edward Clow of Acme, WA; daughter, Sandy Lawrence of Port Angeles, WA; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Edward Clow. Jean enjoyed attending Acme Presbyterian Church, gardening, reading, playing cards with her grandchildren and playing Bingo. She will be remembered by her family for being a loving mother and grandmother to all. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Saxon Cemetery in Acme. CLOW, Russell W., age 77 of Acme, passed away Friday, Nov. 5 (1976). A Whatcom County life time resident, Mr. Clow was employed as a logger and active in the Deming Logging Show. CLULOW, David R., age 40, of Everson, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, July 11 (1963). A resident of Everson since 1956, he had formerly owned and operated the Sumas and Everson Variety Stores. A Veteran of WW II, he had been employed as assistant manager by the Northwest Liquidators in Bellingham. Surviving are one daughter, Katherine Clulow at home; one sister, Mrs. Jerry Wallace of Washougal, Wash.; one brother, Donald Clulow of Portland. Funeral services will be held in the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden Saturday, July 13 at 2 p.m. with Father George Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

CLULOW, Margaret Ann, age 46 of Everson passed away in a local hospital Saturday, July 15 (1961), following a two-week illness. Mrs. Clulow had been a lifetime resident of the Everson area and for the past 5 years had owned and operated the Everson and Sumas Variety Stores with her husband. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Everson and is survived by her husband, David R. Clulow; 1 daughter, Katherine Lea at home; 3 brothers, Bert Cyr of Edmonds, Doug and Harry Cyr both of Everson, and her mother, Mrs. Katherine Cyr of Everson. Funeral services will be held at the Everson Presbyterian Church Tuesday, July 18 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. George Pratt officiating. Final burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Friends wishing to see Mrs. Clulow should call at the church prior to 1:15.

CLUMPNER, Genevieve G., 74, died Tuesday (Aug. 11, 1981). Funeral service for Genevieve G., age 74 of 2215 E. St., will be Fri. Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home, with Mr. Michael “Mike” Hardiman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenacres Memorial park. CLUMPNER, Gerald Ward, age 90, of Bellingham, passed away Tues, Feb 23, 1993 in Bellingham at St. Joseph Hospital-South Campus. He was born June 26, 1902 in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin to Theron and Barbara Hepburn Clumper (sic) and has been a resident Whatcom County resident for the past 62 years. Mr. Clumpner served in the U.S. Navy during WWI. He retired from the Bellingham Builders and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His wife, Genevieve, preceded him in dealth (sic) in 1981, and a son, Robert Ward Clumpner, preceded him in death in 1990. Mr. Clumpner is survived by his daughter, Barbara Axlund of Bellingham; daughter-in-law, Zella Clumpner of Bellingham; sister, Mecedes Wiles of Sedro Wolley (sic); grandchildren; Wendy Blair of Ferndale, Gerald Koch of Seattle, Christie Dobbs of Bellingham, Linda Palmer of Bellingham, Robert W. Clumpner Jr, of Mt. Vernon; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Friday, Feb 26, 2:30 pm at Greenacres Memorial Park [with Gay Turner officiating.]

CLUMPNER, Harold L., 3020 St. Clair street, age 61, passed away Saturday, March 18 (1967). Mr. Clumpner was a forty-five year resident of this City, and was employed by Bellingham Builders Supply. He was a member of Silver Beach Community Church, and Teamster’s Union, Local No. 231. Survivors are his widow, Ruth M.; a son, Jack L.; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Roche of Renton; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald, City; Earl, Puyallup; William, Seattle; two sisters, Mrs. Mercedes Wiles of Sedro Woolley, and Mrs. Eulalia Durdin of Chehalis. Services will be conducted by Rev. David Hanson Wednesday, March 22 at 1:00 P.M. at the Jones Funeral Home. Burial Bay View Cemetery.

