Wahkiakum Eagle-November 1998 WILSON, Donald Woodrow Age 82, of Raymond, died in an Aberdeen care center. He was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the son of Clabern and Leora (Goff) Wilson. He grew up in Dexter, Iowa and graduated from high school there. In 1934 he joined the United States Navy, serving until 1946. An electrician mate, he served in the Atlantic theatre until being transferred to the Pacific theatre. He was at the Battle of Midway and later served on the battleship California. He attended EIT School in Washington, D.C. and finally served on the aircraft carrier Hancock before discharge. Following his military service he returned to Iowa where he worked as an electrical contractor. Moving to Vallego, Calif., he worked for Pacific Gas & Electric. In 1949 he moved to Naselle, where he fished commercially as a gillnetter on the Naselle River and in Willapa Bay until 1957. He worked in construction until 1962 when he went to work for the Washington State Highway Department, working out of the Grayland office and living in Raymond. He and Rose Erickson were married January 18, 1943 in Seattle. She survives. Also surviving are a brother, Delbert of Freemont, Calif.; and sisters, Doris Neal and Darlene Scar, both of Dexter, Iowa. Private services were held at the cemetery. Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach, was in charge.
