The Daily News-Tuesday, July 6, 2010 Marian (Everest) Healy Vik, 92, of Longview passed away July 1, 2010, at the Hospice Care Center. She was born April 2, 1918, in Bemidji, Minn., to Ralph and Elsie (Walker) Everest. The family moved to Cathlamet when Marian was eight. She was raised there and graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1936. She spent her adult life living in Cathlamet and Longview. She worked for the Wahkiakum County Bank in Cathlamet and the Bon Marche in Longview. Other pursuits included spending a year as postmaster and general store manager in Larsen Bay, Alaska. Marian was active in the Longview Church of the Nazarene and later Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on Puget Island. She most recently was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Longview. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Arthur Vik at home; a son, Eugene (Karen) Healy of Puget Island; a daughter, Donna (Glenn) Palmer of Longview; two stepsons, Phillip (Ivy Lou) Vik of Puget Island and Marvin (Petra) Vik of Valderoye, Norway; a stepdaughter, Lizibeth (David) Whitney of Puget Island; 14 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Ralph Marshall Everest Jr. of Canandaigua, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her first husband, Leon Healy; an infant daughter, Georgia; her parents, Ralph and Elsie (Walker) Everest; a brother, George Everest; and a sister, Carol Pedersen Smith. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Puget Island. A reception will take place at the church following interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Marian Vik’s name to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 549 SR 409, Cathlamet, WA 98612. Arrangements are by Dowling Funeral Home, Cathlamet.
