Wahkiakum Eagle-August 1997 WAGES, Eunice Carol Age 87, died at a Cathlamet nursing home. She was born in Green River, Utah, the daughter of Chelsie L. and Edith (Johnson) Gillson. She came to the Portland, Ore. area as a child, grew up and went to school there. She married Bill Wages in 1931 in Portland and they moved to Cathlamet in 1933. Here, she and Bill worked at dairy farming on Puget Island and then out the Elochoman Valley, all of their working lives; and it was a life they enjoyed. Eunice also liked to spend time growing flowers and gardening and homemaking, and especially liked spending time with her family. She was a member of the Elochoman Grange for all of her years in Cathlamet. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; a sister, Bessie Folkenberg, a great-grandson, Blue Weston and five brothers. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Billie and Dan Bardsley of Cathlamet; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Sunnie Beard and Don and Deloris Wages, all of Cathlamet; a brother, Laverne Gillson of Portland; a dear friend, Ruth Philmlee of Seattle; 12 grandchildren;] 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday at Dowling Funeral Chapel in Cathlamet with Pastor David Gerlach and Rev. Joan Ham officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
