Wahkiakum Eagle-September 1997 TWIET, Daniel Chester Age 86, of Longview, died at Hospice Care Center. He was born in Albert Lea, Minn., to Mathias and Olava (Berg) Twiet, and grew up in Minnesota, where he and Ellen Marie Dyrland were married. In 1955, the Twiets moved to Tacoma, where they lived for 22 years before moving to Burns, Ore. For several years they traveled extensively between Eastern Oregon and Needles, Calif., until moving to Cathlamet in 1994. More recently, he had lived in a Longview nursing home. During his working years, he was a registered auto service manager, mechanic and trouble shooter for Ford Motor Co., retiring after 40 years. He loved working on cars and truck motors. He loved to fish and travel. He was a lifetime member of the Automotive Machinists Union in Tacoma and had also been a member of the Tacoma Eagles. He comes from a long-lived family. His mother lived for 99 years and his grandmother in Norway lived for more than 100 years. His wife of 66 years, Ellen, survives him at home in Cathlamet. He also leaves a son, Donald, of Puget Island; and three grandsons. Dowling Funeral Home of Cathlamet was in charge.
