The Wahkiakum County Eagle-April 17, 2008 Cathlamet, Washington David D. Tarabochia David Dominic Tarabochia, 56 years old, of Cathlamet, WA passed away on Friday, April, 11 2008 of natural causes. He was born January 5, 1952 in Astoria, OR to Joe B. Sr. and Olive (Gooddell) Tarabochia of Pillar Rock, WA. They moved to Skamokawa, WA in the summer of 1954 where he grew up on Pleasant Point Road. He loved the water and was always swimming and boating as a kid. David attended Skamokawa grade school and he played football, basketball and tennis at Wahkiakum High School, graduating in 1970. David was a very kind and well-liked person, he was intelligent, hard working and a good provider for his family. He was fun to be with and liked kidding around and most importantly, he always looked out for his younger brothers and sisters as they were growing up. David was a commercial fisherman. He fished on the Columbia River, the Willapa and Puget Sound. He went crabbing in the winters up and down the Washington coast. He fished on Bristol Bay in Alaska in the summers from age 14 with his dad and eventually he owned and fished his own boat. He later went tuna fishing from the Washington coast to Hawaii. He enjoyed the outdoors; he loved deer, elk and bird hunting, fishing and clam digging. He was an excellent cook. David was a member of the Catholic Church, Chinook Indian Nation, CRFPU (Columbia River Fisherman's Protective Union), AIFMA (Alaska Independent Fisherman's Marketing Association) and Salmon For All. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Todd Souvenir and grandchildren Shane and Peyton Souvenir. Also surviving are sisters Joanne Longtain, Francy Sweet, Karen Hanigan, and Mary Gregg; brothers Joe, Jr., Tim, Terry, Tom and Dan Tarabochia and his best friend of many years Herb Kehrli. Preceding him in death were his mother Olive Tarabochia in 1978, a brother and sister-in-law Ron and Marilyn Tarabochia in 1997 and special friend Myra Spears Mooney in 1984. A service will be held April 23 at St. Catherine Catholic Church at 1 p.m. with burial at Fern Hill Cemetery in Skamokawa. Arrangements by Dowling Funeral Home.
