THE PIONEER GRAVEYARD, Union Gap, Yakima County, Washington Submitted by Judy Schuster October 6, 2000. upperwenas@fairpoint.net -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Pioneer Graveyard Union Gap, Yakima County, Washington Permission for the use of published information on this cemetery was granted by Yakima Valley Genelogical Society on November 6, 1999. At the east end of the Ahtanum Road in Union Gap, Washington is the Pioneer Graveyard. Given to the "community" by Lewis H. Goodwin, M.D., the cemetery is located on a cliff above the west bank of the Yakima River. Even at this distance above the river, it was still swept by a flood in 1906, which washed away some of the graves. The records of Tahoma Cemetery in the neighboring city of Yakima indicate that some who were initially buried at this cemetery, were moved to Tahoma Cemetery to lie in larger family lots there. Following are the inscriptions, taken from the tombstones or markers. Information in ( )'s was supplied by relatives of the decedants as a part of a project to identify as many of the pioneers buried in this cemetery. -------------------------------------------------------------------- NAME BIRTH DEATH ADAMS, Anna See: KINGSBURY, Anna BARKER, Sumner 29 October 1814 30 June 1879 b.
