Wahkiakum County Eagle-November 1994 Sprague, Leora Antha Age 90, of Long Beach, died November 5, near Altoona. She was born November 9, 1902, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of James and Mary (Freeze) Dickey. The family moved to Lebam in 1907, where Mrs. Sprague received her schooling. She later worked as a cook’s helper in a logging camp. Mrs. Sprague moved to the Long Beach Peninsula in the late 1920’s and worked in the cranberry bogs. She later worked in the oyster industry for many years. She married Phillip Kirsch and they later divorced. In 1944, she married Jack Sprague. He preceded her in death in May 1993. Mrs. Sprague was a social person who was constantly on the go and enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, crocheting and traveling to Reno or Hawaii. An avid bowler, she bowled until she was well into her mid- 80’s. Mrs. Sprague also was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the Ocean Park Eagles. She is survived by three daughters, June Heckard of Long Beach, Mary Souvenir of Rosburg, and Arlene Hope of Seattle; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great- grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. Family and friends gathered Friday to celebrate her life at Penttila’s Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach. Penttila’s Chapel by the Sea was in charge.
