Wahkiakum Eagle-October 2000 VARILA, Tynne Ansa Age 78, a 37 year resident of Naselle, died at her residence. She was the eldest child of Albert and Ida Leppanen Kerminen, and was born in Sakkola, Finland. She received her education in Finland and served in the Finnish Army during WWII as a telephone operator. She and Matti Verila were married June 24, 1945 in Kaustinen where they established their first home. On May 18, 1963 she moved with her family to Naselle where she resided. She enjoyed gardening, was a devoted salmon and steelhead fisherwoman, and enjoyed staying touch and traveling to Finland to visit family and friends. Her family will remember her as a wonderful wife and mother, blessed with a delightful sense of humor and strong will who had 'sisukas.' She is survived by her husband of 55 years; daughters, Maija Liisa Ross, Sirkka Wirkkala, and Kata Varila, all of Naselle and Leena Wirkkala of Milwaukie, Ore.; son, Jaakko Varila of Naselle; sisters, Kaija, Annika and Lempi Kerminen of Helsinki, Finland, Veikko Kerminen of Huittinene and Sulo Kerminen of Tampere, Finland; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother and a sister died earlier. Memorial services were Friday at Naselle Lutheran church with Pastors Tony Stoutenburg and Atso Eerikainen officiating. Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach, was in charge.
