Wahkiakum County Eagle-20 September 2007 Cathlamet, WA Carol I. Smith Carol Irene Smith of Cathlamet died on September 13, 2007. She was 91. She was born in Bemidji, Minn. on May 24, 1916 to Ralph Marshall and Elsie May (Walker) Everest. She came to Wahkiakum County in 1926 at the age of 10 and graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1934. She was married to Krist Pedersen who died in 1967. She then married Don Smith on December 31, 1971. She worked at a halfway house in Seattle for four years before moving back to Cathlamet in 1971. She and her husband Don worked as cooks for the Alaskan Logger's Association in and around Juneau, Alaska. She retired in 1981. She is survived by her sons: Frank Pedersen, Ralph Pedersen and Marshall Pedersen; daughter Kay Chamberlain; stepsons Lonnie Kubacki, Donald Smith, Jr., and Kenneth Smith; brother Marshall Everest; sister Marion Vik; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild, many step grand and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, a brother, George Everest and a son, David Pedersen. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 14 at the River of Life Assembly of God Church in Cathlamet at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Women's Ministries c/o Assembly of God Church, 45 Main Street, Cathlamet and Cathlamet First Aid Division, P.O.
