Wahkiakum Eagle-October 2000 WAGLER, Lawrence Wayne Age 70, of Forest Grove, Ore. and Naselle, died in Hillsboro after a short illness. He was born in Pemberville, Ohio, the youngest son of Lawrence and Lillian McCurdy Wagler. He was raised in Ohio and moved to Farmington with his parents and later to Rosburg where he met Patricia Raistakka and later married on July 11, 1950 in San Francisco. They celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary with the renewal of their vows this year. He served in the Navy from 1947 through 1951. He worked in the logging industry until he was injured and later became a professional meat cutter for 30 years in stores in the Portland and Western Washington county areas. After retiring from the meat cutting industry he cared for his father-in-law, Leo Raistakka. He was employed by Chevron Oil and the Oregon Health Sciences University hospital in food services for several years retiring at the age of 65. He was a member of the Meat Cutters Local 143, a 27-year member of the Forest Grove Grange, a cub scout and Webelos leader, P.T.A. member, Forest Grove Kiwanis club member, Road Runners Motorcycle club, the Brown Baggers Investment club, Mount Olive Lutheran church and enjoyed a variety of personal activities. Survivors include his wife at home; daughters, Laurie Ann Wagler- Burke of Beaverton, Ore., and Rebecca Lynn Wagler-Underhill of Portland; his son, Barry Wayne of Scappoose, Ore.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald of Tucson, Ariz., and Milford of Peru, Ind.; a sister, Margaret Wagler-Eninger of Shelbyville, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held October 5 in the Forest Grove Mount Olive Lutheran church. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Naselle Evangelical Lutheran church. Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach, was in charge in this area.
