Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-May 1995 ROBERTS-PATTERSON, Albert Lee Age ca. 85, died in Trail, B. C. A journey that started in a North Dakota sod house ended at Skamokawa cemetery, when Patricia Partridge of Calgary, Alta., interred her father's ashes next to the grave of his father Tyra Roberts. Albert Lee Roberts was born Oct 21, 1896, in North Dakota, to Tyra and Katherine Kinsfather Roberts. The family left their sod house and came west by horse and buggy over the railroad. They traveled on the rails for miles as there was no other road. They arrived in Home Valley, Wash. in 1902. They bought the Amos Patterson ranch in Skamokawa East Valley in 1905. Here Tyra Roberts died within a week leaving his wife and five children. Albert Patterson, the oldest, was 10 and went to Canada where he became a citizen in 1917. His mother had married John Patterson, who died in 1920 and Albert returned to help his mother and sisters and brothers. He was a good friend of Paul Starkey. Saturday Albert Patterson's final wish was fulfilled when his daughter interred his ashes next to his father's grave in Skamokawa.
