Wahkiakum County Eagle-December 6, 1990 WIITALA, Sylvia (Hanhi) A lifelong resident of the Grays River/Seal River area, died at home November 27, at the age of 84. She was born July 29, 1906 at Seal River, the daughter of August and Anna (Kukka) Hanhi. She attended school at Grays River and graduated from Astoria High school in 1928. Mrs. Witala had worked in the Altoona Fish Cannery. She attended Valley Bible Church in Grays River and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Better Schools Club. She also enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Hanhi and Arne Hanhi. Surviving her are a son, George Wiitala of Grays River; a sister, Lydia Mattson of Longview; and one nephew. Services were Saturday at the Seal River Church with Rev. Richard Balif officiating. Interment was at Seal River Cemetery in Rosburg, Wash. Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach was in charge.
