Wahkiakum Eagle-March 1996 Manuel H. "Slim" Schrager Former resident, age 71, of Warrenton, Ore., died in Nairobi, Kenya, Africa, while traveling with an American forest tour. He was born in New York City. He and Ruth Terhune were married July 10, 1946, in Jefferson, Ore. He served in the Pacific theater with the Navy during WWII. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1951 and began working for Crown Zellerbach Corp's Northwest Timber Division at Seaside, Ore., that same year. He lived in Naselle from 1960 to 1962, and in Cathlamet from 1962 to 1968. During his years with the company, he served as manager of all the CZ tree farms and logging camps on the west side of the Cascades in Oregon and Washington. After 31 1/2 years with CZ, he retired as the resident manager of the NW Oregon Managed Forest. For the past 12 years he has been a logging and forestry consultant. He loved his family, traveling and trees. He was very involved in community volunteer activities in Seaside and Astoria. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, at home; a daughter, Anne Hill of Longview; three sons, Chris of Las Vegas, Nev., Karl of Bremerton and Paul of Lake Oswego, Ore.; a sister in New York; and several grandchildren. Celebration of life service was held at Seaside United Methodist Church. Burial place unknown 22 Jan 1925-19 Mar 1996 (As transcribed by the Wahkiakum County Historical Society Museum)
