Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-August 1995 SCHRODER, Fred Bernard Age 57, of Cathlamet, died in Longview, of a sudden illness. He was born in Luck, Wis., the son of Fred and Clara (Ask) Schroder. He graduated from high school there and married Mary Ellen Vilstrup of Feb. 14, 1958. He and his wife owned the Best of Luck Restaurant in Luck, Wis., for five years. He also worked as a builder and logger before moving to Enumclaw, Wash., in 1966. In 1969, the couple moved to Cathlamet, where he continued contracting. He built many homes in the area over the years. He also enjoyed farming and ranching. In 1976, he built the Ranch House Drive-In in Cathlamet, which he and his wife operated for many years. Both were 4-H leaders for several years. He enjoyed golfing, canoeing, sailing, polka music and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mary, at home; three daughters, Sharon Deaton and Sandy Wirkkala of Cathlamet and Barbie Bain of Longview; a son, Paul Schroder, of Weiser, Ida.; two sisters, Ardyce Gehrke of Seely Lake, Mont., and Clarice Threlkeld of Bellevue, Wash.; two brothers, John of Minong, Wis., and Hilton of Durango, Colo; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Puget Island. Dowling Funeral Home in charge.
