Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-September 1995 SWAN, Martha Former Puget Island resident, died in Sun City, Ariz. She was born in Norway, the daughter of Jasper and Marta (Aspen) Mathisen. At age 13 she immigrated to the US, settling on Puget Island. She later lived in Astoria and then in Portland where she met and married Jacob Alsaker in 1931. The couple moved to the Long Beach Peninsula where he farmed cranberries for many years. Following his death in 1981, she married Frank Donald Swan of Long Beach. He died in 1987 and she then lived in Seattle for several years before moving to Sun City, Ariz. She is survived by a niece Ornetta Bergstrom of Ariz.; nephew Bruce Mathisen of Florida; sister-in-law Nellie Mathisen of Ariz; step-daughters, Joan Henry of Wash., and Donna Lynn Thompson of Colo. Besides her husbands, Mrs. Swan was preceded in death by a four-year old daughter, Harriet Jane and brother Oscar Mathisen. Funeral services were Sep. 6 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chinook, with Pastor Tony Stoutenburg officiating.
