OBITUARIES OF WHATCOM COUNTY HANK - HANSC
HANKAMP, George, Rev., age 80, of 110 2nd St., Lynden, passed away in a Bellingham hospital Wednesday, April 20, (1960) following a short illness. Born in Germany, March 28, 1880, the Rev. Hankamp came to the United States at the age of 4. He received his BA degree from Hope College in 1907 and received his BD degree from Western Theological Seminary in 1910. He served two churches in Michigan, one in Iowa and for six years taught philosophy and Bible at Central College, Pella, Iowa. In 1931 he moved to Lynden where he served as pastor for the First Reformed Church of Lynden for 18 years, retiring in 1949. Surviving are his wife, Alida at home; one son LaMar Hankamp in Ann Arbor, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. C. O. Fitzwater of Chevy Chase, Md., Miss Lois Hankamp of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Joe Hankamp in Grand Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. John Wierenga of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Gerrard Steima of Grandville, Mich., also seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the First Reformed Church in Lynden, Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m., Rev. William Miller officiating, assisted by Rev. A. VanBronkhorst. Concluding services and interment will be held in Grandville, Mich. Arrangements under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home.HANKE, August, age 99, who resided at 1224 Noon Road, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Dec. 15, (1960) following a brief illness. Mr. Hanke had resided in Bellingham for the past 57 years. He leaves to survive, four sons, Bernard of the Noon Road, G. S. Hanke, Bellingham, Edward, Seattle and Fred of So. Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Brockway of Juneau, Alaska, and Mrs. Mable Aubert of Anacortes; also seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The Rev. D. W. Taylor, pastor of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, will conduct graveside services on Monday, December 19, at 10:30 a.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park under the direction of the Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home.
HANKE, Bessie Irene, beloved mother and grandmother, who resided at 444 S. State St., passed away Thursday, April 7, (1977) at her residence at the age of 73. She was a 58 year resident of Bellingham and a graduate of St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing. No services will be held at her request. Cremation. She leaves to survive 1 daughter, Betty Tretwold of Bellingham; also 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Agnes Gabrielson and Colleen Bauter both of Bellingham; 1 brother, Ivan Dickinson of Seattle.
