Wahkiakum Eagle-September 1995 SOUVENIR, Mary Verbena Age 71, of Pillar Rock, died in a Cathlamet nursing home. She was born in Lebam, Wash., to Phillip and Leora (Dickie) Kirsch. She was a track champion of her high school. After she and Henry C. Elliott were married, they moved to Dahlia (Pillar Rock) in 1941. She worked on the seining grounds in what at that time was a busy community. In 1955, her husband died. She married Joe 'Hooley' Souvenir in 1960. She hunted, gardened, canned fish, milked cows, made and mended nets, and took care of her family, including her large extended family. She enjoyed spending time with them. Survivors include her husband, Joe 'Hooley', at home; three sons, Henry Elliott of Cathlamet, Phillip Elliott of Enumclaw, and Brian Elliott of Cathlamet; two sisters, June Heckard of Long Beach and Arlene Hope of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Polly Wirkkala, and a brother, Richard Kirsch. Funeral services were Wednesday at Dowling Funeral Chapel. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
