Wahkiakum County Eagle, Thursday, June 4, 2009 Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County, Washington Albert F. West Albert Fredric West, 89, of Longview passed away April 16, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center. He was born May 18, 1919, in Cathlamet, to James and Florence (Chadwick) West, and graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1937. Al married Pearl Tover June 7, 1941, on Puget Island, where they made their first home. He served in the Navy during World War II as an aviation radio technician first class, stationed on Whidbey Island and Guam. Upon discharge, Al and Pearl moved to Longview. Al worked in electronics and commercial painting. He was a member of the Cowlitz Odd Fellows Lodge (IOOF), American Legion, Sons of Norway, Painters Local 10, and past member of the Longview-Kelso Elks. He was also a member of the Longview Yacht Club, serving as port captain for 38 years. Al and his family enjoyed a river lifestyle of boating, fishing, skiing and work parties while creating lifelong friendships. Al is survived by Pearl, his wife of 68 years; two daughters, Susan Farquhar (Mike) of Longview and Bev Yonge (Gary) of Seattle; five wonderful grandchildren, Scott, Stephanie, Todd, Heather and Jennifer; five great-grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, David West.The family would like to thank the staff at Mabel's Gardens, Al's home for the past year. We would also like to acknowledge the staff at Community Home Health & Hospice for their respectful, compassionate care during his final days. We are deeply grateful. A celebration of Albert's life was held at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park. Private inurnment took place at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet.
