November 29, 2001 The Wahkiakum County Eagle Obituaries ORIS J. SMALLEY Lifelong Rosburg resident Oris James Smalley, 86, died November 20 at the Hospice Care center. He was born July 27, 1915 in Eden Valley to Frank and Mary (Olmsted) Smalley and he attended the Eden Valley school. On November 20, 1943, he married Vivian Saari in Cathlamet. They returned to the Smalley farm where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Smalley was a dairy farmer, gillnetted on Deep River, Logged with his brothers and retired as a boom boat operator for Brusco Tug on Deep River. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic. He enjoyed the outdoors, living in Eden Valley, cutting firewood, hunting, sturgeon fishing and clamming. He was dedicated to his family and enjoyed many friendships. He is survived by his wife of 58 years at home; a son Terry Smalley of Brownsmead, Ore.; two daughters, Trudy Torza of Elliott City, Md., and Lori Hamp of Rosburg; a sister Ruth Hartill of Hillsboro, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Private family graveside services were held at Eden Valley Cemetery. Arrangements were by Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach. Kari
