Columbia River Sun-Thursday April 12, 1917 Insanity Cases Dismissed A complaint was filed last Thursday against Dan Waranka of Deep River, alleging insanity. Waranka was brought to Cathlamet by Sheriff Irving Friday last and was given a hearing in the Superior Court before a lunacy commission composed of William Stuart, Court Commissioner, and Dr. G. F. Pierrott of Skamokawa and Dr. H. M. Page. After a thorough examination Waranka was declared sane and discharged from custody. Another complaint was filed Saturday last against John Lake of Deep River, alleging insanity. Lake was given a hearing Monday and after examination was declared sane and discharged from custody. The only damaging evidence produced against Lake was cruelty to dumb animals. (As transcribed by the Wahkiakum County Historical Society 2008 from original newspaper collection.)
