Albert Kayser was born in Pennsylvania on February 22, 1845 to Matilda [Seitzinger] and Bernhardt Kayser. He married Harriet Shrum about 1869 and they settled in
Klickitat County about 1879 where they built the Blockhouse Trading Post in 1888 that they named Spring Creek House.. Albert died on January 22, 1901 at the age of 55 of
chronic gastritis at Blockhouse. His wife Harriet died in 1915 and she is buried in this cemetery.
Their son Charles Franklin Kayser became a banker and the mayor of Goldendale, and he is buried in the Mountain View IOOF cemetery. Orsino P. Shurtz was born on May 29, 1843 in Pennsylvania (See *Note below). On October 18, 1863, he married Ellen D. [Fortney/Fortner].
The Shurtz family settled in Klickitat County in the Fall of 1877. Along with his farming operations, Orsino established one of the "first sawmills in the county."
His wife Ellen died on December 7, 1897 of pneumonia.
The widowed Orsino was married to Alice Robinson, on October 16, 1898 in Goldendale.
He was appointed US Postmaster of Shurtz, Klickitat County in 1900.
Alice died on March 29, 1917
in Curry County, Oregon. Orsino passed away at his son Otto's home in Spring Creek on
February 24, 1920 at 76 years of age. Steve Smith was born in Siam, Taylor County, Iowa in April 13, 1883 to Ellen [Woolen] and Isaac Smith.
He was married to Agnes Frances Gray on October 20, 1908 in
Sheridan County, Wyoming.) In the 1910 census, the Smith was family was living in Spring Creek, Klickitat County, WA. (The obituary states that: The Smith family were former residents in
Klickitat County in the Crofton-Prairie section. Their children included twins, Elvin and Earl, Virgil, Edith and Cecil. Sons Elvin Roy
passed away at the age of 7 (appendicitis) in 1917, and Cecil
died at the age of 6 in 1926. Steve
passed away on May 3, 1942 in the hospital in Seattle. He is buried in Row 15 north #2.
