Wahkiakum Eagle-May 1998 WEST, Helen Alice Age 89, a resident of Wahkiakum County since 1946, died at a Longview Hospice Center. She was born at Madison, Neb., the daughter of John and Margaret Wehenkel Kreifels. She married Connie West on April 26, 1939. The Wests lived on a farm near Tigard, Ore., and in 1946 moved to a farm near Skamokawa. Mr. West died in 1993. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, a member of the Altar Society and the Get Together Club. After their retirement the Wests enjoyed traveling to Nebraska and Alaska. They also liked to dig clams and pick huckleberries. She enjoyed her friends and family and liked to paint. She worked as an RN, retiring in 1967. Survivors include sons, Thomas of Madras, Ore., and Richard of Portland; two daughters, Mary Baldwin of Skamokawa and Rosella Wolfgram of Madison, Neb.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Rosary services were held Tuesday followed by mass at St. Catherine Catholic Church. Father Lawrence Minder presided. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
