Unknown newspaper-February 6, 1994 Woodward, Donald L. “Jack” The funeral for retired Portland Fire Bureau Captain will be Tuesday. Mr. Woodward died Feb. 3 of complications from aplastic anemia. He was 73. In 1942 he served in the US Army Air Corps and was awarded the China War Memorial Medal. After moving to Portland in 1949, he met Phyllis Rist and married her April 22, 1950. He then entered the Portland Fire Bureau. He attained the rank of captain and worked for the bureau for 30 years before retiring in 1980. Mr. Woodward was a longtime member of the Gresham Elks Lodge 1805, the Columbia Ridge Post, VFW, and the Hump Pilots Association. Survivors include his wife, daughters, Patti Strutz of Portland and Denise Hunter of Gresham; son, James of Portland; brothers, Wayne of Rome, N.Y., Roger of Portland and David of Eugene; sister, Alice Luckhaupt of Lake Oswego; stepmother, Meadia Woodward of Portland and four grandchildren.
