The Eagle-Thursday, April 5, 1945 Page 6 Cathlamet, Washington Memorial Held for Lt. Judd Simple A memorial was held at Hamilton Field, San Francisco, California, for Lt. Judd Simple, who was lost in action August 21, 1945*, in the South Pacific when his plane was shot down. The services were held March 24, with relatives and friends attending. Mrs. Simple, his wife, was present and received his medal for bravery in action. Mrs. Simple is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lund. Mrs. Lund, who is visiting her daughters in San Francisco, also attended the memorial. Judd C. Sempel Overseas Burial-Non Recoverable 1921-25 August 1944 *The newspaper was printed April 5, 1945 but the date he was to have died is printed in the newspaper as August 21, 1945 which is 4 months after the newspaper was printed. Further research did not find a Judd Simple but did find a Judd Sempel who was declared Killed in Action August 25, 1944. The William Lund daughter is Dorothy Bertine according to the AJHS WWII Jewish Servicemen Cards, 1942-1947 that Dorothy filled out after his death.
