Bob Neeson is a dead, and consequently a good Indian, as a result of knife wounds
received August 13 in Sultan at the hands of Dan Snaklum, a brave, who is still at
large and supposed to be near Gold bar. The Indians have learned that their tribesmen
usually go free in murder committed off the reservation and in this instance formed a
war party of thier own to avenge Neeson's demise - a movement which almost cost
Superintendent W.E. Clarke, of the Sultan salmon hatchery his life.

About seven o'clock Monday night, those in the vicinity of Hafferdorn's cigar store
in Everett were startled by loud words, a scuffle and then a pistol shot. James W.
Connella, editor of the Everett News, and OLE NELSON, a wood and coal dealer, met and
in a quarrel which followed, Connella pulled his revolver and shot Nelson in the
groin, the wound proving fatal. When the republican convention met in Everett last
month, some one tore down the picture of Congressman Lewis, which had been left in
the hall after the democratic convention. Connella commented on this harshly, and
accused Ole Nelson of doing the deed, lashing Nelson in a personal manner. To this
the latter took exception, and bad blood was conseqently engendered. On the night of
the shooting, report says that when they met they began to quarrel and blows passed
between them. Nelson knocked Connella down and while lying there he pulled his
revolver and shot, the ball striking Nelson in the groin. Deputy Sheriff Dwyer was
near by, and immediately took Connella in charge and to the jail. Nelson was taken up
stairs in the Commercial Hotel, and afterwards to the hospital, where four physicians
did everything possible to save his life but without avail, and at 12:30 he died.

The deceased was generally known as a peacful and law abiding citizen, and the
citizens of Everett greatly deplore the fatal affair. The coroner's inquest brought
in a verdict that the deceased came to his death from a bullet fired from a pistol
held in the hands of James Connella and fired by his hand with criminal intent. The
preliminary examination held before Justice Banks resulted in Connella being held
over for the superior court without bail.

HANS PETER NELSON, 70 years old, pioneer resident of the Laramer's Corner district,
was found dead in bed at 11:30 o'clock Thursday morning by his wife and son, entering
the home after a few hours spent in Everett on a shopping trip. Inquiry showed that
Mr. Nelson had secured a short length of clothes line and had fastened one end about
his neck and the other to the head of the bed. Death, it was stated was due to
strangulation. Nelson, according to Mrs. Nelson and several neighbors, had been in
ill health for many years. He is said to have suffered a paralytic stroke six weeks
ago,. Later neighbors quoted him as saying that he regretted that medical attention
had been given him, preferring to die. The Nelson family had resided near the
Stockbridge farm on the Laramer's corners road for 27 years, moving to that locality
in the hopes of benefiting Mr. Nelson's health. The body is at the chapel of John F.
Jeread from where funeral arrangements will be announced later. Report of the death
has been made to Coroner Charles H. Fickel.

Quite a little excitement was occasioned as the Times is going to print, by the
discovery of the body of David Ogilvie, or "Scotty" as he was more familarly called,
lying at the base of an old cotton wood tree in the brush near the new county bridge.
Scotty was first missed on Tuesday of this week, and searching parties were out
hunting for him all day Friday and up till noon Saturday, the corpse finally being
found by James Elwood. It was ascertained at Teager drug store that the deceased had
purchased a package of rough on rats and strychinne on Tuesday, under the plea that
it was required to exterminate the skunks around his cabin in the woods. With this he
undoubtedly made away with his life.- Haller City Times.

Word reached this city Tuesday evening of the accidental killing of George Ohlmstead
at Neimeyer & Smith's mill near Machias. It appears that Ohlmstead was hauling wood
near the mill and in some way was thrown off the wagon falling head formost down
between load and team in such a way that his scull was injuried on both sides. Those
working near rushed to the scene but the injuried man was unconscious before any aid
could be given him, and died in about two hours after the mishap. Dr. Stafford was
summoned from town here but the injuried man was beyond aid when he arrived on the
scene. George Ohlmstead was well known in this community, having lived in this
neighborhood for several years. He leaves a wife and parents besides many friends to
mourn his untimely end.