CLUMPNER, Robert Ward, Sr., age 65, of 4921 Samish Way, Bellingham, passed away Mon., July 16, 1990, at home. He was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Blaine and was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County. Mr. Clumpner was a World War II Navy veteran who was decorated with a Purple Heart and two Silver Stars. He married his wife Zella Nesmith Aug. 17, 1946. Mr. Clumpner retired from Langendorf Bakery in 1986. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Bellingham. He leaves to survive his wife Zella of the family home; father, Gerald W. of city; two daughters, Wendy and husband Stan Blair of Ferndale, and Christie Dobbs of city; son, Robert W. Clumpner, Jr. and wife Christine of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; sister, Barbara Axlund of city; and numerous other relatives. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2 pm at Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Bob Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park,. CLUMPNER, Theron Ward, age 76, of 1460 Iron Street, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, February 22 (1950). Mr. Clumpner had resided in this community for the past 32 years, and was a retired saw filer. Deceased was a member of the Methodist Church, and leaves to survive four sons, Harold and Gerald, both of Bellingham, William and Earl, both of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. Eulalia Durdin, of Seattle, and Mrs. Mercedes Farrell, of Sedro Woolley; five grandsons; seven granddaughters and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. May Godfrey, of Roseburg, Ore.; two brothers, Gene of Spokane, and Ray, of Priest River, Idaho. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. Daniel E. Taylor, Saturday, February 25, at 1:00 p. m. Final resting place, Greenacres Memorial Park. Casket bearers will be Donald Pilkey, Parker Sickles, George Vander Brink, Lloyd Snider, Robert Bailey and Cecil Folsom.

CLYBURN, Clara E., a resident of the Fannin County Nursing Home in Blue Ridge, Georgia, passed away on Saturday morning, September 13, 1986. She was born in Jamestown, North Carolina in 1906. She was the widow of Thomas B. Clyburn and a former resident of Whatcom County. For several years, she had lived at Blaine Manor in Blaine. Surviving are one son, Thomas B. Clyburn III of Lancaster, S.C.; four daughters, Ruth Ann Morris of Lawrencville, Ill., Clara Sue McCall of Norcross, Ga., Carolyn Armfield Weese of Knoxville, Tenn., and Sarah Lynn Garrison of Valdez, Alaska. She is also survived by one brother, Paul Armfield of High Point, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, September 15 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Finch Funeral Home in McCaysville, Ga. with the Rev. Buddy Kemner officiating. Interment followed in the Chastain Memorial Park in Blue Ridge, Ga. Serving as pallbearers were Lee Evans, Robert Weese, Jr., James Berry, Morgan Cheek, Clyburn Estes, and Larry Armfield.

CLYDE, Mabel L., age 82, of 2943 Lynn St., passed away Wed., June 6, 1979. She was raised in Lawrence, moved to Seattle and then to B’ham in 1946. She was a retired registered nurse, member of Central Lutheran Church & St. Lukes Alumni. She is survived by 1 son, William J. Kaster of Bellevue; 1 daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Angell of city; 3 sisters, Mrs. Nora Hillard, Mrs. Mary Heavilin & Mrs. Ida Tilley all of B’ham; 9 grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews. Graveside service Fri., June 8 at 11 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Grant officiating. The family suggests memorials to St. Lukes Alumni. Arrangements by Jones Funeral Home.

CLYDE, Ralph S., age 69, of 3145 Coolidge Dr., passed away in a local hospital Sunday, January 18 (1959). Mr. Clyde had resided in Bellingham for the past 11 years and was a member of the Central Lutheran Church. Prior to 1943 Mr. Clyde had resided in Seattle for 58 years where he was a member of the Seattle Fire Dept. Survivors are his widow, Mabel L., at home; one step-son, William Koster, of Kirkland; one step-daughter, Mrs. Lee Angell, of Bellingham; 5 grandchildren; one brother and one sister in South Dakota. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Pastor Oscar A. Jacobson Wednesday, January 21 at 10:00 A. M. Graveside services will be conducted at the Evergreen Cemetery in Seattle at 2:00 p. m. Contributions may be made to the Central Lutheran Church Building Fund.
