Published in The Daily News on 10/18/2004. Longview, WA Elroy S. Svensen 1916-2004 Elroy S. Svensen, 88, of Cathlamet, died Oct. 17, 2004. He was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Puget Island, Wash., and was a lifelong resident of Puget Island. Mr. Svensen is survived by a son, Tom Svensen; a daughter, Margrith Glaser; a brother, "Sonny" Eugene Svensen; two sisters, Selma Olsen and Lorraine Bailey; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Puget Island. Viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Wahkiakum County Eagle October 21, 2004 Cathlamet, WA Elroy Severine Svensen 1916-2004 Elroy Severine Svensen, life time Puget Island resident, died October 17, 2004 at Longview. He was 88 years old and was the son of Sidney H. and Esther J. (Vog) Svensen. He was born October 8, 1916 on Puget Island. Mr. Svensen attended school on Puget Island and was married to Esther Skagen November 13, 1938. At age 13 he began a commercial fishing career which covered the Columbia River, Puget Sound, Willapa Bay and Cordova, Alaska, retiring in 1987. He also worked as a pile buck for 20 years. He was a member of the Columbia River Fisherman’s Union, the Cordova Aquatic Marketing Association, the Longview-Kelso Elks and Our Saviour’s Luthern Church. He will be remembered as a who enjoyed sport fishing, coffee time with friends and for his locally published recollections. Survivors include a son, Tom Svensen of Astoria; a daughter, Margrith Glaser of Astoria; a brother, "Sonny" Eugene Svensen of Camano Island; two sisters, Lorraine Bailey of Renton and Selma Olsen of Cathlamet; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ken Bjorge officiating. Entombment and committal were at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions suggestions include the Cathlamet First Aid Division and Community Home Health and Hospice of Longview. Arrangements were under the direction of Dowling Funeral Home.
