Evening Astorian Budget-May 31, 1940 Astoria, Oregon Puget Island Resident Dies Mrs. Bertha Serina Svensen, 70, a resident of Puget Island for the past 52 years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Vog last evening. Mrs. Svensen was born in San, Norway on October 6, 1869 and came to West Union, Iowa with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hadley Johnson, at the age of 2. When she was a young woman she came to St. Helens. On December 19, 1889 she married Sven Svensen in Portland and in 1888, they moved to Puget Island. She is survived by one son, Sydney Svensen; three daughters, Mrs. E.M. (Olga) Johnson and Mrs. John (Selma) Vog, all of Puget Island and Mrs. P.F. (Garda) Sherman of Portland; a sister Mrs. Johanna Borland of Iowa; and a brother Edward Johnson of Arlington, Iowa; also 5 grandchildren in Portland, and 5 on Puget Island. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 3 at 1:00 o'clock from the Lutheran Free church with Rev. O.P. Grambo officiating. Interment will be in the Westport cemetery.
