Wahkiakum County Eagle- Jan 1996 Harry P. Tipp Age 85, died at the Hospice Care Center. He was born in Lorimor, Iowa, to Henry and Minda (Kinney) Tipp. He married Ruth M. Munson in Vancouver on 25 Aug. 1928. In his early working years he was a truck driver, hauling rock for the Puget Island dike. In 1931 he went to work in Sandy, Ore., in a sawmill, and a short time later he moved to Sodamill, Ore., and started his own sawmill. He lived in several small towns in Oregon, and worked for Barger Lumber County in Mountaindale. He returned to Cathlamet to retire in 1978. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 701, and had belonged to the Elochoman Grange since 1980. Last August, the Tipps celebrated 67 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Ruth, at home, he leaves three daughters, Juanita Baker of Newberg, Ore., Harriett Powell of Anchorage, Alaska, and Loretta Nicholson of Lake Oswego, Ore.; four sisters, Zola Sanford of Burlington, Verna Bauer of Bremerton, Norma Ley and Betty Lee, both of Portland; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
