Wahkiakum County Eagle-November 1996 Winifred Catherine Torppa Age 89, long-time Naselle resident died in Long Beach. She was born in Hougton County, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Olga (Lustig) Aho. The family moved to Naselle in 1911. She was a 1927 graduate of Naselle High School where she was an outstanding basketball player. Winnie and Eino A. Torppa were married June 14, 1930 in South Bend and returned to live in Naselle. She was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She worked along side her husband in building several houses in the Naselle area and will be remembered for her excellent needlework and baking skills. She was a member of the Naselle Congregational church, the Martha Circle of the church and was a charter member of Naselle Grange. She is survived by a son, Charles Torppa of Naselle; daughter, Gloria Keithly of Bures, France; daughters and sons-in-law Lois and Lewis Byrd of Bellingham, Helen and Larry Josephson of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Ruth and LeRoy Miller of Ellensburg; 13 grandchildren; 3 step- grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969 and by brothers Wesley, Melvin and Leonard and sisters, Mamie Johnson and Effie and Mildred Aho. Funeral services were Sunday at the Naselle Congregational Church. Arrangements were by Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach.
