Wahkiakum Eagle-March 1998 WILCOX, Steve S., Jr. Age 73, died at his home at Eagle Cliff, east of Cathlamet. He was born in Portland, to Stephen S., Sr. and Helen (Woodcock) Wilcox, and came to the Longview area in 1947, after serving in the Navy during WWII. He and his wife, Joan, were married April 14, 1951. In 1952, he and his partner, Art Flegel, formed Wilcox and Flegel Oil Co. after buying Manning Fuel Oil Co, which was started in 1926. He retired in 1981. In retirement, he enjoyed boating, deep-sea fishing, gardening, traveling and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He cruised to Alaska five times on his 38-foot powerboat, the Seaward. He was especially fond of his family. He was past commodore of the Longview Yacht Club, past president of the YMCA board, and a 45 year member of the Pioneer Lions. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joan, at home; a son, Steve C. of Longview; a daughter, Sue Boaglio of Longview; a sister, Sue Carstarpehn of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews. A memorial service was held Wednesday at Longview Community Church with Rev. Harland Gilliland officiating. Steele Funeral Home, Longview, was in charge.
