Wahkiakum Eagle-November 1997 TARABOCHIA, Ronald James Age 40, of Skamokawa, died when his commercial fishing boat capsized in the ocean off Westport. He was born in Longview, to Joseph B. and Olive C. (Goodell) Tarabochia. He was a lifelong area resident who graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1976. He fished commercially, starting at age 15, on the Columbia River and at Grays Harbor. For the past 20 years, he also fished at Bristol Bay, Alaska. This was his second winter crabbing off the Washington coast. He loved spending time with his children, especially swimming and picnicking in the summer. He always loved the water and boating, beachcombing, fishing, hunting and clam digging. He also enjoyed caring for wounded birds and wildlife. He liked to smoke meats and fish, sharing the food with others. He enjoyed doing mechanic work and helping people. He was restoring his property in Skamokawa. A member of the Chinook tribe, he was very proud of his Indian heritage. He attended St. Catherines Catholic Church in Cathlamet. He and Marilyn Forsythe were married at Montesano on November 17, 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Tina Tarabochia of Napavine; a son, Christopher Tarabochia of Napavine; his father, Joe Tarabochia of Skamokawa; his stepdaughter, Kira Forsythe of Lake Stevens; a stepson, David Frank of Bellingham; four sisters, Joanne Longtain of Cathlamet, Karen Hanigan of Kelso and Francy Sweet and Mary Gregg, both of Longview; six brothers, David of Cathlamet, Terry of Grays River, Tom of Kelso, Dan of Olympia and Joe, Jr. and Tim, both of Skamokawa; a goddaughter, Mandee Longtain of Cathlamet; and numerous nieces and nephews. His mother preceded him in death and his wife Marilyn, died in the same commercial fishing accident that claimed his life. A memorial Mass was celebrated Saturday at St. Catherines Catholic Church with Father David Gese officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
