The Eagle-Cathlamet, Wahkiakum, WA September 27, 1945-Front Page Columbia Gives Up Thompson’s Body. The body of Bennie Thompson, who was drowned in Columbia river opposite Cathlamet on Sept. 15, was found on the beach near Pillar Rock, Wednesday by Oney Oja, a fisherman. The body was identified by papers in his clothing which say he was employed as a track laborer by S. P. & S. railroad company. Sheriff Brooks, Undertaker Ray Hatton and Acting Coroner R. L. Goodfellow brought the body to Cathlamet. It will be claimed by friends of the drowned man from Clifton, where he was a resident for several years.
