The Wahkiakum County Eagle-October 16, 2008 Allen J. Wright Cathlamet resident Allen J. Wright, 61, passed away Oct. 2, 2008, at home. He was born Sept. 16, 1947 in Chelsea, Mass., to John and Gladys (Wegdahl) Wright. He and his family moved to Cathlamet in 1961, and he graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1966. In school, he excelled in athletics, especially basketball and track. He held the high jump record for 13 years. Over the years he worked in the woods, commercial fished, was a cook in Alaska and a counselor for drug and alcohol abuse in Kodiak, Alaska. Mr. Wright very much loved and enjoyed his grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Allen Wright of Kelso and Steven Douglas Wright of Longview; a daughter, Rhonda Jane Wright of Castle Rock; a brother, Grant Wright of Portland; a sister, Kristine Sudar of Longview; his mother and stepfather, Gladys and David Spooner of Cathlamet, 10 grandchildren; a niece, Wendy Fleckenstein, three nephews, Wayne Wright, David Wright, and Mike Cox, and his good friend Gary Huber of Puget Island. Mr. Wright was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Wright in 1995, and his father, John Wright in 1967. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Puget Island. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
