Wahkiakum County Eagle-January 1996 Leland C. Wright Age 80, of Puget Island, died at a Cathlamet care center. He was born in Tillamook, Ore., to Eugene S. and Bessie (Shepardson) Wright, and married his wife, Lille, in 1937 in California. He served in the Navy and the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a flight instructor for B-29s and was stationed at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma. The Wrights lived in Cathlamet from 1945t to 1958, where he was in the hardware and furniture business with his two brothers. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Cathlamet. In 1958, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he was employed by FAA Flight Service for 20 years. He retired as assistant chief of the flight service. He enjoyed fishing and flying. In the mid-1970's, the Wrights retired to Cathlamet. Mrs. Wright died in 1994. Survivors include two daughter, Toni Robinson of Puget Island and Cara Lianne Mattson of Woodway, Texas; a son, Doug of Puget Island; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Otis of Cathlamet and a sister, Edna Snyder of Cathlamet. A memorial service was held Tuesday at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Cathlamet with Rev. Joan Ham officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
